yad ekāṣṭakāyām annaṃ kriyate so 'ṣṭakāhoma iti vivāhaṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ udagayana āpūryamāṇapakṣe puṇye nakṣatre yugmān brāhmaṇān varān prahiṇoti pra su gmantā dhiyasānasya sakṣaṇi varebhir varān abhi ṣu prasīdata asmākam indra ubhayaṃ jujoṣati yat saumyasyāndhaso bubodhati iti yato 'numantrayate anṛkṣarā ṛjavaḥ santu panthā yebhiḥ sakhāyo yanti no vareyam sam aryamā sam bhago no ninīyāt saṃ jāspatyaṃ suyamam astu devāḥ iti atha yadi dakṣiṇābhiḥ saha dattā syān nātra varān prahiṇuyāt tāṃ pratigṛhṇīyāt prajāpatistriyāṃ yaśaḥ ity etābhiḥ ṣaḍbhir anucchandasam sarve māsā vivāhasya śucitapastapasyavarjam ity eke rohiṇī mṛgaśīrṣam uttare phalgunī svātīti vivāhasya nakṣatrāṇi punarvasū tiṣyo hastaḥ śroṇā revatīty anyeṣāṃ bhūtikarmaṇām yāni cānyāni puṇyoktāni nakṣatrāṇi teṣu pūrvedyur evarddhipūrteṣu yugmān brāhmaṇān bhojayet pradakṣiṇam upacāraḥ puṣpaphalākṣatamiśrair yavais tilārtham upalipya dadhy odanaṃ saṃprakīrya dakṣiṇaṃ jānuṃ bhūmau nidhāya savyam uddhṛtya iḍā devahūḥ iti japitvā nāndīmukhāḥ pitaraḥ priyantām iti vācayitvā adya vivāhaḥ iti brāhmaṇān annena pariviṣya puṇyāhaṃ svasti ṛddhim ity oṅkārapūrvaṃ tristrir ekaikām āśiṣo vācayitvā snāto 'hatavāso gandhānuliptaḥ sragvī bhuktavān pratodapāṇir apadātir gatvā vadhūjñātibhir atithivad arcitaḥ snātām ahatavāsasāṃ gandhānuliptāṃ sragviṇīṃ bhuktavatīm iṣuhastāṃ dattāṃ vadhūṃ samīkṣate abhrātṛghnīṃ varuṇāpatighnīṃ bṛhaspate indrāputraghnīṃ lakṣmyaṃ tām asyai savitas suva iti tayekṣyamāṇo japati aghoracakṣur apatighny edhi śivā patibhyaḥ sumanāḥ suvarcāḥ jīvasūr devakāmā syonā śaṃ no bhava dvipade śaṃ catuṣpade iti athainām antareṇa bhrumukhe darbheṇa saṃmārṣṭi idam ahaṃ yā tvayi patighny alakṣmis tāṃ nirdiśāmi iti darbhaṃ nirasyāpa upaspṛśyāthaināṃ dakṣiṇe haste gṛhṇāti mitro 'si iti athaināṃ devayajanam udānayati ekam iṣe viṣṇus tvā 'nvetu dve ūrje viṣṇus tvā 'nvetu trīṇi vratāya viṣṇus tvā 'nvetu catvāri māyobhavāya viṣṇus tvā 'nvetu pañca paśubhyo viṣṇus tvā 'nvetu ṣaḍrāyaspoṣāya viṣṇus tvā 'nvetu saptabhyo hotrābhyo viṣṇus tvā 'nvetu iti saptamaṃ padam upasaṃgṛhya japati sakhāyaḥ saptapadā abhūma sakhyaṃ te gameyaṃ sakhyāt te mā yoṣaṃ sakhyān me mā yoṣṭhāḥ iti āvedyārghyaṃ kuryāt madhye 'gārasyodīcīnapratiṣevaṇā erakā upastṛṇāti tāsv ahatāni bahuguṇāny uttaradaśāni vāsāṃsy āstīrya teṣvṛtvijaḥ prāṅmukhā upaviśanti uttarapūrve deśe 'gārasya prākkūlān darbhān saṃstīrya teṣv arghyadravyāṇi saṃsādayati yāvanta ṛtvijas tāvanti kāṃsyāni pātrāṇi sāpidhānāni tāvataḥ kūrcān dvāvanyau parigrahaṇīyau kūrcau dadhi madhu ghṛtam āpaḥ payo vastrayugāni kuṇḍalayugāni yasyai goḥ payaś camasaḥ srag alaṃkaraṇīyaṃ ceti pavitre kṛtvā tūṣṇīṃ saṃskṛtābhir adbhir uttānāni pātrāṇi kṛtvā prokṣya kūrce kāṃsyaṃ nidhāya tiraḥpavitraṃ madhvānayati dadhi payo vā dvitīyaṃ sa dvivṛt ghṛtaṃ tṛtīyaṃ sa trivṛt yad dvitīyaṃ taccaturthaṃ sa caturvṛt āpaḥ pañcamīḥ sa pāṅktaḥ varṣīyasā tejomayenāpidhāya nānāpuruṣā arghyadravyāṇyādadate anvag anusaṃvrajatāḥ kūrcaḥ iti kūrcaṃ prāha tat sukūrcaḥ itītaraḥ pratigṛhṇāti taṃ pradakṣiṇaṃ paryasyodagāvṛtta upaviśati purastād vainaṃ pratyañcam upohate rāṣṭrabhṛd asyācāryāsandī mā tvad yoṣam iti athāsmā udapātram ādāya kūrcābhyāṃ parigṛhya pādyā āpa iti prāha tā abhimantrayate āpaḥ pādāvanejanīr dviṣantaṃ nāśayantu me asmin kule brahmavarcasy asāni iti dakṣiṇaṃ pādaṃ pūrvaṃ brāhmaṇāya prasārayati svayaṃ śūdrāya strī prakṣālayati pumān abhiṣiñcati viparītam ity eke niyamāt patnīyajamānau jaṅghre dhāvayataḥ avanektuḥ pāṇī saṃmṛśati mayi maho mayi bhago mayi bhargo mayi yaśaḥ iti athāpa upaspṛśya mayīndriyaṃ vīryam ity uraḥpratyātmānaṃ pratyabhimṛśate apo vrīhibhir yavair vā samudāyutya tathaiva kūrcābhyāṃ parigṛhyārhaṇīyā āpa iti prāha tā abhimantrayate āma āgād varcasā yaśasā saṃsṛja payasā tejasā ca taṃ mā priyaṃ prajānāṃ kurv adhipatiṃ paśūnām iti ekadeśam añjalāvānīyamānam anumantrayate virājo 'si virājo doham aśīya mama padyāya virāja iti atiśiṣṭāḥ parācīrninīyamānā anumantrayate samudraṃ vaḥ prahiṇomyakṣitāḥ svāṃ yonim api gacchata acchidraḥ prajayā bhūyāsaṃ mā parāseci matpayaḥ iti atha tathaiva kūrcābhyāṃ parigṛhyopastaraṇīyā āpa iti prāha tāḥ pibati amṛtopastaraṇam asi iti trir ācamet triḥ parimṛjet dvir ity eke ācāntāyāpāvṛttāya tathaiva kūrcābhyāṃ parigṛhyārghya iti prāha madhuparka iti vā madhuparkaṃ proktam anumantrayate trayyai vidyāyai yaśo 'si yaśaso yaśo 'si brahmaṇo dīptir asi taṃ mā priyaṃ prajānāṃ kurvadhipatiṃ paśūnām iti tam ubhābhyāṃ hastābhyāṃ pratigṛhṇāti devasya tvā savituḥ prasave 'śvinor bāhubhyāṃ pūṣṇo hastābhyāṃ pratigṛhṇāmi iti tasmiṃścit kiṃcid āpatitaṃ syāt tad aṅguṣṭhena ca mahānāmnyā copasaṃgṛhyemāṃ diśaṃ nirasyati neṣṭāv ṛddhiṃ kṛntāmi yā te ghorā tanūḥ tayā tam āviśa yo 'smān dveṣṭi yaṃ ca vayaṃ dviṣmaḥ iti athāpa upaspṛśya sarvābhir aṅgulībhiḥ samudāyutya prāśnāti yan madhuno madhavyaṃ paramamannādyaṃ vīryam tenāha madhuno madhavyena parameṇānnādyena vīryeṇa paramo 'nnādo madhavyo 'sāni iti triḥ prāśya trir anupibeccheṣaṃ ca kuryāt ya ātmanaḥ śreyāṃsam icchet tasmai śeṣaṃ dadyād iti ācāntāyāpāvṛttāya tathaiva kūrcābhyāṃ parigṛhyāpidhānīyā āpa iti prāha tāḥ pibati amṛtāpidhānam asi iti trir ācāmet triḥ parimṛjet dvir ity eke ācāntāyāpāvṛttāya gaur iti gāṃ prāha tām anumantrayate gaur asyapahatapāpmāpa pāpmānaṃ nuda mama cāmuṣya ca ity upavettur nāma gṛhṇāti nānā mahartvigbhyo gāḥ prāha ekāṃ hotṛkebhyaḥ sarvebhyo vaikām avibhavatvāt yaḥ prāha tasmā upākaroty ekadeśaṃ vapāyai juhoti agniḥ prathamaḥ prāśnātu sa hi veda yathā haviḥ śivā asmabhyam opadhīḥ kṛṇotu viśvacarṣaṇiḥ iti ekadeśam upaharati tat prāśnāti agniḥ prathamaḥ prāśnātu sa hi veda yathā haviḥ ariṣṭam asmākaṃ kṛṇotv asau brāhmaṇo brāhmaṇeṣu iti atha yad utsrakṣyan bhavati tām anumantrayate gaur dhenubhavyā mātā rudrāṇāṃ duhitā vasūnāṃ svasādityānām amṛtasya nābhiḥ pra ṇu vocaṃ cikituṣe janāya mā gām anāgām aditiṃ vadhiṣṭa pibatūdakaṃ tṛṇānyatta om utsṛjata iti tasyām utsṛṣṭāyāṃ meṣamajaṃ vālabhate āraṇyena vā māṃsena na tvevāmāṃso 'rghyaḥ syāt aśaktau piṣṭānnaṃ saṃsidhyet siddhe bhūtam iti prāha tat subhūtam iti itaraḥ pratyāha tad abhimantrayate bhūtaṃ subhūtaṃ sā virāṭ tan mā kṣāyi tan me 'śīya tan ma ūrjaṃ vā oṃ kalpayata iti caturo nānāgotrān brāhmaṇān bhojayatety eva brūyāt teṣu bhuktavatsvannamasmā upaharati tat prāśnāti virāḍasi virāḍannaṃ virāḍ virājo mayi dhehi iti bhuktavadbhyo vastrayugāni kuṇḍalayugāni yasyai goḥ payaś camasaḥ srag alaṃkaraṇīyam iti ca dadyāt ekadhanaṃ paṣṭhauhīṃ damyāv ity eke prāṅmadhuparkād alaṃkaraṇam eke samāmananti mahayed ṛtvijam ācāryaṃ cātmānaṃ vā eṣa mahayati yaḥ samṛtvijam ācāryaṃ ca mahayaty evam evaṃvratā vā ātyantikāḥ syuḥ patito 'nanūcāna iti nimittāni varaṇe 'gnyādheyaprabhṛtiṣu caiṣāmṛtvijaṃ smaret tathaite arghyā ṛtvik śvaśuraḥ pitṛvyo mātula ācāryo rājā vā snātakaḥ priyo varo 'tithir iti saṃvatsaraparyāgatebhya etebhya evaṃ kuryāt vivāhe varāya athartvigbhyaḥ karmaṇi karmaṇi dadāti atha śucau same deśe agnyāyatanadeśaṃ śakalena triḥ prācīnam ullikhet trir udīcīnam athādbhir abhyukṣya śakalaṃ nirasyāpa upaspṛśya yājñikāt kāṣṭhād agniṃ mathitvā śrotriyāgārād vāhṛtya vyāhṛtibhir nirupyopasamādhāyopatiṣṭhate juṣṭo damūnā atithiduroṇa imaṃ no yajñam upayāhi vidvān viśvā agne 'bhiyujo vihatya śatrūyatām ābharā bhojanāni iti athainaṃ pradakṣiṇamagniṃ parisamūhya paryṛkṣya paristīrya prāgagrairdarbhair agniṃ paristṛṇāti api vodagagrāḥ paścāc ca purastāc ca bhavanti dakṣiṇān uttarān uttarān adharān yadi prāgudagagrāḥ uttareṇāgniṃ prāgagrān darbhān saṃstīrya teṣu dvandvaṃ nyañci pātrāṇi saṃsādayati devasaṃyuktāny ekaikaśaḥ pitṛsaṃyuktāni sakṛd eva manuṣyasaṃyuktāni yat saha sarvāṇi mānuṣāṇi ity etasmād brāhmaṇāt pavitre kṛtvā tūṣṇīṃ saṃskṛtābhir adbhir uttānāni pātrāṇi kṛtvā prokṣya visrasyedhmaṃ tris sarvābhiḥ prokṣati darbheṣu dakṣiṇato brāhmaṇa upaviśati utarata udapātram atha tiraḥpavitramājyasthālyām ājyaṃ nirupyodīco 'ṅgārānnirūhya vyantān kṛtvā teṣv adhiśrityābhidyotanenābhidyotya dve darbhāgre pracchidya prakṣālya pratyasya punar abhidyotya triḥ paryagnikṛtvā vartma kurvann udagudvāsya pratyūhyāṅgārān barhir āstīrya athainad udīcīnāgrābhyāṃ pavitrābhyāṃ punar āhāraṃ trir utpūya visrasya pavitre 'dbhiḥ saṃspṛśyāgnāv anupraharati atha darvīṃ niṣṭapya darbhaiḥ saṃmṛjyādbhiḥ saṃspṛśya punar niṣṭapya prokṣya nidhāya darbhān adbhiḥ saṃspṛśyāgnāv anupraharati atha śamyāḥ paridhāti khādirī darvī tejaskāmasyaudumbaryannādyakāmasya pālāśī brahmavarcasakāmasya iti atha haikeṣāṃ vijñāyate nirṛtigṛhitā vai darvī yad darvyā juhuyān nirṛtyā 'sya yajñaṃ grāhayet tasmāt sruveṇaiva hotavyam iti pālāśena sruveṇety ātreyaḥ khādireṇety āṅgirasaḥ tāmrāyasenety ātharvaṇaḥ kārṣṇāyasenābhicarann iti sārvatrikam anyo vāsyaitāvat kṛtvāgamanaṃ kāṅkṣet apareṇāgnim udīcīnapratiṣevaṇām erakāṃ sādhivāsām āstīrya tasyāṃ prāñcāv upaviśata uttarataḥ patir dakṣiṇā patnī athānvārabdhāyāṃ pradakṣiṇam agniṃ pariṣiñcati adite 'numanyasva iti dakṣiṇataḥ prācīnam anumate 'numanyasva iti paścād udīcīnam sarasvate 'numanyasva ity uttarataḥ prācīnam deva savitaḥ prasuva iti samantaṃ pradakṣiṇaṃ samantam eva vā tūṣṇīm athedhmam abhyajya pari samidhaṃ śinaṣṭi svāhākāreṇābhyādhāyāghārāv āghārayati prajāpataye svāhā iti manasottare paridhisandhau saṃspṛśyākṣṇayā santatam indrāya svāhā ity upāṃśu dakṣiṇe paridhisandhau saṃspṛśyākṣṇayā santatam athājyabhāgau juhoti agnaye svāhā ity uttarārdhapūrvārdhe somāya svāhā iti dakṣiṇārdhapūrvārdhe athāgnimukhaṃ juhoti yukto vaha jātavedaḥ purastād agne viddhi karma kriyamāṇaṃ yathedam tvaṃ bhiṣagbheṣajasyāsi kartā tvayā gā aśvān puruṣān sanemi svāhā catasra āśāḥ pracarantv agnaya imaṃ no yajñaṃ nayatu prajānan ghṛtaṃ pibann ajaraṃ suvīraṃ brahma samidbhavaty āhutīnāṃ svāhā ā no bhadrāḥ kratavo yantu viśvato 'dabdhāso aparītāsa udbhidaḥ devā no yathā sadamidvṛdhe san na prāyuvo rakṣitāro dive dive svāhā virūpākṣa mā vibādhiṣṭhā mā vibādha vibādhithāḥ nirṛtyai tvā putram āhuḥ sa naḥ marmāṇi dhāraya svāhā virūpākṣam ahaṃ yaje nijaṅghaṃ śabaᄆodaram yo māyaṃ paribādhate śriyai puṣṭyai ca nityadā tasmai svāhā yā tiraścī nipadyase 'haṃ vidharaṇī iti tāṃ tvā ghṛtasya dhārayāgnau saṃrādhinīṃ yaje svāhā saṃrādhinyai devyai svāhā prasādhinyai devyai svāhā bhūḥ svāhā bhuvaḥ svāhā suvaḥ svāhā bhūr bhuvaḥ suvaḥ svāhā ity etāvat sarvadarvīhomānām eṣa kalpaḥ athāsyā upotthāya dakṣiṇena hastena dakṣiṇam aṃsaṃ pratibāhum anvavahṛtya hṛdayadeśam abhimṛśati mama hṛdaye hṛdayaṃ te astu mama citte cittam astu te mama vācam ekamanāḥ śṛṇu mām evānuvratā sahacaryā mayā bhava iti athāsyai dakṣiṇe karṇe japati māṃ te manaḥ praviśatu māṃ cakṣur mām u te bhagaḥ mayi sarvāṇi bhūtāni mayi prajñānam astu te madhuge madhvagāhe jihvā me madhuvādinī mukhe me sāraghaṃ madhu datsu saṃvananaṃ kṛtam cākravākaṃ saṃvananaṃ yan nadībhya udāhṛtam yadvittau devagandharvau tena saṃvaninau svaḥ spṛśāmi te 'ham aṅgāni vāyur āpaś ca mā paraḥ māṃ caiva paśya sūryaṃ ca mā cānyeṣu manaḥ kṛthāḥ somaḥ prathamo vivide gandharvo vivida uttaraḥ tṛtīyo 'gniṣ ṭe patis turīyas te manuṣyajāḥ somo 'dadad gandharvāya gandharvo 'dadad agnaye rayiṃ ca putrāṃś cādād agnir mahyam atho imām sarasvati predam ava subhage vājinīvati tāṃ tvā viśvasya bhūtasya pragāyām asyagrataḥ iti athāsyai dakṣiṇena nīcā hastena dakṣiṇam uttānaṃ hastaṃ sāṅguṣṭham abhīva lomāni gṛhṇāti gṛbhṇāmi te suprajāstvāya hastaṃ mayā patyā jaradaṣṭir yathāsaḥ bhago 'ryamā savitā purandhir mahyaṃ tvādur gārhapatyāya devāḥ iti athaināṃ pradakṣiṇam agniṃ paryāṇayati pari tvāgne puraṃ vayaṃ vipraṃ sahasya dhīmahi dhṛṣadvarṇaṃ dive dive bhettāraṃ bhaṅgurāvataḥ iti atha tathopaviśyānvārabdhāyām upayamanīr juhoti agne śardha mahate saubhagāya tava dyumnāny uttamāni santu sañ jāspatyaṃ suyamam ākṛṇuṣva śatrūyatām abhitiṣṭhā mahāṃsi svāhā somāya janivide svāhā gandharvāya janivide svāhā agnaye janivide svāhā kanyalā pitṛbhyo yatī patilokam ava dīkṣām adāstha svāhā preto muñcāti nāmutas subaddhām amutas karat yatheyam indra mīḍhvaḥ suputrā subhagā satī svāhā imāṃ tvam indra mīḍhvaḥ suputrāṃ subhagāṃ kuru daśāsyāṃ putrān ādhehi patim ekādaśaṃ svāhā agnir aitu prathamo devatānāṃ so 'syai prajāṃ muñcatu mṛtyupāśāt tad ayaṃ rājā varuṇo 'numanyatāṃ yatheyaṃ strī pautram aghaṃ na rodāt svāhā imām agnis trāyatāṃ gārhapatyaḥ prajām asyai nayatu dīrgham āyuḥ aśūnyopasthā jīvatām astu mātā pautram ānandam abhiprabudhyatām iyaṃ svāhā mā te gṛhe niśi ghoṣa utthād anyatra tvad rudatyaḥ saṃviśantu mā tvaṃ vikeśyura āvadhiṣṭhā jīvapatnī patiloke virāja paśyantī prajāṃ sumanasyamānā svāhā aprajastāṃ pautramṛtyuṃ pāpmānam uta vāgham śīrṣṇaḥ srajam ivonmucya dviṣadbhyaḥ pratimuñcāmi pāśaṃ svāhā iti athainām utthāpyottareṇāgniṃ dakṣiṇena padāśmānam āsthāpayati ātiṣṭhemam aśmānam aśmeva tvaṃ sthirā bhava abhitiṣṭha pṛtanyataḥ sahasva pṛtanāyataḥ iti athāsyā añjalāv upastīrya tasyāḥ sodaryo dvir lājān āvapati tān abhighārya juhoti iyaṃ nāry upabrūte 'gnau lājān āvapantī dīrghāyur astu me patir jīvātu śaradaḥ śataṃ svāhā athaināṃ pradakṣiṇam agniṃ paryāṇayati tubhyam agne paryavahan sūryāṃ vahatunā saha punaḥ patibhyo jāyāṃ dā agne prajayā saha iti tathāsthāpayati tathā juhoti athaināṃ punaḥ pradakṣiṇam agniṃ paryāṇayati punaḥ patnīm agnir adād āyuṣā saha varcasā dīrghāyur asyā yaḥ patiḥ sa etu śaradaḥ śatam iti tathaivāsthāpayati tathaiva juhoti athaināṃ punar eva paryāṇayati viśvā uta tvayā vayaṃ dhārā udanyā iva atigāhemahi dviṣaḥ iti atha tathopaviśyānvārabdhāyāṃ jayān abhyātānān rāṣṭrabhṛta iti hutvā athāmātyahomān juhoti atha prājāpatyāt juhoti prajāpate na tvad etāny anyaḥ iti atha sauviṣṭakṛtaṃ juhoti yad asya karmaṇo 'tyarīricaṃ yad vā nyūnam ihākaram agnis tat sviṣṭakṛd vidvān sarvaṃ sviṣṭaṃ suhutaṃ karotu me agnaye sviṣṭakṛte suhutahuta āhutīnāṃ kāmānāṃ samardhayitre svāhā iti atha sruveṇa paridhīn anakti atha paristarāt samullipyājyasthālyāṃ prastaravat barhir aktvā tṛṇaṃ pracchādyāgnāv anupraharati atha śamyā apohya tathaiva pariṣiñcati anvamaṃsthāḥ prāsāvīḥ iti mantrān tān saṃnamayati atha praṇītādbhyo diśo vyunnīya brahmaṇe varaṃ dadāmīti gāṃ brāhmaṇebhyaḥ eṣa āghāravān darvīhomaḥ athāparaḥ parisamūhya paryukṣya paristīryājyaṃ vilāpyotpūya sruksruvaṃ niṣṭapya saṃmṛjya sruci caturgṛhītaṃ gṛhītvā sarvān mantrān samanudrutya sakṛd evāhutiṃ juhoti agniḥ sviṣṭakṛd dvitīyaḥ dvir juhoti dvir nimārṣṭi dviḥ prāśnāty utsṛpyācāmati nirleḍhīty eṣa āgnihotrikaḥ athāparaḥ parisamūhya paryukṣya paristīrya prākṛtena haviṣā yāvad āmnātam āhutīr juhoty eṣa hy apūrvaḥ tatrodāharanti āghāraṃ prakṛtiṃ prāha darvīhomasya bādariḥ āgnihotrikaṃ tathātreyaḥ kāśakṛtsnas tv apūrvatām iti tāṃ na mithas saṃsādayed anādeśāt anunayanty etam agnim athaināṃ pitur aṅkād udvahati guror vā ye vadhvaś candraṃ vahatuṃ yakṣmā yanti janāṁ anu punas tān yajñiyā devā nayantu yata āgatāḥ iti athaināṃ dakṣiṇe haste gṛhītvā svaratham āropya svān gṛhān ānayati pūṣā tveto nayatu hastagṛhyāśvinau tvā pravahatāṃ rathena gṛhān gaccha gṛhapatnī yathāso vaśinī tvaṃ vidathamāvadāsi iti panthānam anumantrayate sugaṃ panthānam ārukṣam ariṣṭaṃ svastivāhanam yasmin vīro na riṣyaty anyeṣāṃ vindate vasu iti oṣadhivanaspatayo nadyo vanāny anumantrayate yā oṣadhayo yā vanaspatayo yā nadyo yāni dhanvāni ye vanā te tvā vadhu prajāvatīṃ pra tve muñcantv aṃhasaḥ iti atha jāyām ānīya svān gṛhān prapādayati bhadrān gṛhān sumanasaḥ prapadye 'vīraghnī vīravataḥ suvīrān irāṃ vahato ghṛtam ukṣamāṇās teṣv ahaṃ sumanāḥ saṃviśāni iti athainām ānaḍuhe carmaṇy upaveśayati iha gāvaḥ prajāyadhvam ihāśvā iha pūruṣāḥ iho sahasradakṣiṇo rāyaspoṣo niṣīdatu iti atrābhyām amātyās tokmāṇy āropayante atha vācaṃ yacchataḥ ā nakṣatrāṇām udayāt athāhorātrayoḥ sandhim anumantrayate nīlalohite bhavataḥ kṛtyāsaktir vyajyate edhante 'syā jñātayaḥ patir bandheṣu badhyatām iti athoditeṣu nakṣatreṣūpaniṣkramya dhruvam arundhatīṃ ca darśayati dhruvo 'si dhruvakṣitir dhruvam asi dhruvataḥ sthitam tvaṃ nakṣatrāṇāṃ methy asi sa mā pāhi pṛtanyataḥ iti dhruvam sapta ṛṣayaḥ prathamāṃ kṛttikānām arundhatīṃ yad dhruvatāṃ ha ninyuḥ ṣaṭkṛttikā mukhyayogaṃ vahantīyam asmākam edhatv aṣṭamy arundhatī ity arundhatīm atha vivāhasyārundhatyupasthānāt kṛtvā vratam upaiti agne vratapate upayamanaṃ vrataṃ cariṣyāmi tac chakeyaṃ tan me rādhyatām vāyo vratapata āditya vratapate vratānāṃ vratapate upayamanaṃ vrataṃ cariṣyāmi tac chakeyaṃ tan me rādhyatām iti ubhau jāyāpatī vratacāriṇau brahmacāriṇau bhavato 'dhaḥśayāte tayoḥ śayyām antareṇodumbaradaṇḍo gandhānulipto vāsasā sūtreṇa vā parivītas tiṣṭhaty ā pakvahomāt caturthyāṃ niśāyāṃ hute pakvahome vrataṃ visṛjya daṇḍam utthāpayaty ūrjaḥ pṛthivyā adhyutthito 'si vanaspate śatavalśo viroha tvayā vayam iṣam ūrjaṃ vadanto rāyaspoṣeṇa samiṣā madema iti athainaṃ vadhvai prayacchati prajayā tvā saṃsṛjāmi māsareṇa surām iva iti taṃ vadhūḥ pratigṛhṇāti prajāvatī bhūyāsam iti athainaṃ varāya prayacchati prajayā tvā paśubhiḥ saṃsṛjāmi māsareṇa surām iva iti taṃ varaḥ pratigṛhṇāti prajāvān paśumān bhūyāsam iti athainaṃ sthūṇādeśe nidhāyāntikena pratipadyate prasiddham upasaṃveśanam śvobhūte daṇḍam ādāya puṇyāhaṃ vācayitvāpsu visarjayati atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛtyāgnikhāt kṛtvā pakvāj juhoti agnir mūrdhā bhuvaḥ iti dvābhyām sviṣṭakṛtprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt sa eṣa pārvaṇo bhavati athāstamita āditye 'nyonyam alaṃkṛtyopariśayyāṃ śayāte atha vadhūm abhimantrayate sumaṅgalīr iyaṃ vadhūr imāṃ sameta paśyata saubhāgyam asyai dattvāyāthāstaṃ viparetana iti athaināṃ sarvasurabhigandhayā mālayā yunakti saṃ nā manaḥ saṃ hṛdayāni saṃ nābhi saṃ tanutyajaḥ saṃ tvā kāmasya yāktreṇa yuñjaty avimocanāya iti ānayantyetamagnim atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛtyāpraṇītābhyaḥ kṛtvā pakvam odanaṃ pāyasaṃ vā yācati tam abhyukṣyāgnāvadhiśrayati ājyaṃ nirvapati athājyamadhiśrayati ubhayaṃ paryagni kṛtvā mekṣaṇaṃ sruvaṃ ca saṃmārṣṭi athaitaṃ caruṃ śrapayitvābhighāryodañcam udvāsya pratiṣṭhitamabhighārayati paridhānaprabhṛtyāgnimukhāt kṛtvā pakvājjuhoti sa evameva sarveṣāṃ sthālīpākānāṃ carukalpaḥ yastvā hṛdā kīriṇā manyamānaḥ iti puronuvākyāmanūcya yasmai tvaṃ sukṛte jātavedaḥ iti yājyayā juhoti athājyāhutīrupajuhoti agne prāyaścitte tvaṃ devānāṃ prāyaścittirasi brāhmaṇastvā nāthakāmaḥ prapadye yāsyāṃ patighnī tanūḥ prajāghnī paśughnī lakṣmighnī jāraghnīmasyai tāṃ kṛṇomi svāhā vāyo prāyaścitte tvaṃ devānāṃ prāyaścittirasi brāhmaṇastvā nāthakāmaḥ prapadye yāsyāṃ patighnī tanūḥ prajāghnī paśughnī lakṣmighnī jāraghnīmasyai tāṃ kṛṇomi svāhā āditya prāyaścitte tvaṃ devānāṃ prāyaścittirasi brāhmaṇastvā nāthakāmaḥ prapadye yāsyāṃ patighnī tanūḥ prajāghnī paśughnī lakṣmighnī jāraghnīmasyai tāṃ kṛṇomi svāhā prajāpate prāyaścitte tvaṃ devānāṃ prāyaścittirasi brāhmaṇastvā nāthakāmaḥ prapadye yāsyāṃ patighnī tanūḥ prajāghnī paśughnī lakṣmighnī jāraghnīmasyai tāṃ kṛṇomi svāhā iti pakvādeva sviṣṭavatībhyāṃ sauviṣṭakṛtam lājairitaratra havyavāham abhimātiṣāhaṃ rakṣohaṇaṃ pṛtanāsu jiṣṇum jyotiṣmantaṃ dīdyataṃ purandhim agniṃ sviṣṭakṛtam āhuvemom sviṣṭamagne abhi tat pṛṇāhi viśvādeva pṛtanā abhiṣya uruṃ naḥ panthāṃ pradiśan vibhāhi jyotiṣmaddhehyajaraṃ na āyuḥ svāhā iti jayaprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athājyaśeṣeṇa hiraṇyamantardhāya mūrdhni saṃsrāvaṃ juhoti bhūḥ svāhā bhuvaḥ svāhā suvaḥ svāhā bhūr bhuvaḥ suvaḥ svāhā iti athaināṃ pradakṣiṇamagniṃ paryāṇayati aryamṇo agniṃ pariyantu kṣipraṃ pratīkṣantāṃ śvaśruvo devarāśca iti atha śrīmantamagāraṃ saṃmṛṣṭopaliptaṃ gandhavantaṃ puṣpavantaṃ dhūpavantaṃ dīpavantaṃ talpavantaṃ sādhivāsaṃ dikṣu sarpiḥsūtrendhanapradyotitam udakumbhādarśocchirasaṃ prapādya tasminnenāṃ saṃveśya tasyā antike japati udīrṣvāto viśvāvaso namaseḍāmahe tvā anyāmiccha prapharvyaṃ saṃ jāyāṃ patyā sṛja udīrṣvātaḥ pativatī hyeṣā viśvāvasuṃ namasā gīrbhir īṭṭe anyāmiccha pitṛṣadaṃ vyaktāṃ sa te bhāgo januṣā tasya viddhi iti athaināmupasaṃveśayati prajāpatiḥ striyāṃ yaśaḥ ityetayā athāsyāḥ stokotiṃ vivṛṇoti prajāyai tvā iti sā yadyaśru kuryāt tām anumantrayate jīvāṃ rudantī vimayanto adhvare dīrghām anuprasitiṃ dīdhiyurnaraḥ vāmaṃ pitṛbhyo ya idaṃ samerire mayaḥ patibhyo janayaḥ pariṣvaje iti brāhmaṇena brāhmaṇyām utpannaḥ prāgupanayanājjāta ityabhidhīyate upanītamātro vratānucārī vedānāṃ kiṃcid adhītya brāhmaṇaḥ ekāṃ śākhām adhītya śrotriyaḥ aṅgādhyāyyanūcānaḥ kalpādhyāyī ṛṣikalpaḥ sūtrapravacanādhyāyī bhrūṇaḥ caturvedādṛṣiḥ ata ūrdhvaṃ devaḥ atha yadi kāmayeta śrotriyaṃ janayeyam ity ārundhatyupasthānāt kṛtvā trirātram akṣāralavaṇāśināv adhaḥśāyinau brahmacāriṇāvāsāte ahatānāṃ ca vāsasāṃ paridhānaṃ sāyaṃ prātaś cālaṅkaraṇam iṣupratodayośca dhāraṇamagniparicaryā ca caturthyāṃ pakvahoma upasaṃveśanaṃ ca atha yadi kāmayetānūcānaṃ janayeyam iti dvādaśarātram etadvrataṃ caret vratānte pakvahoma upasaṃveśanaṃ ca atha yadi kāmayeta ṛṣikalpaṃ janayeyam iti māsam etad vrataṃ caret vratānte pakvahoma upasaṃveśanaṃ ca atha yadi kāmayeta bhrūṇaṃ janayeyam iti caturo māsān etad vrataṃ caret vratānte pakvahoma upasaṃveśanaṃ ca atha yadi kāmayeta ṛṣiṃ janayeyam iti ṣaṇmāsān etad vrataṃ caret vratānte pakvahoma upasaṃveśanaṃ ca atha yadi kāmayeta devaṃ janayeyam iti saṃvatsaram etad vrataṃ caret vratānte pakvahoma upasaṃveśanaṃ ca atha yadaiṣā malavadvāsāḥ syānnainayā saha saṃvadeta na sahāsīta nāsyā annamadyād brahmahatyāyai hyoṣā varṇaṃ pratimucyāste 'tho khalvāhur abhyañjanaṃ vāva striyā annamabhyañjanameva na pratigṛhyaṃ kāmamanyat iti naināmupeyāt nāraṇye na parācīm na snāti nābhyaṅkte na pralikhate nāṅkte na dato dhāvate na nakhāni nikṛntate na kṛṇatti na rajjuṃ sṛjati na parṇena pibati na kharveṇa pibati tasyai kharvasnisro rātrīrvrataṃ cared añjalinā vā pibed akharveṇa vā pātreṇa prajāyai gopīthāya iti brāhmaṇam caturthyāṃ snātāyāṃ niśāyām alaṃkṛtya śayane 'bhimantrayate viṣṇuryoniṃ kalpayatu tvaṣṭā rūpāṇi piṃśatu āsiñcatu prajāpatir dhātā garbhaṃ dadhātu te yathāgnigarbhā pṛthivī dyauryathendreṇa garbhiṇī vāyuryathā diśāṃ garbha evaṃ garbhaṃ dadhātu te garbhaṃ dhehi sinīvāli garbhaṃ dhehi sarasvati garbhaṃ te aśvinau devāv ādhattāṃ puṣkarasrajā hiraṇyayī araṇī yaṃ nirmanthato aśvinā taṃ te garbhaṃ dadhāmyahaṃ daśame māsi sūtave nejameṣa parāpata saputraḥ punarāpata asyai me putrakāmāyai garbhamādhehi yaḥ pumān iti athaināṃ pariṣvajaty amūham asmi sā tvaṃ dyaur ahaṃ pṛthivī tvaṃ reto 'haṃ retobhṛt tvaṃ mano 'hamasmi vāk tvaṃ sāmāhamasmi ṛktvaṃ tāvehi saṃbhavāva saha reto dadhāvahai puṃse putrāya vettavai rāyaspoṣāya suprajāstvāya suvīryāya iti ātmānaṃ pratyabhimṛśate ahaṃ garbhamadadhāmoṣadhīṣvahaṃ viśveṣu bhuvaneṣvantaḥ ahaṃ prajā ajanayan pitṝṇāmahaṃ janibhyo aparīṣu putrān iti athaināmupaiti tāṃ pūṣañ chivatamomarayasva yasyāṃ bījaṃ manuṣyā vapanti yā na ūrū uśatī visrayātai yasyāmuśantaḥ praharema śepham iti sa evameva caturthīprabhṛtyāṣoḍaśīm uttarām uttarāṃ yugmām upaiti prajāniḥśreyasam ṛtugamanam ityācāryāḥ sarvāṇyupagamanāni mantravanti bhavantīti bodhāyanaḥ yaccādau yaccartāviti śālikiḥ athābhyāṃ pañcame 'hani nāpitakarma kurvanti nāpitāya payodanaṃ dattvā grāmāt prācīṃ vodīcīṃ vā diśamupaniṣkramya yatraikamudumbaramūlaṃ paśyanti taṃ pradakṣiṇaṃ parisamūhya pradakṣiṇaṃ gandhairanulimpan japati yathā tvaṃ vanaspata ūrjā abhyutthito vanaspate śatavalśo virohasyevamahaṃ putraiśca paśubhiśca sahasravalśā vi vayaṃ ruhema iti sumanobhiḥ pracchādayati yathā tvaṃ vanaspate phalavānasyevamahaṃ putraiśca paśubhiśca phalavān bhavāni iti atraiva trivṛtānnena balimupaharati mantraṃ codāharanti ūrjasvān payasvān payasā pinvamāno 'smān vanaspate payasābhyāvavṛtsva iti annaṃ saṃskṛtya brāhmaṇān sampūjyāśiṣo vācayitvā jānudaghnamudakamavatīrya prācīnadaśenāhatena vāsasā matsyān gṛhṇato brahmacāriṇaṃ pṛcchato brahmacārin kiṃ paśyasi iti sa pṛṣṭaḥ pratibrūyāt putrāṃśca paśūṃśca iti athaitān matsyān udumbaramūle bakānāṃ balimupaharati dīrghāyutvāya varcase iti atraiva nirmālyāni paribhuktāni vāsāṃsi pratisarāṃśca pratimucyodumbaraśākhāyāṃ saṃsṛjya athāvagāhyānyonyasya pṛṣṭhe dhāvayitvodakāntaṃ pratiyauti pratiyuto varuṇasya pāśaḥ pratyasto varuṇasya pāśaḥ iti anyonyam alaṃkṛtya raktāni vāsāṃsi paridhāyāhatena vāsasā veti yānena padbhyāṃ vā gṛhaṃ gatvā prakṣālitapādāv apa ācamya vāgyatau śayanamārabhete śvobhūte vaiśvadevena pratipadyate māsiśrāddhena cāparapakṣe vijñāte garbhe tiṣye puṃsavanam brāhmaṇān annena pariviṣya puṇya aham svasti ṛddhim iti vācayitvā atha deva yajana ullekhana prabhṛti ā agni mukhāt kṛtvā pakvāt juhoti prajāpate tanvam mama juṣasva tvaṣṭar devebhiḥ sahasāmaḥ indraiḥ viśvaiḥ devaiḥ rātibhiḥ saṃrarāṇaḥ puṃsām bahūnām mātaraḥ syāma _ iti atha ājya āhutīḥ upajuhoti garbhaḥ asi oṣadhīnām garbhaḥ vanaspatīnām iti tisṛbhiḥ anucchandasam sviṣṭakṛt prabhṛti siddham ā dhenu vara pradānāt atha asyāḥ ājya śeṣam āsye pracyotayati asme devāsaḥ vapuṣe cikitsata iti catasṛbhiḥ anucchandasam prathama garbhāyāḥ caturthe māsi sīmantonnayanam brāhmaṇān annena pariviṣya puṇya aham svasti ṛddhim iti vācayitvā atha deva yajana ullekhana prabhṛti ā agni mukhāt kṛtvā pakvāt juhoti dhātā dadātu naḥ iti puronuvākyām anūcya dhātā prajāyāḥ _ rāyaḥ īśe iti yājyayā juhoti atha ājya āhutīḥ upajuhoti dhātā dadātu naḥ rayim prācīm iti ā antāt anuvākasya sviṣṭakṛt prabhṛti siddham ā dhenu vara pradānāt atha asyāḥ tryeṇyā śalalyā tribhiḥ darbha puñjīlaiḥ udumbara prasūnaiḥ yava prasūnaiḥ iti keśān vibhajan sīmantam unnayati rākām aham yāḥ te rāke iti dvābhyām atha asyai yava prasūnāni ābadhnāti yavaḥ asi yavaya asmat dveṣaḥ yavaya arātīḥ iti atha enau vīṇā gāthinaḥ iti pratigṛhṇīte atha enau saṃśāsti gāyatam iti tau etām gāthām gāyataḥ somaḥ eva naḥ rājā iti āhuḥ brāhmaṇīḥ prajāḥ vivṛtta cakrāḥ āsīnāḥ tīreṇa asau te iti yasyai nadyāḥ tīre saṃśritāḥ vasanti tasyai nām gṛhṇāti aṣṭame māsi viṣṇave āhutīḥ juhoti viṣṇoḥ nu kam iti etena sūktena viṣṇave balim upaharati vaiṣṇavaḥ hi eṣa māsaḥ vijñāyate viṣṇuḥ hi garbhasya devatā iti hutaḥ vyākhyātaḥ yathā etat hute bali haraṇam viṣṇave baliḥ aṣṭame māsi pūrva pakṣasya saptamyām dvādaśyām rohiṇyām śroṇāyām vā brāhmaṇān annena pariviṣya puṇyāham svasti ṛddhim iti vācayitvā atha devayajana ullekhana prabhṛti ā praṇītābhyaḥ kṛtvā upotthāya agreṇa agnim daivatam āvāhayati om bhūḥ puruṣam āvāhayāmi om bhuvaḥ puruṣam āvāhayāmi om suvar puruṣam āvāhayāmi om bhūḥ bhuvaḥ suvar puruṣam āvāhayāmi iti āvāhya paridhāna prabhṛti ā agni mukhāt kṛtvā daivatam arcayati āpaḥ hi ṣṭhā mayaḥ bhuvaḥ iti tisṛbhiḥ hiraṇya varṇāḥ śucayaḥ pāvakāḥ iti catasṛbhiḥ pavamānaḥ suvarjanaḥ iti etena anuvākena mārjayitvā atha adbhiḥ tarpayati keśavam tarpayāmi nārāyaṇam mādhavam govindam viṣṇum madhusūdanam trivikramam vāmanam śrīdharam hṛṣīkeśam padmanābham dāmodaram tarpayāmi iti etaiḥ eva nāmadheyaiḥ gandha puṣpa dhūpa dīpaiḥ amuṣmai namaḥ amuṣmai namaḥ iti abhyarcya atha viṣṇave āhutīḥ juhoti viṣṇoḥ nu kam tat asya priyam pra tat viṣṇuḥ paras mātrayā vicakrame tris devaḥ iti jaya prabhṛti siddham ā dhenu vara pradānāt atha guḍa pāyasam ghṛta miśram annam nivedayati amuṣmai svāhā namaḥ amuṣmai svāhā namaḥ iti dvādaśabhiḥ yathāliṅgam vaiṣṇavībhiḥ ṛc yajuḥ sāma atharvabhiḥ stotraiḥ stutibhiḥ stuvanti vyāhṛtībhiḥ puruṣam udvāsayāmi iti udvāsya anna śeṣam patnīm prāśayet pumān asyai jāyate iti vijñāyate yathā u etat āvedya arghyam kuryāt atha śucau same deśe atha asyāḥ upotthāya tām na mithas saṃsādayet ānayanti etam agnim brāhmaṇena brāhmaṇyām utpannaḥ atha ābhyām pañcame ahani vijñāte garbhe prathama garbhāyāḥ caturthe māsi yathā etat hute bali haraṇam yathā etat hute bali haraṇam prathama garbhāyāḥ caturthe māsi vijñāte garbhe atha ābhyām pañcame ahani brāhmaṇena brāhmaṇyām utpannaḥ ānayanti etam agnim tām na mithas saṃsādayet atha asyāḥ upotthāya atha śucau same deśe āvedya arghyam kuryāt yathā u etat atha prahutaḥ jātaṃ kumāramabhimantrayate adbhyaḥ sambhūtaḥ ityetenānuvākena athainaṃ snapayati kṣetriyai tvā nirṛtyai tvā iti ṣaḍbhiranucchandasam athainaṃ svopasthaṃ ādadhāti aṅgādaṅgātsambhavasi hṛdayādadhijāyase ātmā vai putra nāmāsi saṃjīva śaradaḥ śatam iti athainaṃ mūrdhnyabhijighrati aśmā bhava paraśurbhava hiraṇyamastṛtaṃ bhava paśūnāṃ tvā hiṅkāreṇābhijighrāmyasau iti nakṣatranāmadheyena athāsya dakṣiṇe karṇe japati agnirāyuṣmān iti pañcabhiḥ paryāyaiḥ athainaṃ dadhimadhughṛtamiti samudāyutya hiraṇyena prāśayati prāṇo rakṣati viśvamejat ityetenānuvākena pratyṛcam atiśiṣṭaṃ gopade ninayati vyāhṛtībhiḥ athainaṃ māturupastha ādadhāti sīda tvaṃ māturasyā upasthe iti catasṛbhiḥ sahaṃsābhiḥ stanamabhimantrayate yaste stanaḥ śaśayo yo mayobhūr yena viśvā puṣyasi vāryāṇi yo ratnadhā vasuvid yaḥ sudatraḥ sarasvati tamiha dhātave kaḥ iti dhayantamanumantrayate dyauste pṛṣṭhaṃ rakṣatu vāyurūrū aśvinau ca stanaṃ dhayantaṃ savitābhirakṣatu ā vāsasaḥ paridhānād bṛhaspatirviśvedevā abhirakṣantu paścāt iti athāsyodakumbhamucchirasi nidadhāti āpaḥ supteṣu jāgrata rakṣāṃsi nirito nudadhvam iti atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛtyāgnimukhāt kṛtvā pakvājjuhoti hariṃ harantamanuyanti devāḥ iti puronuvākyām anūcya mā chido mṛtyo mā vadhīḥ iti yājyayā juhoti athājyāhutīrupajuhoti sadyaścakamānāya ityāntād anuvākasya sviṣṭakṛtprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athānoyugaṃ rathayugaṃ vā snāpyācchādyālaṃkṛtya agreṇāgnimuddhṛtya tasyāgreṇāśvatthaparṇeṣu hutaśeṣaṃ nidadhāti nama āvyādhinībhyaḥ iti athāstamita āditye gaurasarṣapān phalīkaraṇamiśrān añjalinā juhoti kṛṇuṣva pājaḥ prasitiṃ na pṛthvīm ityetenānuvākena pratyṛcam athaudanam tilasaktubhir ghṛteneti samudāyutya goṣṭhe 'śvatthaparṇeṣu hutaśeṣaṃ nidadhāti aghorāya mahāghorāya namo namaḥ iti athātiśiṣṭaṃ sarvā diśaḥ saṃprakiranti āveśinī vyaśrumukhī kutūhalinyekastanī jṛmbhaṇī stambhanī mohanī ca kṛṣṇā viśākhā vimalā brahmarātrī bhrātṛvyasaṃkhyeṣu patantyamoghāḥ tābhyo vai mātṛbhyo namo namaḥ iti sa evameva phalīkaraṇahomaprabhṛti sāyaṃ prātar daśarātraṃ karoti nānutthitāyāṃ sūtikāyāṃ bhojyānnatā daśamyāmutthānam daśamyāṃ dvādaśyāṃ vā nāmakaraṇam prājāpatyena sūktena hutvā brāhmaṇān annena pariviṣya puṇyāhaṃ svasti ṛddhimiti vācayannāmāsmai dadhāti dvyakṣaraṃ caturakṣaraṃ ṣaḍakṣaram aṣṭākṣaraṃ vā ghoṣavad ādyantarantasthaṃ dīrghābhiniṣṭhānāntam api vā yasmin svityupasargaḥ syāt taddhi pratiṣṭhitamiti vijñāyate ṛṣyaṇūkaṃ devatāṇūkaṃ vā yathaivaiṣāṃ pūrvapuruṣāṇāṃ nāmāni syuḥ ayugakṣaraṃ kumāryāḥ amuṣmai svastīti caturthe māsyupaniṣkramaṇam brāhmaṇānannena pariviṣya puṇyāhaṃ svastiṛddhim iti vācayitvā atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛtyāgnimukhāt kṛtvā svastyātreyaṃ juhoti svasti no mimītāmaśvinā bhagaḥ svasti devyaditir anarṇavaḥ svasti pūṣā asuro dadhātu naḥ svasti dyāvāpṛthivī suketunā svastaye vāyumupabravāmahai somaṃ svasti bhuvanasya yas patiḥ bṛhaspatiṃ sarvagaṇaṃ svastaye svastaya ādityāso no adite kṛdhi svati panthāmanucarema sūryācandramasāviva punar dadatāghnatā jānatā saṃgamemahi svastyayanaṃ tārkṣyamariṣṭanemiṃ mahadbhūtaṃ vāyasaṃ devatānām asuraghnīmindrasakhaṃ samatsu bṛhadyaśo nāvamivāruhema aṃhomucamāṅgirasaṃ gayaṃ ca svastyātreyaṃ manasā ca tārkṣyam prayatapāṇiḥ śaraṇaṃ prapadya svasti saṃbādheṣvabhayaṃ no astu svasti na indro vṛddhaśravāḥ svasti naḥ pūṣā viśvavedāḥ svasti nastārkṣyo ariṣṭanemiḥ svasti no bṛhaspatirdadhātu ityaṣṭābhir anucchandasam jayaprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athopaniṣkramya bāhyāni citriyāṇyabhyarcya trivṛtānnena brāhmaṇān sampūjyāśiṣo vācayitvā pradakṣiṇīkṛtya svān gṛhānānayati ṣaṣṭhe māsyannaprāśanam brāhmaṇānannena pariviṣya puṇyāhaṃ svasti ṛddhimiti vācayitvā atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛtyāgnimukhāt kṛtvā annasūktena juhoti ahamasmi prathamajā ṛtasya ityaṣṭābhiranucchandasam jayaprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athaudanaṃ dadhnā madhunā ghṛtenādbhir iti samudāyutya hiraṇyenauṣadhasya kumāraṃ prāśayati yā jātā oṣadhayaḥ iti ṣaḍbhir anucchandasam bhūr bhuvaḥ suvar apāṃ tvauṣadhīnāṃ rasaṃ prāśayāmi śivāsta āpa oṣadhayaḥ santvasau iti sarvāsvanuṣajati saṃvatsare cūḍākarma triṣu vā saṃvatsareṣu brāhmaṇānannena pariviṣya puṇyāhaṃ svasti ṛddhimiti vācayitvā atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛtyāgnimukhāt kṛtvā pakvājjuhoti ye keśinaḥ iti puronuvākyāmanūcya narte brahmaṇaḥ iti yājyayā juhoti athājyāhutīrupajuhoti āroha proṣṭhaṃ viṣahasva śatrūn ity āntād anuvākasya sviṣṭakṛtprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athāgreṇāgnim udumbaraparṇeṣu hutaśeṣaṃ nidadhāti namo hiraṇyabāhave iti apareṇāgnim ubhayīr apaḥ saṃniṣiñcati uṣṇāsu śītā ānayati uṣṇena vāyav udakenehy aditiḥ keśān vapatu iti tābhirasya śira unatti āpa undantu jīvase dīrghāyutvāya varcase iti ūrdhvāgraṃ barhir anūcchrayati oṣadhe trāyasvainam iti kṣuramabhimantrayate jyok ca sūryaṃ dṛśe iti athainaṃ tiryañcaṃ nidadhāti svadhite mainaṃ hiṃsīḥ iti athāsya keśānvapati yenāvapatsavitā kṣureṇa iti pravapato'numantrayate mā te keśānanugādvarca etat iti athainān samuccitya darbhastambe nidadhāti tebhyo nidhānaṃ bahudhā vyaicchan iti athainamuṣṇodakenāplāvayati balaṃ te bāhuvoḥ savitā dadhātu iti athainam ekaśikhas triśikhaḥ pañcaśikho vā yathaivaiṣāṃ kuladharmaḥ syāt yatharṣi śikhāṃ nidadhātītyeke athainaṃ snāpyācchādyālaṃkṛtya trivṛtānnena brāhmaṇān sampūjyāśiṣo vācayati iti prahuto vyākhyātaḥ athāhutaḥ garbhāṣṭameṣu brāhmaṇamupanayīta garbhaikādaśeṣu rājanyaṃ garbhadvādaśeṣu vaiśyam ā ṣoḍaśāt brāhmaṇasyānātyaya iti evamevetarayoḥ dvāviṃśatiśca caturviṃśatiśca athāpi kāmyāni bhavanti saptame brahmavarcasakāmam aṣṭama āyuṣkāmaṃ navame tejaskāmaṃ daśame 'nnādyakāmam ekādaśa indriyakāmaṃ dvādaśe paśukāmaṃ trayodaśe medhākāmaṃ caturdaśe puṣṭikāmaṃ pañcadaśe bhrātṛvyavantaṃ ṣoḍaśe sarvakāmamiti vasante brāhmaṇamupanayīta grīṣme rājanyaṃ śaradi vaiśyaṃ varṣāsu rathakāramiti sarvāneva vā vasante brāhmaṇānannena pariviṣya puṇyāhaṃ svasti ṛddhimiti vācayitvā kumāraṃ bhojayitvā tasya caulavattūṣṇīṃ keśān oṣya snātaṃ śucivāsasaṃ baddhaśikhaṃ yajñopavītaṃ pratimuñcan vācayati yajñopavītaṃ paramaṃ pavitraṃ prajāpateryatsahajaṃ purastāt āyuṣyamagriyaṃ pratimuñca śubhraṃ yajñopavītaṃ balamastu tejaḥ iti yajñopavītinam apa ācamayyātha devayajanamudānayati atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛty āgnimukhāt kṛtvā pālāśīṃ samidham ājyenāktvābhyādhāpayan vācayati āyurdā deva jarasaṃ gṛṇāno ghṛtapratīko ghṛtapṛṣṭho agne ghṛtaṃ pibannamṛtaṃ cāru gavyaṃ piteva putraṃ jarase nayemaṃ svāhā iti athainamutthāpyottareṇāgniṃ dakṣiṇena padā aśmānam āsthāpayati ātiṣṭhemam aśmānam aśmeva tvaṃ sthiro bhava abhitiṣṭha pṛtanyataḥ sahasva pṛtanāyataḥ iti athainaṃ tiṣye vāsaḥ sadyaḥ kṛttotaṃ paridhāpayan vācayati yā akṛntannavayan yā atanvata yāśca devīrantānabhito'dadanta tās tvā devīr jarasā saṃvyayantvāyuṣmānidaṃ paridhatsva vāsaḥ iti parihitamanumantrayate paridhatta dhatta vāsasainaṃ śatāyuṣaṃ kṛṇuhi dīrghamāyuḥ bṛhaspatiḥ prāyacchad vāsa etat somāya rājñe paridhātavā u jarāṃ gacchāsi paridhatsva vāso bhavā kṛṣṭīnām abhiśastipāvā śataṃ ca jīva śaradaḥ suvarcā rāyaśca poṣamupa saṃvyayasva parīdaṃ vāso adhi dhāḥ svastaye 'bhūrāpīnām abhiśastipāvā śataṃ ca jīva śaradaḥ purūcīrvasūni cāryo vibhajāsi jīvan iti athainaṃ mauñjīṃ mekhalāṃ trivṛtāṃ triḥ pradakṣiṇaṃ parivyayan vācayati mauñjīṃ brāhmaṇasya jyāmaurvīṃ rājanyasya āvīsūtraṃ vaiśyasya sarveṣāmeva vā mauñjīm iyaṃ duruktātparibādhamānā śarma varūthaṃ punatī na āgāt prāṇāpānābhyāṃ balam ābharantī priyā devānāṃ subhagā mekhaleyam iti parivītāmanumantrayate ṛtasya gauptrī tapasaḥ paraspī ghnatī rakṣaḥ sahamānā arātīḥ sā naḥ samantam anu parīhi bhadrayā bhartāraste mekhale mā riṣāma iti granthiṃ karoti prāṇānāṃ granthirasi sa mā visraṃsaḥ iti nābhideśe athāsmā ajinaṃ pratimuñcan vācayati kṛṣṇājinaṃ brāhmaṇasya rauravaṃ rājanyasya bastājinaṃ vaiśyasya sarveṣāṃ vā kṛṣṇājinam mitrasya cakṣurdharuṇaṃ balīyastejo yaśasvi sthaviraṃ samiddham anāhanasyaṃ vasanaṃ jariṣṇu parīdaṃ vājyajinaṃ dadhe'ham iti athāsmai daṇḍaṃ prayacchati pālāśaṃ bailvaṃ vā brāhmaṇasya naiyagrodhaṃ skandhajam avāgagraṃ rauhītakaṃ vā rājanyasya bādaram audumbaraṃ vā vaiśyasya sarveṣāṃ vā vārkṣam somo 'si somapaṃ mā kuru iti pālāśam brahmavarcasamasi brahmavarcasāya tvā iti bailvam ojo 'sy ojo mayi dhehi iti naiyagrodham balamasi balaṃ mayi dhehi iti rauhītakam puṣṭirasi puṣṭiṃ mayi dhehi iti bādaram ūrg asy ūrjaṃ mayi dhehi ity audumbaram ahaṃ vṛkṣasya rerivā kīrtiḥ pṛṣṭhaṃ gireriva ūrdhvapavitro vājinīva svamṛtamasmi draviṇaṃ savarcasam iti vārkṣam ko nāmāsy asau nāmāsmi iti śāṭyāyanakam athainaṃ dakṣiṇe haste gṛhṇāti yasmin bhūtaṃ ca bhavyaṃ ca sarve lokās samāhitāḥ tena gṛhṇāmi tvāmahaṃ mahyaṃ gṛhṇāmi tvāmahaṃ prajāpatinā tvā mahyaṃ gṛhṇāmyasau iti athainaṃ devatābhyaḥ paridadāti devebhyastvā paridadāmi viśvadevebhyastvā paridadāmi viśvebhyastvā devebhyaḥ paridadāmi sarvebhyastvā devebhyaḥ paridadāmi sarvābhyastvā devatābhyaḥ paridadāmyasau iti athainam upanayati devasya tvā savituḥ prasave 'śvinor bāhubhyāṃ pūṣṇo hastābhyām upanaye 'sau iti atha kumāraḥ pakvājjuhoti yaśchandasāmṛṣabho viśvarūpaś chandobhyo 'dhy amṛtāt saṃbabhūva sa mendro medhayā spṛṇotv amṛtasya deva dhāraṇo bhūyāsaṃ svāhā iti athājyāhutīrupajuhoti kṣetriyai tvā nirṛtyai tvā iti ṣaḍbhiranucchandasam evam eva brahmasūktena hutvā brahma jajñānam iti ṣaḍbhiḥ sviṣṭakṛtprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt agreṇāgniṃ palāśaparṇeṣu hutaśeṣaṃ nidadhāti namo astu nīlagrīvāya iti atra sāvitravratam atha pālāśīś catasraḥ samidha ārdrāḥ sapalāśāḥ saprārohāḥ prādeśamātrīr apariśuṣkāgrā ghṛtānvaktā abhyādhāpayan vācayati yājñikānāṃ vā vṛkṣāṇāṃ anyatamasya agne vratapate sāvitraṃ vrataṃ cariṣyāmi tacchakeyaṃ tanme rādhyatāṃ svāhā vāyo vratapata āditya vratapate vratānāṃ vratapate sāvitraṃ vrataṃ cariṣyāmi tacchakeyaṃ tanme rādhyatāṃ svāhā iti apareṇāgnim udagagraṃ kūrcaṃ nidhāya tasmin prāṅmukha ācārya upaviśati rāṣṭrabhṛd asy ācāryāsandī mā tvad yoṣam iti tasyāgreṇa kumāro darbheṣu pratyaṅmukha upaviśya pādāv anvārabhyāha sāvitrīṃ bho anubrūhi iti tasmā anvāhom iti pratipadyate tat savitur vareṇyam ity etāṃ paccho 'rdharcaśas tataḥ samastāṃ vyāhṛtīr vihṛtāḥ pādādiṣv anteṣu vā tathārdharcayor uttamāṃ kṛtsnāyāmiti atha kumāraḥ pakvādupādāya prāśnāti śarīraṃ me vicarṣaṇam jihvā me madhumattamā karṇābhyāṃ bhūri viśruvam brahmaṇaḥ kośo'si medhayā pihitaḥ śrutaṃ me gopāya iti atha haike prāk sāvitryāḥ prāśnāti brahma vā annamiti vadantaḥ tad u tathā na kuryān nānuktāyāṃ sāvitryāṃ prāśnīyād ity anūktāyām anūktāyāṃ sāvitryāṃ prāśnīyād iti śāṭyāyanakam athāpa upaspṛśya jyotiṣmatyādityam upatiṣṭhate udvayaṃ tamasas pari iti athainaṃ saṃśāsti brahmacāry asy apośāna karma kuru mā divā suṣupthāḥ samidha ādhehi bhaikṣācaryaṃ cara sadāraṇyāt samidha āharodakumbhaṃ cāharācāryādhīno bhava vedamadhīṣva iti sa evamevaitat sarvaṃ karoti athāsmā ariktaṃ pātraṃ prayacchannāha mātaramevāgre bhikṣasva iti sa mātaramevāgre bhikṣeta bhavati bhikṣāṃ dehīti brāhmaṇo bhikṣeta bhikṣāṃ bhavati dehīti rājanyaḥ dehi bhikṣāṃ bhavatīti vaiśyaḥ tatsamāhṛtyācāryāya prāha bhaikṣamidam iti tat subhaikṣam itītaraḥ pratigṛhṇāti uttareṇāgniṃ dve strīpratikṛtī kṛtya gandhairmālyena cālaṃkṛtya trivṛtānnena brāhmaṇān sampūjyāśiṣo vācayitvā śraddhāmedhe priyetām iti tryahametamagniṃ dhārayanti kṣāralavaṇavarjam adhaḥśayyā ca etasminn evāgnau vyāhṛtībhiḥ sāyaṃ prātaḥ samidho 'bhyādadhyāt evam anyasminn api sadā athainaṃ pradakṣiṇam agniṃ parisamūhati juṣasva naḥ samidham agne adya śocā bṛhad yajanaṃ dhūmamṛṇvan upaspṛśa divyaṃ sā nu stūpaiḥ saṃ raśmibhis tatanaḥ sūryasya iti athainaṃ pradakṣiṇam agniṃ pariṣiñcati adite 'numanyasva iti dakṣiṇataḥ prācīnam anumate 'numanyasva iti paścād udīcīnam sarasvate 'numanyasva ity uttarataḥ prācīnam deva savitaḥ prasuva iti samantaṃ pradakṣiṇam samantam eva vā tūṣṇīm tasmin vyāhṛtībhiḥ sāyaṃ prātaḥ samidho 'bhyādadhāti bhūḥ svāhā bhuvaḥ svāhā suvaḥ svāhā bhūr bhuvaḥ suvaḥ svāhā iti tathaiva parisamūhya tathaiva pariṣiñcati anvamaṃsthāḥ prāsāvīḥ iti mantrāntān saṃnamayati athainam upatiṣṭhate yat te agne tejaḥ iti tisṛbhiḥ mayi medhāṃ mayi prajāmiti tisṛbhiḥ ṣoḍhā vihito vai puruṣaḥ ity etasmād brāhmaṇāt atha tisṛṣu vyuṣṭāsv etam agnim ādāya tāṃ diśaṃ yanti yatrāsya palāśaḥ spaṣṭo bhavati taṃ pradakṣiṇaṃ parisamūhati suśravaḥ suśravasaṃ mā kuru yathā tvaṃ suśravaḥ suśravā asy evam ahaṃ suśravaḥ suśravā bhūyāsaṃ yathā tvaṃ suśravaḥ suśravo devānāṃ nidhigopo 'sy evam ahaṃ brāhmaṇānāṃ brahmaṇo nidhigopo bhūyāsamiti tasyāgreṇa uttareṇa vāgnim upasamādhāya saṃparistīryāthāvratyaprāyaścitte juhoti yan ma ātmano mindābhūt punar agniś cakṣur adāt iti dvābhyām atha pālāśīś catasraḥ samidha ārdrāḥ sapalāśāḥ saprārohāḥ prādeśamātrīr apariśuṣkāgrā ghṛtānvaktā abhyādhāpayan vācayati yājñikānāṃ vā vṛkṣāṇām anyatamasya agne vratapate sāvitraṃ vratam acāriṣaṃ tad aśakaṃ tanme rādhi svāhā vāyo vratapata āditya vratapate vratānāṃ vratapate sāvitraṃ vratam acāriṣaṃ tad aśakaṃ tan me rādhi svāhā iti tathaiva suśravasam abhyarcya trivṛtānnena brāhmaṇān sampūjyāśiṣo vācayitvā atraike daṇḍam ajinaṃ mekhalāṃ vāsaś cātisṛjanti anyāny ādāyāsya vāsa ādatte yasya te prathamavāsyaṃ harāmas taṃ tvā viśve anumadantu devāḥ taṃ tvā bhrātaraḥ suhṛdo vardhamānam anujāyantāṃ bahavaḥ sujātam iti athādhonābhy uparijānv ācchādya daṇḍam ajinaṃ mekhalāṃ ca dhārayan śrāddhasūtakamaithunamadhumāṃsāni varjayan bhaikṣāhāro 'dhaḥśāyī cācāryasya gṛhān etīti vijñāyate ācāryo vai brahmeti vedam adhītya snāsyann ity uktaṃ samāvartanam mantrabrāhmaṇaṃ veda ity ācakṣate mantrabrāhmaṇayor vedanāmadheyam mantrabrāhmaṇe yajñasya pramāṇam mantrabrāhmaṇe adhītya cīrṇeṣu vā vrateṣu etāvad eva nānā atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛty āgnimukhāt kṛtvā pālāśīṃ samidham ājyenāktvā madhyaṃdine 'bhyādadhāti tat purastād vyākhyātam atha keśaśmaśrulomanakhāvāpanenaiva pratipadyate siddham ā chatrādānāt kṛtvā pakvāj juhoti āvahantī vitanvānā kurvāṇā cīram ātmanaḥ vāsāṃsi mama gāvaś ca annapāne ca sarvadā tato me śriyam āvaha lomaśāṃ paśubhiḥ saha svāhā iti athājyāhutīr upajuhoti āmāyantu brahmacāriṇaḥ svāhā yaśo jane 'sāni svāhā śreyān vasyaso 'sāni svāhā taṃ tvā bhaga praviśāni svāhā sa mā bhaga praviśa svāhā iti sviṣṭakṛtprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athāgreṇāgniṃ bilvaśākhāyāṃ hutaśeṣaṃ nidadhāti tasmin sahasraśākhe ni bhagāhaṃ tvayi mṛje svāhā iti atha pakvād upādāya prāśnāti yathāpaḥ pravatā yanti yathā māsā aharjaram evaṃ māṃ brahmacāriṇaḥ dhātar āyantu sarvataḥ svāhā iti prāśyāpa ācamyoraḥ pratyātmānaṃ pratyabhimṛśate prativeśo 'si pra mā pāhi pra mā padyasva iti so 'traivāste ā nakṣatrāṇām udayāt athoditeṣu nakṣatreṣūpaniṣkramya diśa upatiṣṭhata iti siddham ata ūrdhvam yasminn agnāv upanayati tasmin brahmacaryaṃ tasmin vratacaryaṃ tasmin samāvartanaṃ tasmin pāṇigrahaṇaṃ tasmin gṛhyāni karmāṇi kriyante tasmin kāmyāni tasmin prajāsaṃskārā ityeke sa eṣa upanayanaprabhṛti vyāhṛtībhiḥ samiddhir hūyata ā samāvartanāt samāvartanaprabhṛtyājyena vyāhṛtībhir hūyata ā pāṇigrahaṇāt pāṇigrahaṇaprabhṛti vrīhibhir yavair vā hastenaite āhutī juhoti agnaye svāhā prajāpataye svāhā iti sāyam sūryāya svāhā prajāpataye svāhā iti prātar api agnihotrahaviṣām anyatamena juhuyāt parvaṇi parvaṇi cāgneyasthālīpākaḥ sa eṣa āghāravān syād āgnihotriko vāpy āpūrviko vā tena sarpiṣkatā vidyāvantaṃ brāhmaṇaṃ bhojayet yo 'syāpacitatamas tasmā ṛṣabhaṃ dadyād ity eke athāsyānugatasya yā prakṛtis tata āharaṇam upavāso 'nugate 'nyatarasya bhāryāyāḥ patyur vā api vaikāṃ juhuyāt ayāś cāgne 'sy anabhiśastīś ca satyamittvamayā asi ayasā manasā dhṛto 'yasā havyam ūhiṣe 'yā no dhehi bheṣajaṃ svāhā iti āhuto vyākhyātaḥ atha śūlagavaḥ saṃvatsare saṃvatsare mārgaśīrṣyāṃ paurṇamāsyāṃ kriyeta api vārdrāyām goṣu vopataptāsu goṣu guptāsu araṇye 'gnim upasamādhāya saṃparistīryā praṇītābhyaḥ kṛtvā barhir ādāya gām upākaroti īśānāya tvā juṣṭām upākaromi iti tūṣṇīm ity eke athainām adbhiḥ prokṣati īśānāya tvā juṣṭāṃ prokṣāmi iti tūṣṇīm ity eke tām atraiva pratīcīnaśirasīm udīcīnapadīṃ saṃjñapayanti tasyai saṃjñaptāyā adbhir abhiṣekam prāṇān āpyāyayati tūṣṇīm tūṣṇīṃ vapām utkhidya hṛdayam uddharati prajñātāni cāvadānāni tāny eṣv eva śūleṣūpanīkṣya tasminn evāgnau śrapayanti athaitāni śūlebhya upanīkṣya punaḥ kumbhyāṃ śrapayanti athaitāny abhighāritāny udvāsya pratiṣṭhitam abhighārayati paridhānaprabhṛty āgnimukhāt kṛtvā daivatam āvāhayati ā tvā vahantu harayaḥ sacetasaḥ cādhīyīta agnim īḍe purohitam iti ṛgvedasya iṣe tvorje tvā iti yajurvedasya agna āyāhi vītaye iti sāmavedasya śaṃ no devīr abhiṣṭaye ity atharvavedasya agnir mūrdhā bhuvaḥ iti chandāṃsi yad devā devaheḍanam iti kūśmāṇḍyaḥ yad adhīte sa brahmayajño yaj juhoti sa devayajño yat pitṛbhyaḥ svadhākaroti sa pitṛyajño yad bhūtebhyo baliṃ harati sa bhūtayajño yad brāhmaṇebhyo 'nnaṃ dadāti sa manuṣyayajña iti ete pañca mahāyajñāḥ satataṃ suprayuktā nayanti paramāṃ gatim etebhyo yasya pañcabhyo yajña eko 'pi hīyate manasvaty āhutis tatra prāyaścittaṃ vidhīyate dvyahaṃ tryahaṃ vāpi pramādād akṛteṣu tu tisras tantumatīr hutvā catasro vāruṇīr japet daśāhaṃ dvādaśāhaṃ vā vicchinneṣu tu sarvaśaḥ catasro 'bhyāvartinīr hutvā kāryas tāntumataś caruḥ yasya strī vānupeto vā gṛheṣv etān balīn haret kūśmāṇḍyas tatra hotavyo hutvā yajñasamṛddhaye pravāsaṃ gacchato yasya gṛhe kartā na vidyate pañcānāṃ mahatām eṣāṃ sa yajñaiḥ saha gacchati pravāse kurute cainān yad annam upapadyate na ced utpadyate cānnam adbhir enān samāpayet adbhir eva vrataṃ kuryād yathālābham anuvratam devānāṃ devayajñena dvijā gacchanti sāmyatām pitṝṇāṃ pitṛyajñena bhūtayajñena bhūtinaḥ manor manuṣyayajñena brahmayajñena brahmaṇaḥ etāsāṃ sāmyatāṃ gatvā devatānāṃ śataṃ samāḥ ānandaṃ brahma gacchanti dhruvaṃ śāśvatam avyayam iti athāsmā atithir bhavati guroḥ samānavṛttir vaikhānaso vā gṛhastho vānaprasthaḥ parivrājako gataśrīḥ snātako rājā vā dharmayuktaḥ teṣām abhyutthāyāsanaṃ pādyam arhaṇam arghyaṃ vā prayuñjīta yās tatrauṣadhayaḥ santi tā deyāḥ anyāṃ vā prakriyāṃ prakurvīta sarvebhyo 'bhyāgatebhya ā śvacāṇḍālebhyaḥ svāgataṃ kāryam oṣadhivibhāgas tu vibhavavatā kāryo 'bhāve bhūmir udakaṃ tṛṇāni kalyāṇī vāg iti etāni vai sato 'gāre na kṣīyante kadācana iti tān etān paraṃ brahmety ācakṣate teṣāṃ grahaṇe tu dvādaśarātram akṣāralavaṇabhojanam adhaḥśayanaṃ brahmacaryam trirātropoṣita utkṣepaṇau parau gṛhṇīyāt baliharaṇaṃ vyākhyātam atha pratyavarohaṇam vasantādau madhuś ca mādhavaś ca iti hutvā vāsantikair alaṅkārair alaṃkṛtya vāsantikāny annāni brāhmaṇebhyo dattvānnaśeṣān sagaṇaḥ prāśnāti atha grīṣmādau śukraś ca śuciś ca iti hutvā graiṣmikair alaṃkārair alaṃkṛtya graiṣmikāny annāni brāhmaṇebhyo dattvānnaśeṣān sagaṇaḥ prāśnāti atha varṣādau nabhaś ca nabhasyaś ca iti hutvā vārṣikair alaṅkārair alaṃkṛtya vārṣikāny annāni brāhmaṇebhyo dattvānnaśeṣān sagaṇaḥ prāśnāti atha śaradādau iṣaś corjaś ca iti hutvā śāradikair alaṅkārair alaṃkṛtya śāradikāny annāni brāhmaṇebhyo dattvānnaśeṣān sagaṇaḥ prāśnāti atha hemantādau sahaś ca sahasyaś ca iti hutvā haimantikair alaṅkārair alaṃkṛtya haimantikāny annāni brāhmaṇebhyo dattvānnaśeṣān sagaṇaḥ prāśnāti atha śiśirādau tapaś ca tapasyaś ca iti hutvā śaiśirikair alaṅkārair alaṃkṛtya śaiśirikāny annāni brāhmaṇebhyo dattvānnaśeṣān sagaṇaḥ prāśnāti athādhimāse saṃsarpo 'sy aṃhaspatyāya tvā iti hutvā caitrikair alaṃkārair alaṃkṛtya caitrikāny annāni brāhmaṇebhyo dattvānnaśeṣān sagaṇaḥ prāśnāti sa eṣa āghāravān vā syād āgnihotriko vāpy āpūrviko vā pratyavarohaṇaṃ vyākhyātam athāṣṭakāhomaḥ taiṣe māsyaparapakṣasyāṣṭamyāṃ kriyeta evaṃ māgha evaṃ phālgune yadi vihṛtaḥ yady u vai samasta upariṣṭānmāghyāḥ paurṇamāsyā aparapakṣasya saptamyām aṣṭamyāṃ navamyāmiti kriyetāpi vāṣṭamyāmeva śvaḥ kariṣyāmīti brāhmaṇān nimantrayate yonigotraśrutavṛttasambandhān ityeke kāmaṃ sambandhānapi śrutavṛttasampannān śrutavṛttayor hi svadhā nidhīyata ityupadiśanti tān śvobhūte śmaśrukarmābhyañjanasnānairyathopapādaṃ sampūjya svayamāplutya śucau same deśe devayajanollekhanaprabhṛtyā praṇītābhyaḥ kṛtvā barhirādāya gām upākaroti pitṛbhyastvā pitāmahebhyastvā prapitāmahebhyastvā juṣṭāmupākaromi iti tūṣṇīmityeke athainām adbhiḥ prokṣati pitṛbhyastvā pitāmahebhyastvā prapitāmahebhyastvā juṣṭāṃ prokṣāmi iti tūṣṇīmityeke tāmatraiva pratīcīnaśirasīṃ dakṣiṇāpadīṃ saṃjñapanti tasyai saṃjñaptāyā adbhir abhiṣekam prāṇān āpyāyayati tūṣṇīm tūṣṇīṃ vapām utkhidya hṛdayam uddharati prajñātāni cāvadānāni tānyeteṣvevaṃ śūleṣūpanīkṣyai tasminnevāgnau śrapayanti pṛthaṅmāṃsaṃ caudanaṃ cāpūpāṃśca śrapayantyanyāṃśca bhakṣyaviśeṣāṃt sarvaṃ siddhaṃ samānīyāyugmān brāhmaṇān suprakṣālitapāṇipādān apa ācamayya sadarbhopakᄆpteṣv āsaneṣu dvau daive trīnpitrye ekaikamubhayatra vā prāṅmukhān upaveśayatyudaṅmukhān vā sa yadi prāṅmukhān dakṣiṇāpavargaḥ yadyudaṅmukhān prāgapavargaḥ teṣāmevodakaṃ ninīya sapraṇavena kṣaṇaṃ grāhayati aṣṭakāśrāddhe kṣaṇaḥ kriyatām ity oṃ tatheti prativacanam prāpnotu bhavān prāpnotu bhavān iti prāpnavāni prāpnavāni itītare pratyāhuḥ athaitān tilamiśrā apaḥ pratigrāhayati amuṣmai svadhā namo 'muṣmai svadhā namaḥ iti tristilodakam eke samāmananti puro'nnaṃ dvis tilodakam dadyāt bhuktavatsu ca tṛtīyamiti athainān vastragandhapuṣpadhūpadīpamālyair yathopapādaṃ sampūjya pṛcchati uddhriyatām agnau ca kriyatāṃ itītare pratyāhuḥ api vā agnau kariṣyāmi iti kuruṣva itītare pratyāhuḥ athābhyanujñātaḥ paridhānaprabhṛtyāgnimukhāt kṛtvā śṛtāyāṃ vapāyāṃ pañca sruvāhutīr juhoti yāḥ prācīḥ sambhavanty āpa uttarataśca yāḥ adbhirviśvasya bhuvanasya dhartrībhir antaranyaṃ piturdadhe svadhā namaḥ svāhā antardadhe parvatair antarmahyā pṛthivyā divā digbhir anantābhir ūtibhir antaranyaṃ pitāmahāddadhe svadhā namaḥ svāhā antardadha ṛtubhiḥ sarvair ahorātraiḥ sasaṃdhikaiḥ ardhamāsaiśca māsaiś cāntar anyaṃ prapitāmahād dadhe svadhā namaḥ svāhā yan me mātā pralulobha caraty ananuvratā tan me retaḥ pitā vṛṅktāṃ mābhur anyo 'vapadyatāṃ svadhā namaḥ svāhā yad vaḥ kravyād aṅgamadahaṃ lokānanayan praṇayan jātavedāḥ tad vo ahaṃ punar āveśayāmy ariṣṭāḥ sarvair aṅgaiḥ sambhavatha pitaraḥ svadhā namaḥ svāhā iti tredhā vapāṃ vicchidyaudumbaryā darvyā juhoti somāya pitṛmate śuṣmiṇe juhumo haviḥ vājannidaṃ juṣasva naḥ svajā havyaṃ devebhyaḥ pitṛbhyaḥ svadhā namaḥ svāhā aṅgirasvantam ūtaye yamaṃ pitṛmantam āhuve vaivasvatedam addhi naḥ svajā havyaṃ devebhyaḥ pitṛbhyaḥ svadhā namaḥ svāhā yad agne kavyavāhana pitṝn yakṣi ṛtāvṛdhaḥ pra devebhyo vaha havyaṃ pitṛbhyaś ca svadhā kavyaṃ devebhyaḥ pitṛbhyaḥ svadhā namaḥ svāhā iti athāṣṭakāhomaṃ juhoti iyam eva sā yā prathamā vyaucchat iti pañcadaśa īyuṣ ṭe ye pūrvatarām apaśyan ityekām saṃvatsarasya pratimānam ity ekāṃ tāḥ saptadaśa athāpūpam aṣṭadhā vicchidya trīṇy avadānāni vapāyāḥ kalpena hutvāthetarāṇi brāhmaṇebhyo dattvātraitāny avadānānīḍāsūne praticchādyaudanaṃ māṃsaṃ yūṣam ity ājyena samudāyutyaudumbaryā svāhā sarvebhyaḥ svadhā namaḥ svāhā sarvābhyaḥ svadhā namaḥ svāhā iti agnaye kavyavāhanāya sviṣṭakṛte svadhā namaḥ svāhā iti dakṣiṇārdhapūrvārdhe māṃsodanaṃ pātreṣūddhṛtya viśeṣān upanikṣipya hutaśeṣena saṃsṛjya dakṣiṇāgreṣu darbheṣu sādayitvā dakṣiṇāgraiḥ darbhaiḥ praticchādyābhimṛśati pṛthivī te pātraṃ dyaur apidhānaṃ brahmaṇas tvā mukhe juhomi brāhmaṇānāṃ tvā vidyāvatāṃ prāṇāpānayor juhomy akṣitam asi mā pitṝṇāṃ pitāmahānāṃ prapitāmahānāṃ kṣeṣṭhā amutrāmuṣmin loke iti athaitāni brāhmaṇebhya upanikṣipya brāhmaṇānām aṅguṣṭhenānakhenānudiśati amuṣmai svadhā namo 'muṣmai svadhā namaḥ iti bhuñjānān samīkṣate prāṇe niviṣṭo 'mṛtaṃ juhomi iti pañcabhiḥ brahmaṇi ma ātmāmṛtatvāya ity ātmānam na cāta ūrdhvaṃ nirīkṣate hrīkā hi pitaraḥ iti vijñāyate sarvaiḥ kāmais tarpayan svadhāyuktāni brahmāṇy abhiśrāvayan rakṣoghnāni ca nairṛtāni ca tṛptyante tṛptāḥ sthetyuktvā tṛptāḥ sma iti prativacanam tṛptān apa ācamayyāśayeṣv annaśeṣān saṃprakirati ye 'gnidagdhā jātā jīvā ye ye tv adagdhāḥ kule mama bhūmau dattena tṛpyantu tṛptā yāntu parāṃ gatim iti athainān saṃkṣālanena viṣiñcann avakīrya svaditam iti vācayitvā dakṣiṇābhir ārādhayati suvarṇahiraṇyaprāṇivastralohabhūmibhāṇḍair gavāśvājāvikahastidāsapuruṣavrīhiyavamāṣatiladaṇḍopānacchatrakamaṇḍaluyānāsanaśayanopadhānaiḥ sarvopakaraṇair yathopapādaṃ sampūjyākṣayyaṃ vācayitvopasaṃgṛhya svadhāṃ vācayitvotthāpya prasādya saṃsādya pradakṣiṇīkṛtya śeṣam anujñāpyaitenaiva yathetam etyānnaśeṣān nivedayate yathā brūyus tathā kuryāt tais tv abhyanujñeyam athābhyanujñāto dakṣiṇenāgniṃ dakṣiṇāgrān darbhān saṃstīrya teṣv annaśeṣaiḥ piṇḍaṃ dadāti pitṛbhyaḥ svadhā namaḥ iti caturviṃśatiḥ athainān saṃkṣālanena trir apasalaiḥ pariṣiñcati ūrjaṃ vahantīr amṛtaṃ ghṛtaṃ madhu payaḥ kalilaṃ parisnutaṃ svadhā stha tarpayata me pitṝn tṛpyata tṛpyata tṛpyata iti jayaprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt ācamane cāgnimukhe cābhiśrāvaṇe copasaṅgrahaṇe ca paścāddhomeṣu ca yajñopavītam athetaratra prācīnāvītam evam eva śvobhūte māṃsaśeṣeṇaivam eva śvobhūte yadi tryaham atha yadi gāṃ na labhate meṣamajaṃ vālabhate āraṇyena vā māṃsena yathopapannena khaḍgamṛgamahiṣameṣavarāhapṛṣataśaśarohitaśārṅgatittirikapotakapiñjalavārdhrāṇasānām akṣayyaṃ tilamadhusaṃsṛṣṭam tathā matsyasya śatavalaiḥ kṣīrodanena vā sūpodanena vā yad vā bhavaty āmair vā mūlaphalaiḥ pradānamātram hiraṇyena vā pradānamātram api vā gogrāsam āharet api vānūcānebhya udakumbhān āharet api vā śrāddhamantrān adhīyīta api vāraṇye 'gninā kakṣam upoṣed eṣām ekāṣṭaketi na tv evānaṣṭakaḥ syāt sikatā śrāddhe pavitraṃ yady adhyavasanāya yady anvavakiraṇāya kuśāḥ kutapo dūrvā iti śrāddhe pavitraṃ yady āsanāya yadi paristaraṇāya yady utpavanāya tilāḥ śrāddhe pavitraṃ yadi dānāya yadi bhojanāya yady apāṃ saṃsarjanāya khaḍgaḥ śrāddhe pavitraṃ yadi māṃsaṃ yady asthimayaṃ pātram dauhitraḥ śrāddhe pavitraṃ yadi bhoktā yadi pariveṣṭā yady abhiśrāvayitā ity aṣṭakāhomo vyākhyātaḥ evam eva māsiśrāddham aparapakṣasyānyatame 'hani kriyeta etāvad eva nānā nātrāṣṭakāhomo bhavati ity aṣṭakā vyākhyātā itīmāḥ sapta pākayajñasaṃsthā vyākhyātāḥ athāṣṭakāhomaḥ atha madhyarātrāt stanite sapradoṣam ahar anadhyāyaḥ astamite codayād vidyuti ca svapnāntam evam eva kāṇḍopākaraṇakāṇḍasamāpanābhyām sa ekaḥ kāṇḍaṛṣiḥ tasya caivaikasya kāṇḍasyādyo 'nuvākaḥ tasya caivaikasya kāṇḍasyaitad ahar anadhyāyaḥ evaṃ kāṇḍavisarge etāvad eva nānā nātrānuvākaḥ pauroḍāśikaṃ yājamānaṃ hotāro hautraṃ paitṛmedha iti sabrāhmaṇāni sānubrāhmaṇāni prājāpatyāni ādhvaryavaṃ grahā dākṣiṇāni samiṣṭayajūṃṣy avabhṛthayajūṃṣi vājapeyaḥ śukriyāṇi savā iti sabrāhmaṇāni sānubrāhmaṇāni saumyāni agnyādheyam agnihotram agnyupasthānam agnicayanaṃ sāvitraṃ nāciketaṃ cāturhotrīyaṃ vaiśvasṛjāruṇā iti sabrāhmaṇāni sānubrāhmaṇāny āgneyāni rājasūyaḥ paśubandhaḥ iṣṭayo nakṣatreṣṭayo divaśyenayo 'pāghāḥ sātrāyaṇam upahomāḥ kaukilīsūktāny aupānuvākyaṃ yājyāśvamedhaḥ puruṣamedhaḥ sautrāmaṇy acchidrāṇi paśuhautram upaniṣada iti sabrāhmaṇāni sānubrāhmaṇāni vaiśvadevāni svāyambhuvaṃ kāṇḍaṃ kāṭhake paṭhito vidhiḥ svayambhūś cātra daivataṃ sarvabhūtapatiḥ śucir iti atha kārīrīvrataṃ catūrātram akṣāralavaṇaṃ bhūmau bhuñjīta paśuvat evam eva kārāvratam sāvitrībhyaḥ prabhṛtyūrdhvam oṣadhyanuvākān adhīyīran nātra bhūmau bhuñjīta na paśuvaditi ācāryaprasūtaḥ karmāṇi karotīti vijñāyate ācāryo vai brahmeti kāṇḍe kāṇḍe ca vratacaryā athemāni brāhmaṇāni sāṃvatsarikair vratair adhyeyāni bhavanti hotāraḥ śukriyāṇy upaniṣado godānaṃ sammitaṃ iti hotṛṣu pradhānakāleṣv bhavati tasya kāṇḍopākaraṇakāṇḍasamāpanābhyāṃ pratipattir avasānaṃ ca sarvavedasaṃmitam ity ācakṣate tasya dvādaśa saṃvatsarān ekādaśa nava sapta pañca trīn saṃvatsarān ṣaṇmāsān caturo māsān dvau māsau māsaṃ vā vrataṃ caret tasyopadeśāt pratipattir avasānaṃ ca tasya nitye 'dhibrahmacaryaṃ triṣavaṇam abhiṣeka utsannaśayyā āsanaṃ ca yan mātur duścaritaṃ tasmād enaṃ trāyata ity upadiśati mantrabrāhmaṇaṃ veda ity ācakṣate aṣṭācatvāriṃśatsaṃmitaṃ sammitam ity ācakṣate tasya saṃkṣepaḥ saṃvatsaraḥ tat saṃvatsaram anuvyākhyāsyāmaḥ sa yadi brahmacārī syān niyamam eva pratipadyate atha yady abrahmacārī syāt keśaśmaśrulomanakhāni vāpayitvā tīrthaṃ gatvā snātvāpa ācamya surabhimatyābliṅgābhir vāruṇībhir hiraṇyavarṇābhiḥ pāvamānībhir vyāhṛtibhir iti mārjayitvāntarjalagato 'ghamarṣaṇena ṣoḍaśa prāṇāyāmān dhārayitvottīrya vāsaḥ pīḍayitvānyat prayataṃ vāsaḥ paridhāyāpa ācamya devayajanam udānayati atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛty āgnimukhāt kṛtvāthāvratyaprāyaścittaṃ juhoti nāhaṃ karomi kāmaḥ karoti kāmaḥ kartā kāmaḥ kārayitaitat te kāma kāmāya svāhā nāhaṃ karomi manyuḥ karoti manyuḥ kartā manyuḥ kārayitaitat te manyo manyave svāhā iti atha yathopadeśaṃ pradhānāhutīr juhoti svāhā vāyo vratapate 'ṣṭācatvāriṃśatsaṃmitaṃ sammitaṃ vrataṃ cariṣyāmi tacchakeyaṃ tanme rādhyatāṃ svāhā āditya vratapate 'ṣṭācatvāriṃśatsaṃmitaṃ sammitaṃ vrataṃ cariṣyāmi tacchakeyaṃ tanme rādhyatāṃ triṣavaṇam udakam upaspṛśan anagnipakvavṛttir acchāyopayogo nāgāraṃ praviśed anyatra guruniyogāt bhaikṣaṃ vā tatkālaṃ bhuñjīta kāmaṃ kandamūlaphalam aparāhṇe prasiddham upaspṛśya tad api nopayuñjīta strīśūdrapatitarabhasarajasvalābhiś ca na sambhāṣeta kāmaṃ mātaram upādhyāyinīṃ bhaginīṃ ca yāś cānyā evaṃyuktāḥ striyo 'śaktāḥ parākrame sapraṇavā vyāhṛtayaḥ prāṇāyāmāgnīndhanabhaikṣācaraṇasthānāsanaśayanopasparśanasumanasonivedanāni ca sarvāḥ sammitadevatās tarpayati brahmāṇaṃ tarpayāmi prajāpatiṃ tarpayāmi parameṣṭhinaṃ tarpayāmi sthāṇuṃ tarpayāmi śivaṃ tarpayāmi śarvaṃ tarpayāmi bahurūpaṃ tarpayāmi skandaṃ tarpayāmi indraṃ tarpayāmi yamaṃ tarpayāmi ṛṣīṃs tarpayāmi pitṝṃs tarpayāmi sarvāḥ sammitadevatās tarpayāmi iti prasaṃkhyāya samāpnuyāt guroḥ samānavṛttiṣu guruvṛttiḥ syāt preṣitas tad eva pratipadyetānyatra pātakāt evaṃ dvādaśa saṃvatsarān ekādaśa nava sapta pañca trīn saṃvatsarān ṣaṇ māsān caturo māsān dvau māsau māsaṃ vā vrataṃ caret api vā yo 'nūcānaḥ śrotriyaḥ sa dvādaśarātraṃ parākaṃ vā vrataṃ caren na tv evāsaṃmitī syāt sa eṣa carati daśa pūrvān daśāparān ātmānaṃ caikaviṃśatiṃ paṅktiṃ ca punāti yasmā upadiśati yasyām upaviśati yasmai dadāti yasmāc ca pratigṛhṇāti tat sarvaṃ punāti vratasamāptau vedasamāptau vā gurudakṣiṇām āhared dhārmiko yathāśakti viṣamagate tv ācārya ugrataḥ śūdrato vāharet sarvato vogrataḥ śūdrato 'py ācāryārthaṃ syād āharaṇaṃ dhārmyam ity eke etena dhātrantaraśaivabahurūpapārṣadaskandendrāṇāṃ vratānāṃ samāpanaṃ brahmābhyased ṛksāma yajur vā chandasām anusavanaṃ labheta kāmam iti ha smāha bodhāyanaḥ athāto 'vāntaradīkṣāṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ udagayana āpūryamāṇapakṣe puṇye nakṣatre keśaśmaśru vāpayitvā pūrvavad upākṛtya grāmāt prācīṃ vodīcīṃ vā diśām upaniṣkramyākhale 'chadirdarśe 'gnim upasamādhāya saṃparistīrya madantīr adhiśritya prathamenānuvākena śāntiṃ kṛtvā darbhaiḥ pravargyadevatābhyaḥ āsanāni kalpayati agreṇāgniṃ pravargyāya kalpayāmi gharmāya kalpayāmi mahāvīrāya kalpayāmi saṃrājñe kalpayāmīti dakṣiṇenāgniṃ brahmaṇe kalpayāmi prajāpataye kalpayāmīti uttareṇāgniṃ ṛṣibhyo mantrakṛdbhyo mantrapatibhyaḥ kalpayāmi devebhyo gharmapebhyaḥ kalpayāmīti atha dakṣiṇataḥ prācīnāvītī pitṛbhyo 'gharmapebhyaḥ kalpayāmi yamāyāṅgirasvate pitṛmate kalpayāmīti athāpa upaspṛśyottarato yajñopavītī rudrāya rudrahotre kalpayāmīti pradakṣiṇam agniṃ pariṣicya vyāhṛtibhir vaikaṅkatīḥ samidho 'bhyādhāya madantībhiḥ pravargyadevatābhyas tarpayati agreṇāgniṃ pravargyaṃ tarpayāmi mahāvīraṃ tarpayāmi saṃrājaṃ tarpayāmīti dakṣiṇenāgniṃ brahmāṇaṃ tarpayāmi prajāpatiṃ tarpayāmīti uttareṇāgnim ṛṣīn mantrakṛto mantrapatīn tarpayāmi devān gharmapāṃs tarpayāmīti atha dakṣiṇataḥ prācīnāvītī pitṝn gharmapān tarpayāmi yamam aṅgirasvantaṃ pitṛmantaṃ tarpayāmīti athāpa pariṣicya vyāhṛtibhir vaikaṅkatīḥ samidho 'bhyādhāya madantībhiḥ pravargyadevatābhyas tarpayitvottamenānuvākena śāntiṃ kṛtvāthāstamita āditye grāmam āyānti vāgyatas tiṣṭhed etāṃ rātrim upaviśet saṃveśayed vā atha prātar udita āditye grāmāt prācīṃ vodīcīṃ vā diśam upaniṣkramyākhale 'chadirdarśe 'gnim upasamādhāya saṃparistīrya madantīr adhiśritya prathamenānuvākena śāntiṃ kṛtvā darbhaiḥ pravargyadevatābhya āsanāni kalpayitvā vayaḥ suparṇāḥ iti vāso vimucyāthāsya ṣaṭtayam abhinidarśayati agnim apa ādityaṃ gāṃ brāhmaṇaṃ hiraṇyamiti trīn ādito darśayitvā yathopapādam itarāṇi darśayitvā pradakṣiṇam agniṃ pariṣicya vyāhṛtibhir vaikaṅkatīḥ samidho 'bhyādhāya madantībhiḥ pravargyadevatābhyas tarpayitvottamenānuvākena śāntiṃ kṛtvāthāsya vratacaryām upadiśet na yānam ārohen na vṛkṣam adhirohen na kūpam avarohen na chatraṃ dhārayīta nopānahau dhārayīta nāsandyāṃ śayīta na striyā na śūdreṇa saha sambhāṣeta yadi sambhāṣeta brāhmaṇena saha sambhāṣeta na sāyaṃ bhuñjīta yadi sāyaṃ bhuñjītāpajvalitaṃ bhuñjīta na snāyād aṣṭamyāṃ parvaṇi copavaset tad ahaś ca snāyād vāgyatas tiṣṭhed etāṃ rātrim upaviśet saṃveśayed vā amedhyalohitaśavapātradarśane jyotiṣāṃ saṃdarśanam amedhyaṃ dṛṣṭvā japati abaddhaṃ mano daridraṃ cakṣuḥ sūryo jyotiṣāṃ śreṣṭho dīkṣe mā mā hāsīḥ iti atha yady enam abhivarṣati undatīr balaṃ dhatta mā me dīkṣāṃ mā tapo nirvadhiṣṭa ity eva tatra japati saṃvatsaram etad vrataṃ caret saṃvatsaraṃ hi vrataṃ nātītyaitasmiṃs tv evaitat saṃvatsare 'dhīyīta yady u vaitasmin saṃvatsare nādhīyīta yāvadadhyayanam etad vrataṃ caret saṃvatsare paryavete 'dhyāpayate śrāvayate vā pūrvavad upākṛtya grāmāt prācīṃ vodīcīṃ vā diśam upaniṣkramyākhale 'chadirdarśe 'gnim upasamādhāya saṃparistīrya madantīr adhiśritya prathamenānuvākena śāntiṃ kṛtvā darbhaiḥ pravargyadevatābhya āsanāni kalpayitvāthāvratyaprāyaścitte juhoti yan ma ātmano mindābhūt punar agniś cakṣur adāt iti dvābhyām pradakṣiṇam agniṃ pariṣicya vyāhṛtibhir vaikaṅkatīḥ samidho 'bhyādhāya madantībhiḥ pravargyadevatābhyaḥ tarpayitvā catasra audumbarīḥ samidho 'pariśuṣkāgrā ghṛtābhyaktā abhyādhāpayan vācayati dyauḥ samid ity etaiḥ pratimantram atha devatā upatiṣṭhate āditya vratapate śukriyaṃ vratam acāriṣaṃ tad aśakaṃ tan me rādhi vāyo vratapate śukriyaṃ vratam acāriṣaṃ tad aśakaṃ tan me rādhi agne vratapate śukriyaṃ vratam acāriṣaṃ tad aśakaṃ tan me rādhi vratānāṃ vratapate śukriyaṃ vratam acāriṣaṃ tad aśakaṃ tan me rādhi iti pradakṣiṇam agniṃ pariṣicya vyāhṛtibhir vaikaṅkatīḥ samidho 'thābhyādhāya madantībhiḥ pravargyadevatābhyaḥ tarpayitvottamenānuvākena śāntiṃ kṛtvāthāsyādhyāye 'nadhyāyān upadiśet nādhīyītāstamita āditye nānudite nānuviproṣite na paryāvṛtte nābhracchāyāyāṃ na grāmyasya paśor ante nāraṇyasya nāpām ante na haritayavān prekṣamāṇo na harmyāṇi na śarīrāṇi na lohitam utpāditaṃ dṛṣṭvā na māṃsam aśitvā na śrāddhaṃ bhuktvā na keśaśmaśru vāpayitvā na keśān prasārya na dato dhāvate nāṅkte nābhyaṅkte nārdro nārdreṇa vāsasā nārdrāyām iti atha svādhyāyam adhīyītāpareṇāgniṃ darbheṣv āsīno darbhān dhārayamāṇaḥ parācīnaṃ svādhyāyam adhīyīta punar eva śāntiṃ kṛtvādhīyīta atha yadi laukikam anuvyāhared yatra kvacid yady aśāntikṛtaṃ paśyet punar eva śāntiṃ kṛtvādhīyīta cottamena pravargyāyopaniṣkramya nāpraviśya kāmam anyad adhīyītānyad adhīyīta prahutānukṛtir vāstuśamanam sa yatra daśoṣitvā prayāsyan bhavati daśabhyo vordhvaṃ sadāraḥ sāgnihotrikas tad vāstoṣpatīyaṃ hutvā prayātīti sarva evāhitāgnir ityeke yāyāvara ity eke yaccāgāraṃ kārayitvā prathamam adhyavasyet tad vāstoṣpatīyena śamayitvādhyavasyet tad u haike yajuṣā sthūṇā ucchrayanti yajuṣā vaṃśān yajuṣā chadīṃṣi yajuṣābbhriṇaṃ yajuṣā talpadeśaṃ yajuṣā vāstumadhyaṃ yajuṣāgninidhānam sa yady u haivaṃ kuryād yathā yajuṣocchriyante sadasyarksāmayajūṃṣy ātharvaṇāny āṅgirasāni mithunīsaṃbhavantīti tad yad adhyavasyed yathā mithunīsaṃbhavantāv adhyavasyet tādṛk tad yadyajuṣkṛtaṃ syāt ādhayo vyādhayo grahā upasargāś cāhanyuḥ tasmāt tūṣṇīm agāraṃ kārayitvā dvāradeśam alaṃkṛtya vāstumadhyaṃ vimāyābbhriṇaṃ pūrayitvā talpadeśaṃ kalpayitvottarapūrvadeśe 'gārasya gṛhyāgnim upasamādhāya saṃparistīryāgnimukhāt kṛtvā pakvāj juhoti vāstoṣpate pratijānīhy asmān iti puronuvākyām anūcya vāstoṣpate śagmayā saṃsadā te iti yājyayā juhoti athājyāhutīr upajuhoti vāstoṣpate dhruvā sthūṇāṃ satraṃ somyānām drapso bhettā purāṃ śaśvatīnām indro munīnāṃ sakhā svāhā gṛhyaṃ bhayaṃ yacced dvipātsu yad u ceccatuṣpātsu bhayaṃ yad asti agnir yaviṣṭhyaḥ praṇudatu tad bhayaṃ śaṃ naḥ prajābhyaḥ śam u naḥ paśubhyaḥ svāhā akṣispande 'ṅgacale ca yad bhayaṃ yad vāśite yad u ced durukte agnir yaviṣṭhyaḥ praṇudatu tad bhayaṃ śaṃ naḥ prajābhyaḥ śam u naḥ paśubhyaḥ svāhā duḥsvapne pāpasvapne ca yad bhayaṃ svapnāśanaṃ yad amedhyadarśane agnir yaviṣṭhyaḥ praṇudatu tad bhayaṃ śaṃ naḥ prajābhyaḥ śam u naḥ paśubhyaḥ svāhā vāstoṣpate prataraṇo na edhi gayasphāno gobhir aśvebhir indo ajarāsas te sakhye syāma piteva putrān prati no juṣasva svāhā amīvahā vāstoṣpate viśvā rūpāṇy āviśan sakhā suśeva edhi naḥ svāhā iti sviṣṭakṛtprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athāgreṇāgniṃ darbhastambeṣu hutaśeṣaṃ nidadhāti namo rudrāya vāstoṣpataye āyane vidrāvaṇe udyāne yatparāyaṇe āvartane nivartane yo gopāyati taṃ huve iti sthālīsaṃkṣālanam ājyaśeṣam udakaśeṣaṃ ca pātryāṃ samānīyaudumbaraśākhayā palāśaśākhayā śamīśākhayā darbhamuṣṭinā vā sarvataḥ paryukṣan triḥ pradakṣiṇam agāraṃ paryeti tvaṃ vipraḥ tvaṃ kaviḥ tvaṃ viśvā rūpāṇi dhārayan apa janyaṃ bhayaṃ nuda iti annaṃ saṃskṛtya brāhmaṇān sampūjyāśiṣo vācayitvā śivaṃ vāstu śivaṃ vāstv iti vāstuśamanaṃ vyākhyātam atha yady agāre sthūṇā virohet kapoto vāgāramadhye 'dhipatet vāyaso vā gṛhaṃ praviśet gaur vā gāṃ dhayet gaur ātmānaṃ pratidhayet anaḍvān vā divam ullikhet anagnau vā dhūmo jāyeta anagnau vā dīpyeta madhu vā jāyeta valmīkaṃ vopajāyeta niryāsaṃ vopajāyeta chatrākaṃ vopajāyeta maṇḍūko vābbhriṇe vāśayet śvānaprasūto vā sarpo vā gṛhapatiṃ jāyāṃ vopatapadvindetānyeṣu adbhutotpāteṣu atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛty āgnimukhāt kṛtvā pakvāj juhoti yata indra bhayāmahe svastidā viśaspatiḥ iti dvābhyām athājyāhutīr upajuhoti vāstoṣpate vāstoṣpate śaṃ no devīḥ indrāgnī rocanā kayā naś citra ā bhuvat ko adya yuṅkte bhavataṃ naḥ samanasau iti sviṣṭakṛtprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athāpareṇāgniṃ śamīparṇeṣu hutaśeṣaṃ nidadhāti śaṃ no devīr abhiṣṭaye iti sthālīsaṃkṣālanam ājyaśeṣam udakaśeṣaṃ ca pātryāṃ samānīya teṣūtpāteṣu ninayet prokṣed vā tacchaṃyor āvṛṇīmahe iti annaṃ saṃskṛtya brāhmaṇān sampūjyāśiṣo vācayitvā śivaṃ śivam iti prokṣati adbhuto vyākhyātaḥ āhutānukṛtir āyuṣyacaruḥ saṃvatsare saṃvatsare ṣaṭsu ṣaṭsu māseṣu caturṣu caturṣu ṛtāvṛtau māsi māsi vā kumārasya janmanakṣatre kriyeta atha devayajanollekhanaprabhṛty ā praṇītābhyaḥ kṛtvā vrīhīn nirvapati agnaya āyuṣmate vo juṣṭaṃ nirvapāmi iti tūṣṇīṃ vā dhānyān nirvapati prāṇāya vo juṣṭaṃ nirvapāmi iti tūṣṇīṃ vā tān abhyukṣyāvahatya triḥ phalīkṛtya triḥ prakṣālya nidadhāti taṇḍulān vā nirvapati tān abhyukṣya triḥ prakṣālyaiva nidadhātīti atha tiraḥ pavitraṃ sthālyām apaḥ payo vānīyādhiśritya tiraḥ pavitraṃ taṇḍulān āvapati athājyaṃ nirvapaty athājyam adhiśrayaty ubhayaṃ paryagnikṛtvā mekṣaṇaṃ sruvaṃ ca saṃmārṣṭi athaitaṃ caruṃ śrapayitvābhighāryodañcam udvāsya pratiṣṭhitam abhighārayati evam eva sarveṣāṃ sthālīpākānāṃ carukalpaḥ paridhānaprabhṛty āgnimukhāt kṛtvā pakvāj juhoti āyuṣ ṭe viśvato dadhat iti puronuvākyām anūcya āyurdā agne haviṣo juṣāṇaḥ iti yājyayā juhoti athājyāhutīr upajuhoty athāntareṇāgniṃ cājyasthālīṃ ca sthālīpākaṃ nidhāya tat sahasraṃ sampātābhihutaṃ karoti yo brahma brahmaṇa ujjabhāra prāṇeśvaraḥ kṛttivāsāḥ pinākī īśāno devaḥ sa na āyur dadhātu tasmai juhomi haviṣā ghṛtena svāhā vibhrājamānaḥ sarirasya madhyād rocamāno gharmarucir ya āgāt sa mṛtyupāśād apanudya ghorād ihāyuṣeṇo ghṛtam attu devaḥ svāhā brahmajyotir brahmapatnīṣu garbhaṃ yam ādadhāt pururūpaṃ jayantam suvarṇaraṃ bhagnahamarkamarcaṃ tam āyuṣe vardhayāmo ghṛtena svāhā śriyaṃ lakṣmīm aupalām ambikāṃ gāṃ ṣaṣṭhīṃ jayām indrasenety udāhuḥ tāṃ vidyāṃ brahmayoniṃ sarūpām ihāyuṣe tarpayāmo ghṛtena svāhā dākṣāyaṇyaḥ sarvayonyaḥ sayonyaḥ sahasraśo viśvarūpā virūpāḥ sasūnavaḥ sapatayaḥ sayūthyā ihāyuṣeṇo ghṛtam idaṃ juṣantāṃ svāhā divyā gaṇā bahurūpāḥ purāṇā āyuśchido naḥ pramathantu vīrān tebhyo juhomi bahudhā ghṛtena mā naḥ prajāṃ ririṣo mota vīrān svāhā ekaḥ purastād ya idaṃ babhūva yato babhūvur bhuvanasya gopāḥ yam apyeti bhuvanaṃ sāmparāye sa no havir ghṛtam ihāyuṣe 'ttu devaḥ svāhā vasūn rudrān ādityān maruto 'tha sādhyān ṛbhūn yakṣān gandharvāṃś ca pitṝṃś ca viśvān bhṛgūn sarpāṃś cāṅgiraso 'tha sarvān ghṛtaṃ hutvā svāyuṣy āmahayāma śaśvat svāhā ṣaḍviṃśatiśatakṛtvas tad āhutīnāṃ aṣṭasahasraṃ sampadyate itarasmāt pakvāt sauviṣṭakṛtaṃ juhoti jayaprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athāgreṇāgniṃ dūrvāstambeṣu hutaśeṣaṃ nidadhāti mā no mahāntaṃ mā nas toke iti dvābhyām apareṇāgniṃ prāṅmukha upaviśya vāgyataḥ sthālīpākaṃ sagaṇaḥ prāśnāti tasya prāśanamantraḥ āyur asi viśvāyur asi sarvāyur asi sarvam āyur asi sarvaṃ ma āyur bhūyāt sarvam āyur geṣam iti prāśyāpa ācamya jaṭharam abhimṛśati yata indra bhayāmahe svastidā viśaspatiḥ iti dvābhyām kumārāṇāṃ grahagṛhītānāṃ jvaragṛhītānāṃ bhūtopasṛṣṭānāṃ āyuṣyeṇa ghṛtasūktenāhar ahaḥ svastyayanārthaṃ svādhyāyam adhīyītaitair eva mantrair āhutīr juhuyād etair eva mantrair balīn hared agado haiva bhavati tad etad ṛddham ayanaṃ bhūtopasṛṣṭānāṃ rāṣṭrabhṛtaḥ pañcacoḍāḥ sarpāhutir gandharvāhutir ahar ahaḥ svastyayanārthaṃ svādhyāyam adhīyītaitair eva mantrair āhutīr juhuyāt etair eva mantrair balīn hared agado haiva bhavati tad etad ṛddham ayanaṃ hutaprahutānukṛtayo 'nye homāḥ baliharaṇānukṛtīny abhyarcanāny āśramānukṛtayaḥ saṃśrayā iti athāto 'rdhamāse 'rdhamāse 'ṣṭamyāṃ brāhmaṇā brahmacāriṇastriyaś cāhar upavasanti atha pradoṣe rudraṃ virūpākṣaṃ sapatnīkaṃ sasutaṃ sagaṇaṃ sapārṣatkam āvāhayāmi ity āvāhya gandhapuṣpadhūpadīpair abhyarcya pratipuruṣaṃ paiṣṭikān dīpān ekātiriktāṃś catasro 'ṣṭau vā devasyāyatane pratidiśaṃ pradyotayati uddīpyasva jātavedaḥ mā no hiṃsīt iti dvābhyām havyavāham abhimātiṣāhaṃ sviṣṭam agne abhi iti dvābhyāṃ ca athopasamiddham agniṃ kṛtvā yad aśanīyasya juhoti imā rudrāya sthiradhanvane giraḥ iti ṣaḍbhir anucchandasaṃ mā no mahāntaṃ mā nas toke iti dvābhyāṃ vāstoṣpate vāstoṣpate iti dvābhyāṃ ārdrayā rudraḥ hetī rudrasya iti dvābhyāṃ dvādaśa sampadyante dvādaśa māsāḥ saṃvatsaraḥ saṃvatsara eva pratitiṣṭhati iti brāhmaṇam samidho vābhyādadhātīti vijñāyate vaiṣṇavā vai vanaspatayaḥ viṣṇoḥ sāyujyaṃ salokatām āpnoti stutibhiḥ stunvanti brahma vai brahmā brahmaṇaḥ sāyujyaṃ salokatām āpnoti sarvaṃ pāpmānaṃ tarati tarati brahmahatyām apa punarmṛtyuṃ jayatīty āha bhagavān bodhāyanaḥ baliharaṇānukṛtir utsargaḥ taiṣyāṃ paurṇamāsyāṃ kriyetāpi vā māghyām sahāntevāsibhir grāmāt prācīṃ vodīcīṃ vā diśam upaniṣkramya yatrāpaḥ sutīrthāḥ sūpāvagāhāḥ sravantyaḥ svavakinyaḥ śaṅkhinyas tāsām antaṃ gatvā snātvāpa ācamya surabhimatyābliṅgābhir vāruṇībhir hiraṇyavarṇābhiḥ pāvamānībhir iti mārjayitvāntarjalagato 'ghamarṣaṇena trīn prāṇāyāmān dhārayitvottīrya vāsaḥ pīḍayitvānyat prayataṃ vāsaḥ paridhāyāpa ācamyāpāṃ samīpe sthaṇḍilāni kṛtvā darbhān anyonyasmai sampradāya darbhair āsanāni kalpayanti brahmaṇe kalpayāmi prajāpataye bṛhaspataye agnaye vāyave sūryāya candramase nakṣatrebhyaḥ ṛtubhyaḥ saṃvatsarāya indrāya rājñe yamāya rājñe varuṇāya rājñe somāya rājñe vaiśravaṇāya rājñe vasubhyaḥ rudrebhyaḥ ādityebhyaḥ viśvebhyo devebhyaḥ sādhyebhyo devebhyaḥ marudbhyaḥ ṛbhubhyaḥ bhṛgubhyaḥ atharvabhyo 'ṅgirobhyaḥ viśvāmitrāya jamadagnaye jāmadagnyāya bharadvājāya gautamāya ātreyāya vasiṣṭhāya kāśyapāya arundhatyai kalpayāmīti atha dakṣiṇataḥ agastyāya kalpayāmīti athottarataḥ nivītinaḥ kṛṣṇadvaipāyanāya jātukarṇyāya tarukṣāya tṛṇabindave somaśuṣmiṇe somaśuṣmāyaṇāya vājine vājaśravase bṛhadukthāya varmiṇe vajriṇe varūthāya sanatkumārāya vāmadevāya vājiratnāya vīrajitāya haryaśvāya udameghāya ṛṇaṃjayāya tṛṇaṃjayāya kṛtaṃjayāya dhanañjayāya satyañjayāya babhrave tryaruṇāya trivarṣāya tridhātave aśvajñāya parāśarāya mṛtyave kartre vikartre sukartre tvaṣṭre dhātre vidhātre suśravase sutaśravase satyaśravase savitre sāvitryai chandobhyaḥ ṛgvedāya yajurvedāya sāmavedāya atharvavedāya atharvāṅgirobhyaḥ itihāsapurāṇebhyaḥ sarpadevajanebhyaḥ sarvabhūtebhyaḥ atha dakṣiṇataḥ prācīnāvītino vaiśampāyanāya phaliṅgave tittiraye ukhāyokhyāya ātreyāya padakārāya kauṇḍinyāya vṛttikārāya kaṇvāya bodhāyanāya pravacanakārāyāpastambāya sūtrakārāya satyāṣāḍhāya hiraṇyakeśāya vājasaneyāya yājñavalkyāya bharadvājāyāgniveśyāyācāryebhya ūrdhvaretobhyo vānaprasthebhyaḥ vaṃśasthebhyaḥ ekapatnībhyaḥ kalpayāmīti atha yathāsvayaṃ pitṛbhyaḥ kalpayanti mātāmahebhyaś ca pṛthak pṛthag etair eva nāmadheyair gandhapuṣpadhūpadīpair amuṣmai namo 'muṣmai nama iti annenāmuṣmai svāhāmuṣmai svāheti phalodakenāmuṃ tarpayāmy amuṃ tarpayāmīti trīn ādito 'nuvākān adhīyīran kāṇḍādīn vā sarvān kāṇḍāt kāṇḍāt prarohantī yā śatena pratanoṣi iti dvābhyām upodake dūrvām āropayante 'thādhīpsante 'nyonyam amuṣmā amuṣmā iti athāvagāhya samparigṛhyormimantam udadhiṃ kṛtvā trir udyutyā tamitor ājiṃ dhāvanti pratyetya gṛhān atha brāhmaṇān tarpayanty apūpair dhānābhiḥ saktubhir odaneneti yady u vaitebhyo bhavati tryaham ekāhaṃ vā nādhīyīran māsaṃ pradoṣe nādhīyeran nityaṃ caiva vidyutstanitavarṣāṇām ekasmin dvayor vā kāle triṣannipāte tryaham yathopākṛtau chandasām evam evam utsṛṣṭau kalpānām evam eva pārāyaṇasamāptau kāṇḍādidūrvāropaṇodadhidhāvanavarjam baliharaṇānukṛtir eva sarpabaliḥ saṃvatsare saṃvatsare ṣaṭsu ṣaṭsu māseṣu caturṣu caturṣu ṛtāv ṛtau māsi māsi vā varṣāsv āśreṣāsu kriyeta apāṃ samīpe valmīkāgreṇa vā pacanam gandhodakair dūrvodakaiś cābhyukṣya citrāḥ sumanasaḥ saṃprakīrya yavapiṣṭāni vrīhipiṣṭāni śyāmākapiṣṭāni vājyenekṣurasena vā paktvā pāyasaṃ ghṛtapakvāṃś ca apūpānodanaṃ dhānāḥ saktūn karambhān lājān ity upakiranti namo astu sarpebhyaḥ iti tisṛbhir anucchandasam sarpebhyaḥ svāhāśreṣābhyaḥ svāhā dandaśūkebhyaḥ svāhā iti trayaḥ svāhākārāḥ jīrvaro grahapatir adhvaryur dhṛtarāṣṭra airāvato brahmadattas tāpaso hotā pṛthuśravā dūreśravā udgātā glāvaś cājagaraś ca prastotā pratihartā śitipṛṣṭho maitrāvaruṇaḥ takṣako vaiśālakir brāhmaṇācchaṃsy upanītis tārkṣyaḥ sadasyaḥ śikhātiśikhau neṣṭāpotārau vāruṇo hotācchāvākaścakraḥ piśaṅga āgnīdhraś cāhiro maheyaḥ subrahmaṇyo 'rbudo grāvastut sāṇḍa unnetā paśago dhruvagopaḥ kaustuko dhurimejayaśca janamejayaś cety etair eva nāmadheyaiḥ samīcī nāmāsi prācī dik iti ṣaḍbhiḥ paryāyaiḥ hetayo nāma stha teṣāṃ vaḥ puro gṛhāḥ iti ṣaḍbhiḥ idaṃ sarpebhyo havir astu juṣṭam iti copasthānam trivṛtānnena brāhmaṇān sampūjya āśiṣo vācayitvā vyākhyātaḥ sarpabalir vyākhyātaḥ sarpabaliḥ atheme devate prabādhinyāv udvāhakāle yakṣyatamyau bhavatas tayos tad upakᄆptaṃ bhavati yat sarpabalau apāṃ samīpe dve strīpratikṛtī kṛtya gandhair mālyena cālaṃkṛtyaivam evābhyarcayati tayor arcanamantraḥ te sūnavaḥ svapasaḥ sudaṃsaso mahī jajñur mātarā pūrvacittaye sthātuś ca satyaṃ jagataś ca dharmaṇi putrasya pāthaḥ padam advayāvinaḥ te māyino mamire supracetaso jāmī sayonī mithunā samokasā navyaṃ navyaṃ tantum ātanvate divi samudre antaḥ kavayaḥ sudītayaḥ iti athaite upasaṃgṛhya pārśve dattvā pravāhya trivṛtānnena brāhmaṇān sampūjyāśiṣo vācayitvā vyākhyāto yakṣībaliḥ aṣṭakānukṛtir māsikaṃ tat purastād vyākhyātam athābhyudayikeṣu pradakṣiṇam upacāro yajñopavītaṃ prāgagrān darbhān yugmān brāhmaṇān yavais tilārthaḥ pṛṣadājyaṃ haviḥ sopayāmena pātreṇa nāndīmukhāḥ pitaraḥ prīyantām ity apāṃ pratigrahaṇaṃ visarjanaṃ ca nāndīmukhebhyaḥ pitṛbhyaḥ svāhety agnaukaraṇam anudeśanam āśayeṣu parisamūḍheṣu prāgagreṣu darbheṣu pṛṣadājyenānupradānaṃ sarvaṃ dvir dvir iti athaikoddiṣṭeṣu nāgnaukaraṇaṃ nābhiśrāvaṇaṃ na pūrvaṃ nimantraṇaṃ na daivaṃ na dhūpaṃ na dīpaṃ na svadhā na namaskāro nātrāpūpam sarvaṃ siddhaṃ samānīyāyugmān brāhmaṇān suprakṣālitapāṇipādān apa ācamayya sadarbhopakᄆpteṣv āsaneṣūpaveśya sarvasmāt sakṛt sakṛt samavadāyābhighārya dakṣiṇato bhasmamiśrān aṅgārān nirūhya teṣu juhuyāt pretāyāmuṣmai yamāya ca svāhā iti taddhutam ahutaṃ ca bhavati amuṣmai tṛptir astv ity apāṃ pratigrahaṇaṃ visarjanaṃ ca amuṣmā upatiṣṭhatv ity anudeśanam āśayeṣv eva piṇḍadānaṃ tṛpyasveti saṃkṣālanaṃ tṛptir astv iti visarjanam astu tṛptir itītareṣāṃ prativacanam pretasya dvitīyāprabhṛti brāhmaṇabhojanair ekottaravṛddhir ā daśāhāt atra navaṃ vicchidyeta ekādaśyāṃ śrāddhaṃ tṛtīye pakṣe dvitīyaṃ saṃtatam ekaikenaikādaśa māsān nayanti na dvādaśamāsam abhyārohanti saṃvatsare sapiṇḍīkaraṇaṃ sāgnaukaraṇaṃ sābhiśrāvaṇaṃ sapūrvaṃ sadaivaṃ sadhūpaṃ sadīpaṃ sasvadhā sanamaskāraṃ sāpūpam athāpyudāharanti ekoddiṣṭe navaśrāddhe nāgnaukaraṇam iṣyate na cābhiśrāvaṇaṃ kuryān na ca pūrvaṃ tu kārayet praṇāmaṃ ca na kurvīta svadhākāraṃ tathaiva ca ūrdhvaṃ saṃvatsarāt pretaḥ pitṛtvam upapadyate itīn nvā imā anukṛtayo vyākhyātāḥ athartusaṃveśanādi janmaprabhṛti vā kumāraḥ kriyābhiluptaḥ syād upanayanaṃ caikaṃ syāt tāsāṃ pṛthak pṛthak kriyāṇāṃ karaṇaṃ na caikahome sarvāṇi karmāṇy upapādayet yady ekahome sarvāṇi karmāṇy upapādayet pradhānādau dve dve mindāhutī juhuyāt mindāhutī hutvā jayān abhyātānān rudrāhutyante ca vijñāyate rudro vai krūro devānāṃ so 'sya tuṣṭaḥ prīto bhavati iti sarvatra chedanabhedanakhanananirasanapitṛrākṣasanairṛtaraudrābhicaraṇīyeṣv apa upaspṛśed iti vijñāyate āpo vai śāntāḥ śāntābhir evāsya śucaṃ śamayati iti brāhmaṇam ā ṣoḍaśāt brāhmaṇasyānātyaya ity ā dvāviṃśāt kṣatriyasyā caturviṃśād vaiśyasyāta ūrdhvaṃ patitasāvitrīkā bhavanti nainān upanayeyur nādhyāpayeyur na vivaheyur na yājayeyuḥ tāṃs trivṛtā vrātyastomena yājayitvā vivāhayeyuḥ yac ca kiṃcit sagotrāṇāṃ sarveṣāṃ ca saśāntikam kanyānāṃ caiva janmādikartavyāḥ karmamaṅgalāḥ kriyāmayaṃ hi brāhmaṇyaṃ nākriyaṃ brahmocyate nākriyaṃ brahmocyata iti athartusaṃveśanādi aṣṭakānukṛtiḥ atheme devate baliharaṇānukṛtir eva sarpabaliḥ baliharaṇānukṛtir utsargaḥ athāto 'rdhamāse hutānukṛtir upākarma ācāryaprasūtaḥ karmāṇi karoti aṣṭācatvāriṃśatsaṃmitam athāto 'vāntaradīkṣāṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ prahutānukṛtir vāstuśamanam atha yady agāre sthūṇā virohet āhutānukṛtir āyuṣyacaruḥ athāto 'rdhamāse 'rdhamāse baliharaṇānukṛtir utsargaḥ baliharaṇānukṛtir eva sarpabaliḥ atheme devate aṣṭakānukṛtiḥ athartusaṃveśanādi athātaḥ saptapākayajñānāṃ prāyaścittāni vyākhyāsyāmaḥ tatrādita evopalipte śvā veṭako vā yadi gacchet kīṭo vā piṇḍakārī syāt tat punar upalipya prokṣati devasya tvā savituḥ prasave 'śvinor bāhubhyāṃ pūṣṇo hastābhyām agnes tejasā prokṣāmi iti prokṣya sthaṇḍilam upalipya sthaṇḍilam uddharet sthaṇḍilam uddhṛtaṃ gaur aśvo vā yadi vikired anyad vā śvāpadam adhitiṣṭhet tasya padam abhyukṣya japati pṛthivi devayajany oṣadhyās te mūlaṃ mā hiṃsiṣam iti atha kṛtāntena pratipadyate atha yadi praṇītāpātraṃ bhidyeta tad abhimantrayate abhinno gharmo jīradānur yata āttas tad agan punar iti athānyad āharati gharmo devān apyetu iti pūrayitvā vyāhṛtibhir upatiṣṭhate atha yadi praṇītāḥ praṇīyamānāḥ praṇītā vā parāsicyeraṃs tā abhimantrayate akṣito 'sy akṣityai tvā mā me kṣeṣṭhā amutrāmuṣmin loke iti pūrayitvopatiṣṭhate bhūr āyur me dhārayata prāṇaṃ me dhārayata prajāṃ me dhārayata paśūn me dhārayata mā ma āyuḥ prāṇāḥ prajāḥ paśavaḥ parāsicyeran iti atha yadi kanyopasādyamānā vohyamānā vā patet tām utthāpayeyuḥ udasthād devy aditir viśvarūpy āyur yajñapatāv adhāt indrāya kṛṇvatī bhāgaṃ mitrāya varuṇāya ca iti atha yadi kanyopasādyamānā vohyamānā vā rajasvalā syāt tām anumantrayate pumāṃsau mitrāvaruṇau pumāṃsāv aśvināv ubhau pumān indraśca sūryaś ca pumāṃsaṃ vardhayetām iti atha yadi kanyopasādyamānā vohyamānā vāśru kuryāt tām anumantrayate jīvāṃ rudanti vi mayante adhvare dīrghāmanu prasitiṃ dīdhiyurnaraḥ vāmaṃ pitṛbhyo ya idaṃ samerire mayaḥ patibhyo janayaḥ pariṣvaje iti sarvatra darvīkūrcaprastaraparidhibarhiḥpavitredhmadravyasambhārāṇāṃ ced dāhopaghāteṣu nāśe vināśe vānyaṃ yathāliṅgaṃ kṛtvā yathāliṅgam upasādya tvaṃ no agne sa tvaṃ no agne tvamagne ayāsi prajāpate ity etābhiḥ sruvāhutīr juhuyāt atha yadi paristaraṇadāhe agnaye kṣāmavate svāhā iti hutvā paristṛṇāti indraṃ vo viśvatas pari indraṃ naraḥ iti dvābhyāṃ paristīrya juhoti indrāya svāhā iti atha yadi paridhidāhe anyaṃ yathāliṅgam upasādya juhoti pari tvāgne puraṃ vayam iti atha vastrāṇāṃ prokṣitānāṃ ced dāhopaghāte nāśe vināśe anyat yathāliṅgaṃ kṛtvā yathāliṅgam upasādya juhoti sosāya svāhā iti atha sicābhighātaḥ syāt tad abhimantrayate sig asi nasi vajro 'si namas te astu mā mā hiṃsīḥ iti daśāsūtram ādāya mukhavātena pradhvaṃsayet atha yadi gaur vāśvo vā śvamṛgamahiṣameṣavarāhadaṃṣṭrāvanto vānyat śvāpadam apasavyaṃ gacchet tasya padam abhyukṣya japati tad viṣṇoḥ paramaṃ padam iti etenaiva raudram abhivyāhared vā raudryāv ṛcau juhuyāt japed vā tvam agne rudraḥ āvo rājānam iti atha yadi śakunam abhivyāharet tāṃ vācam anumantrayate dvipac catuṣpad asmākaṃ sarvam astv anāturam udgāteva śakune sāma gāyasi brahmaputra iva savaneṣu śaṃsasi svasti naḥ śakune astu prati naḥ sumanā bhava iti atha yadi sālāvṛkī vāśyeta tām anumantrayate dīrghamukhi durhaṇu mā sma dakṣiṇato vadaḥ yadi dakṣiṇato vadād dviṣantaṃ me 'vabādhāsai iti atha yady arthī syāt parikṣave parikāsane cāpa upaspṛśya japet anuhavaṃ parihavaṃ parīvādaṃ parikṣapaṃ duḥsvapnaṃ duruditaṃ tad dviṣadbhyo diśāmy aham anuhūtaṃ parihūtaṃ śakune yad aśākunaṃ mṛgasya sṛtam akṣṇayā tad dviṣadbhyo diśāmy aham iti atha nadīnāṃ dhanvanāṃ ca vyatikrame purastādupasthānaṃ japati yā oṣadhayo yā vanaspatayo yā nadyo yāni dhanvāni ye vanā te tvā vadhu prajāvatīṃ pra tve muñcantv aṃhasaḥ iti atha śakṛdvyatikrame purastād upasthānaṃ japati namaḥ śakṛtsade rudrāya namaḥ śakṛtsade gām arhasi namas te astu mā mā hiṃsīḥ iti atha tīrthasthāṇucatuṣpathavyatikrame purastād upasthānaṃ japati kṛtaṃ tīrthaṃ suprapāṇaṃ śubhaspatī sthāṇuṃ patheṣṭhām apa durmatiṃ hanat iti atha citriyāṇāṃ lakṣaṇānāṃ vyatikrame purastād upasthānaṃ japati ye devā yāśca devīr yeṣu vṛkṣeṣv āsate śriyā me śriyaṃ vṛddhiṃ vahantu mā mā hiṃsiṣur vahantu mohyamānām iti atha karmāntam eva pratipadyate sarvatra svayaṃ prajvalite 'gnau samidhāv ādadhāti uddīpyasva jātavedaḥ iti dvābhyām atha śmaśānādivyatikrame tam evāgnim upasamādhāya saṃparistīryāgnimukhāt kṛtvā pakvāj juhoti agnir bhūtānām adhipatiḥ sa māvatu svāhā indro jyeṣṭhānām adhipatiḥ sa māvatu svāhā iti sviṣṭakṛtprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athainan mithunam abhimantrayate idaṃ mithunam āyuṣmad astv idaṃ mithunaṃ prajāvad astv idaṃ mithunaṃ paśumad astv idaṃ mithunaṃ vīryavad astu iti atha ud u tyaṃ jātavedasam iti dakṣiṇam anaḍvāhaṃ yunakti citraṃ devānām udagād anīkam iti savyaṃ yuktvā prayātīti atha tīrthavyatikrame nāvā saṃtāraḥ syāt tām anumantrayate ayaṃ no mahyāḥ pāram etaṃ svasti neṣad vanaspatiḥ sīrā naḥ sutarā bhava dīrghāyutvāya varcase iti nāvā tarantīṃ vadhūṃ paśyati kūlam uttīrya japati samudrāya vayunāya sindhūnāṃ pataye namaḥ iti durgam adhvānaṃ vā prapādya jātavedase iti sahasreṇādityam upatiṣṭhate āsannabhaye chaladyūtavyavahāre rājakule vyasane baddho vā nirantaram upāṃśu japed etad eva duḥsvapneṣu śataṃ japed etad eva athābhyāghātaḥ syād agniś codvātaḥ syāt sarvaṃ tat apahatāḥ iti prokṣya sthaṇḍilam uddhṛtya tam evāgnim upasamādhāya saṃparistīryāgnimukhāt kṛtvā pakvāj juhoti ye devā yajñahano yajñamuṣaḥ iti tisṛbhir anucchandasam sviṣṭakṛtprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt atha yady akṣabhedaḥ syāt tam evāgnim upasamādhāya saṃparistīryāgnimukhāt kṛtvā pradhānāhutīr juhoti iha dhṛtiḥ svāheha vidhṛtiḥ svāheha rantiḥ svāheha ramatiḥ svāhā iti jayaprabhṛti siddham ā dhenuvarapradānāt athānyam akṣam āharati akṣito 'sy akṣityai tvā mā me kṣeṣṭhā amutrāmuṣmin loke iti athainaṃ rathe yojayati ātiṣṭha vṛtrahan ratham iti atha rathe mithunaṃ pratiṣṭhāpayati prati kṣatre prati tiṣṭhāmi rāṣṭre praty aśveṣu prati tiṣṭhāmi goṣu praty aṅgeṣu prati tiṣṭhāmy ātman prati prajāyāṃ prati tiṣṭhāmi bhavye iti pūrvavad anaḍvāhau yunakti atha mithunaṃ pratiṣṭhāpya prayātīti atha yadi balavatā samarathaḥ syāt pathād rathaṃ prasarpayati anṛṇā asminn anṛṇāḥ parasmiṃs tṛtīye loke anṛṇāḥ syāma ye devayānā uta pitṛyāṇāḥ sarvān patho anṛṇā ākṣīyema iti atha patham avasthāya yānāya japati mithunasya svastyayany asy api panthām agasmahi svasti gām anehasam yena viśvāḥ pari dviṣo vṛṇakti vindate vasu iti atha ratham abhipraiti pathas pathaḥ paripatim iti atha vidyutstanite saṃtrāsaḥ syāt tam asyaindryāv ṛcau japati yata indra bhayāmahe svastidā viśaspatiḥ iti atha karmāntam eva pratipadyate atha pākayajñānāṃ prāyaścittiḥ tad yathā dravyahavirmantrakarmādīnām atipannaskannabhinnabhagnanaṣṭaduṣṭaviparītadagdhāśṛtyanikṛtānām anāmnāteṣu juhuyāt mano jyotiḥ ayāś cāgne yad asmin karmaṇi svasti na indro vṛddhaśravāḥ iti vyāhṛtibhiś ca vyāhṛtīnāṃ prayoge yathākṛtaṃ yathāvad bhavatīty ācāryā bruvate tatrodāharanti bhūr ity ṛco bhuva iti yajūṃṣi suvar iti sāmāni pravṛtte karmaṇi pradhānādau juhuyād iti bodhāyanaḥ pradhānānta iti śālikiḥ purastāt sviṣṭakṛta ity aupamanyavaḥ atha garbhādhānapuṃsavanasīmantonnayanaviṣṇubalijātakarmanāmakaraṇopaniṣkramaṇānnaprāśanacoḍopanayanādi kāryaṃ na kārayed iti samānaṃ karma tataṃ ma āpaḥ yat pākatrā manasvatī mindāhutī mahāvyāhṛtīḥ vyāhṛtayaś ca prāyaścittaṃ juhuyād iti kālātikrame pradhānādau dve dve mindāhutī juhuyād iti vyāhṛtipūrvakaṃ ceti sarveṣāṃ samānam ācāryā bruvate tatrodāharanti pakvaṃ vyāhṛtayaś ca prāyaścittaṃ juhuyād iti atha yady upanayanāgnir vivāhāgnir jātakāgniḥ smaśānāgnir ā caturthād ā daśāhād ā sañcayanād udvātaḥ syāt apahatā asurāḥ iti prokṣya kṣipraṃ bhasmasamārohaṇam ayaṃ te yonir ṛtviyaḥ iti samidhi samāropya laukikam agnim āhṛtya samidham ādadhāti ājuhvānaḥ udbudhyasvāgne iti dvābhyām saṃparistīrya prāyaścittaṃ juhoti ayāś cāgne pañcahotā brāhmaṇa ekahotā daśa manasvatīḥ mindāhutī mahāvyāhṛtīḥ vyāhṛtayaś ca prāyaścittaṃ juhuyād iti bodhāyanaḥ atha gṛhamedhino brahmacāriṇaś cānugate 'gnau kālātikrame homayor darśapūrṇamāsayoś cāgrayaṇenāniṣṭvā navānnaprāśanājyaskannāvadhūtahīnamantrādhikakarmaṇaś cākṛtasīmantāyāṃ prasūtāyāṃ bhāryāyāṃ strīṣu goṣu yamalajanane rajasvalābhigamane patitasambhāṣaṇe divāmaithune śūdrābhigamane svapnānte retaḥskandane udake mūtrapurīṣakaraṇe kumārasya jātasyāsaṃskāre 'kṛtāgnisaṃsarge devatāviparyāse mantraviparyāse karmaviparyāse brahmacāriṇaś ca vrataviparyāse mekhalāyajñopavītasyocchedane prāyaścittaṃ juhoti pāhi no agna enase svāhā pāhi no viśvavedase svāhā yajñaṃ pāhi vibhāvaso svāhā sarvaṃ pāhi śatakrato svāhā pāhi no agna ekayā pāhy uta dvitīyayā pāhi gīrbhis tisṛbhir ūrjāṃ pate pāhi catasṛbhir vaso svāhā iti purastāc copariṣṭāc ca sānukramaṇaṃ yathānupūrvakaraṇam avicchinnaṃ saṃtataṃ bhavatīti atha gṛhasthasya vidyārthinaḥ striyābhyanujñātasya ṛtusaṃveśanavicchedaprāyaścittaṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ vasanto grīṣmo varṣāḥ śaraddhemantaḥ śiśireṇartukālam uktvā brāhmaṇebhyo nivedayitvā cīrṇavratāntenātha pradoṣe devayajanam udānayati atha
