<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 18</hi>) bodhisatva uvāca: avaśyam evāvayor ante viyogena bhavitavyaṃ. eṣa hi lokasvabhāvaḥ. tvaṃ ca pravarānnapānaśa<hi rend="bold">ya</hi>nāsana<hi rend="bold">saṃ</hi>vasano<hi rend="bold">pa</hi>citā paramasukumāraśarīrā. tapovane tṛṇaparṇopacitāyāṃ bhūmyāṃ svaptavyaṃ, mūlapuṣpaphalāni cāhāro darbhopalakuśakaṇṭakacitāyāṃ mahyāṃ vicaritavyaṃ abhīkṣṇaṃ copavāsa upavasitavyaḥ, sarvajanasyātmā darśayitavyaḥ, sarvaprayatnenātithayaḥ pūjayitavyās. tatrāpi ca mayā avaśyaṃ yathāśaktyā dānaṃ deyaṃ. tatra bhavatyā na kathaṃcid anutāpaḥ karaṇīyas ta<hi rend="bold">t</hi> punar api tāvat saṃpradhāryatām iti.
mādrī kathayaty āryaputra yathāśaktyāham āryaputrasya anuvartiṣyāmīti.
bodhisatvaḥ kathayati yady evaṃ smartavyā te iyaṃ pratijñeti.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 19</hi>) tato bodhisatvaḥ pitaram abhigamya mūrdhnā praṇipatyovāca

(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 20</hi>) tataḥ putraduhitṛkalatrasahitaḥ śokotkaṇṭhaiḥ paurajānapadaśatasahasrair anugamyamāno ratham adhiruhya tasmān nagaravarān nirjagāma.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 21</hi>) atha kaścit puruṣas taṃ ruditaparidevitaśabdaṃ śrutvā mahājanakāyaṃ ca nagaradvāreṇa nirgacchantaṃ dṛṣṭvānyatamaṃ puruṣam uvāca: bhoḥ puruṣa kiṃkṛto 'yaṃ mahājanakāyasya rudanaśabda iti. sa uvāca: kiṃ bhavān na jānīte. yad asmad-
  deśāt svakān nṛpatinā svasutaḥ sudaṃṣṭro
  nirvāsyate sthiradhṛtir nirataḥ pradāne /
  sa prasthito vanam apetya saputradāraḥ

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 22</hi>) tato viśvantaro bodhisatvas tasmān nagaravarān nirgatān paurān yathānyāyam abhigamyovāca: nivartantu nivartantu bhavantaḥ. suciram api hi priyasaṃprayogo bhūtvāvaśyam evānte viyogāvasāno bhaviṣyati. vāsavṛkṣādhvapratiśrayabhūto 'pi bandhujanaviyogo 'vaśyabhāvī priyaviprayogaḥ. kutaḥ

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 23</hi>) atha triṃśadyojanātikrāntaṃ bodhisatvam avekṣyānyatamo brāhmaṇo 'bhigamyovāca: bhoḥ kṣatriyakumāra itas triṃśanmātrair yojanair adhiṣṭhānaṃ yato 'haṃ bhavato guṇaśravaṇād āgata iti. tad arhasi bhavān anena rathavareṇa me saphalaṃ śramaṃ kartum iti.

  maharṣibhi<hi rend="bold">ḥ</hi> ṣaḍbhir anupravartito nirāsravo dharmamayo mah<hi rend="bold">ā</hi>rathaḥ //</p>

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 25</hi>) tato bodhisatva<hi rend="bold">ḥ</hi> pramuditahṛdayas tam api rathavaraṃ brāhmaṇāya datvā kṛṣṇājināṃ kumārī<hi rend="bold">ṃ</hi> skandhe āropya mādrī ca jālinaṃ kumāraṃ tapovanābhimukhau saṃprasthitau. anupūrveṇa tapovanam anuprāptau. tato viśvantaro bodhisatvas tasmiṃ tapovane svahṛdayapraritoṣakaraṃ vratam āsthāya vijahāra.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 26</hi>) tena khalu samayena anyatamasmiṃ karvaṭake brāhmaṇaḥ prativasati sma. tena sadṛśāt kulāt kalatram ānītaṃ. sa tayā sārdhaṃ krīḍati ramati paricārayati. tasya krīḍato ramamāṇasya paricārayataḥ <hi rend="bold">pu</hi>tro jāta aṣṭādaśabhir apalakṣaṇaiḥ samanvāgataḥ. sa yadā jujjavayati, tasya jujjuko jujjuka iti saṃjñā saṃvṛttā.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 27</hi>) anyata<hi rend="bold">masmiṃ</hi> api karvaṭake brāhmaṇaḥ prativasati caturveda<hi rend="bold">jña</hi>s. tena sadṛśāt kulāt kalatram ānītaṃ. sa tayā sā<hi rend="bold">rdhaṃ</hi> krīḍati ramati paricārayati. tasya krīḍato ramamāṇasya paricārayato duhitā jātā abhirūpā darśanīyā prāsādikā caturdināvadhinā mahatī saṃvṛttā. tena brāhmaṇena pratijñā kṛtā: na mayā kasyacid iyaṃ duhitā rūpeṇa vā kulena vā dhanena vā śilpena vā dātavyāpi tu yo mamāntikāc caturo vedān adhigamiṣyati, tasya mayeyaṃ dātavyā.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 28</hi>) atha jujjuko mantrārthī mantragaveṣī tasya gṛham upasaṃkrāntaḥ. sa tena brāhmaṇenābhihito: bho māṇava ku<hi rend="bold">ta</hi>s tvaṃ kiṃ vā prārthayasi
sa kathayatīcchāmy aham upādhyāyasya pādaśuśruṣāṃ kartuṃ.
sa kathayati: śobhanam evaṃ kuruṣva māṇava. karaṇīyam etad brāhmaṇānāṃ.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 29</hi>) sa tasyāntike vedādhyayanaṃ kartum ārabdhaḥ. sa medhāvī jātīyaḥ. tena alpīyasā kālena <hi rend="bold">ca</hi>tvāro vedā adhītāḥ
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 30</hi>) sa brāhmaṇaḥ saṃlakṣayati: mayā pratijñā kṛtā na mayā kasyacid iyaṃ duhitā rūpeṇa vā kulena vā dhanena vā śilpena vā dātavyā. api tu yo mamāntikāc caturo vedān adhigamiṣyati tasya mayeyaṃ dātavyā. anena ca māṇavakena mamāntikāc caturo vedān adhigatā. ayaṃ ca aṣṭādaśabhir apalakṣaṇaiḥ samanvāgataḥ. yady etāṃ dārikāṃ sa pratigṛhṇīyāc chobhanaṃ syāt.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 31</hi>) tasya tenoktaṃ: māṇava mayā pratijñā kṛtā na mayā kasyacid iyaṃ duhitā rūpe<hi rend="bold">ṇa vā kule</hi>na vā dhanena vā śilpena vā dātavyā, api tu yo mamāntikāc caturo vedān adhigamiṣyati tasya mayedaṃ dātavyā. tvayā ca mamāntikāc caturo vedā adhigatāḥ. tavāhaṃ duhitā bhāryārtham anuprayacchāmi.
sa kathayati: svasti pratigṛhītā bhavatu.
tasya tena maha<hi rend="bold">tā</hi> śrīsamudayena vivāhaḥ kāritaḥ kṛtvā kathayati: māṇa<hi rend="bold">va</hi> patnīm ādāya svagṛhaṃ gaccha.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 32</hi>) sa tāṃ patnīm ādāya svagṛhaṃ gataḥ. sa tayā ucyate: āryaputra sukumārā nāhaṃ śaknomi karma kartuṃ. mama upasthāyakam anuprayaccheti.
sa kathayati: bhadre kuto mama upasthāyakaḥ.
sā kathayaty āryaputra viśvapuryāṃ viśvāmitro nāma rājā. tasya putro viśvantaro nāma. sa yat kiṃcit yācyate tat sarvaṃ dadāti. tasya <hi rend="bold">sa</hi>kāśān mama upasthāyakaṃ mṛgaya.
sa kathayati: bhadre yad<hi rend="bold">y</hi> evaṃ sahitaṃ gacchāvaḥ.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 33</hi>) sa tayā sārdhaṃ viśvapuriṃ gatvā pṛcchati: kutra viśvantarakumāras.
te kathayanti: tapovanaṃ saṃśritaḥ.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 34</hi>) atha jujjukaḥ patnyā sārdhaṃ tapovanaṃ gata<hi rend="bold">ḥ</hi>.

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 44</hi>) tasmiṃś ca samaye mādrī mūlaphalāny ādāyāśramapadābhimukhī saṃprasthitā. tena ca mahatā bhūmikaṃpena tvaritatvaritam evāśramapadaṃ saṃpratasthe. tatrānyatamā devatā siṃharūpadhāriṇī bhūtva mārgam avarudhyamānāvasthitā mā haiva madrī bodhisattvasya sarvasatvanirmokṣaṇakṛtodyogasya dānapāramitāyā<hi rend="bold">ṃ</hi> vighnam utpādayiṣyatīti.

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 49</hi>) tato mādrī tābhyāṃ bāladārakābhyāṃ ye vṛkṣā ropitakāḥ pālitakāś ca tān kisalayasaṃchannāṇ dṛṣṭvā sasaṃbhramā pariṣvajyovāca

  yathā mūḍhe loke kumatimatiparyākulamatau
  vibho bhogāsakte sutahṛdayapāś<hi rend="bold">ā</hi>ni sahite /
  tvam eko niḥsaṃgas tyajasi tanayāṃ snehajanakāṃ
  dhruvaṃ kṣemaṃ śāntaṃ vimalam araja<hi rend="bold">ṃ</hi> prāpsyasi padam //</p>

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 55</hi>) tad evaṃ protsāhya bodhisatva<hi rend="bold">ṃ</hi> śakro devendraś cintayāmāsa: eko 'yam upasthāyakarahitaḥ khedam āpatsyate. yanv aham apy asmāt prāthayeyam iti. tato bodhisatvasakāśād apakramya brāhmaṇaveṣam āsthāya punar bodhisatvam uvāca

  aham iha bhuvi mādri nānuśocyaḥ parimṛgayaṃ padam akṣayaṃ viśokam /
  tam imam anusara dvijaṃ viśokā mṛga<hi rend="bold">śa</hi>raṇaṃ tv a<hi rend="bold">ha</hi>m āśrame 'bhyupaimi //</p>

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 58</hi>) <hi rend="bold">iti</hi> viditvā hṛṣṭatuṣṭapramuditamanāś cintayāmāsa
  idam asmiṃ vane dānaṃ paścimaṃ me bhaviṣyati
  mādrīpriyāṃ parityajya bhaviṣyāmy aparigraha<hi rend="bold">ḥ</hi> //</p>

<p>iti viditvā mādrī<hi rend="bold">ṃ</hi> ca pā<hi rend="bold">ṇinā</hi> gṛhītvā taṃ brāhmaṇam uvāca

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 60</hi>) tato mādrī bāṣpoparudhyamānā gadgadakaṇṭhī brāhmaṇavaśam āgatā patiputraduhitṛvirahitā idam abhravīt

  ahaṃ mādrīm imāṃ tubhyaṃ dadāmi paricārikām /
  na ca te kasyacid deyā nyāsadroho <hi rend="bold">hi</hi> garhitaḥ //</p>

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 63</hi>) tataḥ śakro devendras taṃ bāladārakaparigṛhītāraṃ brāhmaṇaṃ tathā vyāmohayāmāsa yathānyanagaraśaṃkayā tad eva nagaram upagamya tau bāladārakau vikrītum ārabdho yāvad amātyair dṛṣṭvā rājño niveditaṃ

  nāryaś cakruḥ kro<hi rend="bold">śa</hi>m antaḥpurasthāḥ paurā rājñaḥ kṣipram eyuḥ samīpam //</p>

<p>yāvad anyatamenāmātyena rājñaḥ sakāśam upanītau
  putrau nirīkṣya sa nṛpo 'bhi<hi rend="bold">mukhopanītau</hi>
  <hi rend="bold">kṣīṇasvarau kṛśatanū maladigdhagātrau /
  siṃhāsanāt</hi> kṣititale sahasā papātaḥ
  paurā vicukruśur amātyagaṇā<hi rend="bold">ḥ</hi> striyaś ca //</p>

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 65</hi>) tato rā<hi rend="bold">jā</hi> amātyān āmantrayate<hi rend="bold">
  vane 'pi vasato dāneṣv abhirataṃ manaḥ /
  tam ihānayata kṣipraṃ patnyā sārdhaṃ sulocanam //</hi>
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 66</hi>) <hi rend="bold">tataḥ śakro devendro</hi> bodhisatvam abhinamasyamānaḥ svabhavanam upajagāma.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 67</hi>) śakreṇa ca rājani viśvāmi<hi rend="bold">tre abhyatīte brāhmaṇāmātyapaurajānapadaiḥ sārdhaṃ tad āśramapadaṃ gatvā bodhisatvaṃ yācitvā svapuram ānīya rājye pratiṣṭhāpitavān</hi>.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 68</hi>) <hi rend="bold">tato</hi> viśvantaro rājā sarva<hi rend="bold">ṃ</hi>dado babh<hi rend="bold">ū</hi>va. sa śraṃanabrāhmaṇavanī<hi rend="bold">pakasuhṛtsambandhibāndhavānujīvijaneṣu anekaprakārāṇi dānāni datvā puṇyāni kṛtvā gāthāṃ bhāṣate
  bodhiṃ prārthayamānena dānaṃ deyaṃ vi</hi>śāradaḥ /
  kṣatriye brāhmaṇe vaiśye śūdre caṇḍālapukkase //</p>

<p>  <hi rend="bold">hiraṇyaṃ ca suvarṇaṃ ca gavāśvamaṇikuṇḍalam //</hi></p>

<p><hi rend="bold">  dadyāt saṃpannaśīlebhyo dāsakarmakaraṃ tathā //</hi></p>

<p><hi rend="bold">  sutadāraparityāgaṃ kṛtvā muktena cetasā /
  prāpnuvanti narāḥ śuddhim a</hi>smiṃ loke paratra ceti //</p>

<p>(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 69</hi>) yadā viśvāmitreṇa rājñā viśvantar<hi rend="bold">animittaṃ jujjukāya brāhmaṇāya prabhūtaṃ dhanaṃ dattaṃ tadāsau vistīrṇavibhavo jātaḥ. tasya suhṛtsambandhibāndhavā mitrāṇi cāgamya kathayanti:</hi> yā kāci<hi rend="bold">t</hi> tava śrīsaubhāgyasaṃpat sarvāsau viśvantarakumāram āgamyeti. sa kathayat<hi rend="bold">i: kiṃ mama viśvantareṇa kṛtam uttamavarṇaprasūto 'haṃ, dakṣiṇīyo lokasya; yena mama</hi> bhogā upanayanti.
(<hi rend="bold">Viśv 70</hi>) bhagavān āha: kiṃ manyadhve bhikṣavo yo 'sau viśvantaro nāma rājakumāra aham eva sa tena kālena tena samayena. yo 'sau jujjuko brāhmaṇa eṣa evāsau devadattas tena kālena tena samayena. tadāpy eṣa akṛtajñaḥ akṛtavedī. etarhy apy eṣa akṛtajña akṛtavedī. tasmāt tarhi bhikṣavaḥ evaṃ śikṣitavyaṃ yat kṛtajñā bhaviṣyāmaḥ kṛtavedinaḥ svalpam api kṛtaṃ na nāśayiṣyāmaḥ, prāg eva prabhūtaṃ. ity evaṃ vo bhikṣavaḥ śikṣitavyam.
