ājyam eva saṃskṛtyopaghātaṃ juhuyān nājyabhāgau na sviṣṭakṛt ājyāhutiṣv anādeśe purastāc copariṣṭācca mahāvyāhṛtibhir homaḥ yathā pāṇigrahaṇe tathā cūḍākarmaṇy upanayane godāne apavṛtte karmaṇi vāmadevyagānaṃ śāntyarthaṃ śāntyartham puṇye nakṣatre dārān kurvīta lakṣaṇa praśastān kuśalena tad alābhe piṇḍān vedyāḥ sītāyāḥ hradāt goṣṭhāt catuṣpathāt ādevanāt ādahanāt iriṇāt sarvebhyaḥ saṃbhāryam navamam samān kṛta lakṣaṇān pāṇau ādhāya kumāryai upanāmayet ṛtam eva prathamam ṛtam na atyeti kaścana ṛte iyam pṛthivī śritā sarvam idam asau bhūyāt iti tasyāḥ nāma gṛhītvā eṣām ekam gṛhāṇa iti brūyāt pūrveṣām caturṇām gṛhṇantīm upayacchet saṃbhāryam api tu eke klītakaiḥ yavaiḥ māṣaiḥ vā āplutām suhṛd surā uttamena sa śarīrām tris mūrdhani abhiṣiñcet kāma veda te nāma madaḥ nāma asi iti samānaya amum iti pati nāma gṛhṇīyāt svāhākāra antābhiḥ upastham uttarābhyām plāvayet jñāti karma etat pāṇigrahaṇe purastāt śālāyāḥ upalipte agniḥ upasamāhitaḥ bhavati atha janyānām ekaḥ dhruvāṇām apām kalaśam pūrayitvā saha uda kumbhaḥ prāvṛtaḥ vāgyataḥ agreṇa agnim parikramya dakṣiṇatas udak mukhaḥ avatiṣṭhate prājanena anyaḥ śamī palāśa miśrān ca lājān catur añjali mātrān śūrpeṇa upasādayanti paścāt agneḥ dṛṣatputram ca yasyāḥ pāṇim grahīṣyan bhavati sa śiraskā sā āplutā bhavati ahatena vasanena patiḥ paridadhyāt yāḥ akṛntan iti etayā ṛcā paridhatta dhatta vāsasā iti ca prāvṛtām yajña upavītinīm abhyudānayan japet somaḥ adadat gandharvāya iti paścāt agneḥ saṃveṣṭitam kaṭam evaṃjātīyam vā anyat padā pravartayantīm vācayet pra me pati yānaḥ panthāḥ kalpatām iti svayam lājān ādāya bhrātā vā vadhūm ākrāmayet aśmānam dakṣiṇena prapadena pāṇigrāhaḥ japati imam aśmānam āroha iti sakṛt saṃgṛhītam lājānām añjalim bhrātā vadhū añjalau āvapati tam sā upastīrṇa abhighāritam agnau juhoti a vicchindatī añjalim iyam nārī upabrūte iti aryamaṇam nu devam pūṣaṇam iti uttarayoḥ hute patiḥ yathetam parivrajya pradakṣiṇam agnim pariṇayati mantravān vā brāhmaṇaḥ kanyalā pitṛbhyaḥ iti pariṇītā tathā eva avatiṣṭhate tathā ākrāmati tathā japati tathā āvapati tathā juhoti evam tris śūrpeṇa śeṣam agnau opya prāc udīcīm abhyutkrāmayanti ekam iṣe iti dakṣiṇena prakramya savyena anukrāmet mā savyena dakṣiṇam atikrāma iti brūyāt īkṣakān pratimantrayeta su maṅgalīḥ iyam vadhūḥ iti apareṇa agnim audakaḥ anusaṃvrajya pāṇigrāham mūrdha deśe avasiñcati tathā itarām samañjantu iti etayā ṛcā avasiktāyāḥ savyena pāṇinā añjalim upodgṛhya dakṣiṇena pāṇinā dakṣiṇam pāṇim sa aṅguṣṭham uttānam gṛhītvā etāḥ ṣaḍ pāṇigrahaṇīyāḥ japati gṛbhṇāmi te iti samāptāsu udvahanti prāgudīcyāṃ diśi yad brāhmaṇakulam abhirūpam tatrāgnir upasamāhito bhavati apareṇāgnim ānaḍuhaṃ rohitaṃ carma prāggrīvam uttaralomāstīrṇaṃ bhavati tasminn enāṃ vāgyatām upaveśayanti sā khalv āsta evānakṣatradarśanāt prokte nakṣatre ṣaḍ ājyāhutīr juhoti lekhāsandhiṣv ity etatprabhṛtibhiḥ āhuter āhutes tu sampātaṃ mūrdhani vadhvā avanayet hutvopotthāyopaniṣkramya dhruvaṃ darśayati dhruvam asi dhruvāhaṃ patikule bhūyāsam amuṣyāsāv iti patināma gṛhṇīyād ātmanaś ca arundhatīṃ ca ruddhāham asmīty evam eva athainām anumantrayate dhruvā dyaur ity etayarcā anumantritā guruṃ gotreṇābhivādayate so 'syā vāgvisargaḥ tāv ubhau tatprabhṛti trirātram akṣārālavaṇāśinau brahmacāriṇau bhūmau saha śayīyātām atrārghyam ity āhuḥ āgateṣv ity eke haviṣyam annaṃ prathamaṃ parijapitaṃ bhuñjīta śvo bhūte vā samaśanīyaṃ sthālīpākaṃ kurvīta tasya devatā agniḥ prajāpatir viśve devā anumatir iti uddhṛtya sthālīpākaṃ vyuhyaikadeśaṃ pāṇinābhimṛśed annapāśena maṇineti bhuktvocchiṣṭaṃ vadhvai pradāya yathārtham gaur dakṣiṇā yānam ārohantyām su kiṃśukam śalmalim iti etām ṛcam japet adhvani catuṣpathān pratimantrayeta nadīḥ ca viṣamāṇi ca mahā vṛkṣān śmaśānam ca mā vidan paripanthinaḥ iti akṣa bhaṅge naddha vimokṣe yāna viparyāse anyāsu ca āpatsu yam eva agnim haranti tam eva upasamādhāya vyāhṛtibhiḥ hutvā anyat dravyam āhṛtya yaḥ ṛte cit abhiśriṣaḥ iti ājya śeṣena abhyañjet vāmadevyam gītvā ārohet prāpteṣu vāmadevyam gṛha gatām pati putra śīla sampannāḥ brāhmaṇyaḥ avaropya ānaḍuhe carmaṇi upaveśayanti iha gāvaḥ prajāyadhvam iti tasyāḥ kumāram upasthe ādadhyuḥ tasmai śakaloṭān añjalau āvapeyuḥ phalāni vā utthāpya kumāram dhruvāḥ ājya āhutīḥ juhoti aṣṭau iha dhṛtiḥ iti samāptāsu samidham ādhāya yathāvayasam gurūn gotreṇa abhivadya yathārtham athātaś caturthīkarma agnim upasamādhāya prāyaścittājyāhutīr juhoty agne prāyaścitta iti catuḥ agneḥ sthāne vāyucandrasūryāḥ samasya pañcamīṃ bahuvadūhya āhuter āhutes tu sampātam udapātre 'vanayet tenaināṃ sakeśanakhām abhyajya hrāsayitvāplāvayanti ūrdhvaṃ trirātrāt sambhava ity eke yadartumatī bhavaty uparataśoṇitā tadā sambhavakālaḥ dakṣiṇena pāṇinopastham abhimṛśed viṣṇur yoniṃ kalpayatv ity etayarcā garbhaṃ dhehi sinīvālīti ca samāpyarcau sambhavataḥ tṛtīyasya garbhamāsasyādisadeśe puṃsavanasya kālaḥ prātaḥ saśiraskāplutodagagreṣu darbheṣu paścād agner udagagreṣu darbheṣu prācy upaviśati paścāt patir avasthāya dakṣiṇena pāṇinā dakṣiṇam aṃsam anvavamṛśyānantarhitaṃ nābhideśam abhimṛśet pumāṃsau mitrāvaruṇāvityetayarcā atha yathārtham athāparam prāgudīcyāṃ diśi nyagrodhaśuṅgām ubhayataḥphalām asrāmām akṛmiparisṛptāṃ triḥsaptair yavair māṣair vā parikrīyotthāpayet yadyasi saumī somāya tvā rājñe parikrīṇāmi yady asi vāruṇī varuṇāya tvā rājñe parikrīṇāmi yady asi vasubhyo vasubhyas tvā parikrīṇāmi yadyasi rudrebhyo rudrebhyastvā parikrīṇāmi yady asy ādityebhya ādityebhyastvā parikrīṇāmi yady asi marudbhyo marudbhyas tvā parikrīṇāmi yadyasi viśvebhyo devebhyo viśvebhyas tvā devebhyaḥ parikrīṇāmi oṣadhayaḥ sumanaso bhūtvāsyāṃ vīryaṃ samādhatteyaṃ karma kariṣyatītyutthāpya tṛṇaiḥ paridhāyāhṛtya vaihāyasīṃ nidadhyāt dṛṣadaṃ prakṣālya brahmacārī vratavatī vā brahmabandhuḥ kumārī vāpratyāharantī pinaṣṭi prātaḥ saśiraskāplutodagagreṣu darbheṣu paścād agner udagagreṣu darbheṣu prākśirāḥ saṃviśati paścāt patir avasthāya dakṣiṇasya pāṇer aṅguṣṭhenopakaniṣṭhikayā cāṅgulyābhisaṃgṛhya dakṣiṇe nāsikāsrotasyavanayet pumān agniḥ pumān indra ityetayarcā atha yathārtham atha sīmantakaraṇaṃ prathamagarbhe caturthe māsi ṣaṣṭhe 'ṣṭame vā prātaḥ saśiraskāplutodagagreṣu darbheṣu paścād agner udagagreṣu darbheṣu prācy upaviśati paścāt patir avasthāya yugmantam audumbaraṃ śalāṭugrathnam ābadhnāty ayam ūrjāvato vṛkṣa iti atha sīmantam ūrdhvam unnayati bhūr iti darbhapiñjūlībhir eva prathamaṃ bhuvar iti dvitīyaṃ svar iti tṛtīyam atha vīratareṇa yenāditer ity etayarcā atha pūrṇacāttreṇa rākām aham ityetayarcā triḥśvetayā ca śalalyā yās te rāke sumataya iti kṛsaraḥ sthālīpāka uttaraghṛtas tam avekṣayet kiṃ paśyasītyuktvā prajām iti vācayet taṃ sā svayaṃ bhuñjīta vīrasūr jīvasūr jīvapatnīti brāhmaṇyo maṅgalyābhir vāgbhir upāsīran atha soṣyantīhomaḥ pratiṣṭhite vastau paristīryāgnim ājyāhutī juhoti yā tiraścīty etayarcā vipaścit puccham abharad iti ca pumān ayaṃ janiṣyate 'sau nāmeti nāmadheyaṃ gṛhṇāti yat tad guhyam eva bhavati yadāsmai kumāraṃ jātam ācakṣīrann atha brūyāt kāṅkṣata nābhikṛntanena stanapratidhānena ceti vrīhiyavau peṣayet tayaivāvṛtā yayā śuṅgām dakṣiṇasya pāṇer aṅguṣṭhenopakaniṣṭhikayā cāṅgulyābhisaṃgṛhya kumārasya jihvāyāṃ nimārṣṭīyam ājñeti tathaiva medhājananaṃ sarpiḥ prāśayet jātarūpeṇa vādāya kumārasya mukhe juhoti medhāṃ te mitrāvaruṇāv ityetayarcā sadasaspatim adbhutam iti ca kṛntata nābhim iti brūyāt stanaṃ ca pratidhatteti ata ūrdhvam asamālambhanam ā daśarātrāt jananād yas tṛtīyo jyautsnas tasya tṛtīyāyāṃ prātaḥ saśiraskaṃ kumāram āplāvyāstamite vīte lohitimny añjalikṛtaḥ pitopatiṣṭhate atha mātā śucinā vasanena kumāram ācchādya dakṣiṇata udañcaṃ pitre prayacchaty udakśirasam anupṛṣṭhaṃ parikramyottarato 'vatiṣṭhate atha japati yat te susīma iti yathāyaṃ na pramīyeta putro janitryā adhīti udañcaṃ mātre pradāya yathārtham atha ye 'ta ūrdhvaṃ jyautsnāḥ prathamoddiṣṭa eva teṣu pitopatiṣṭhate 'pām añjaliṃ pūrayitvābhimukhaś candramasam yad adaś candramasīti sakṛd yajuṣā dvis tūṣṇīm utsṛjya yathārtham jananād daśarātre vyuṣṭe śatarātre saṃvatsare vā nāmadheyakaraṇam atha yas tat kariṣyan bhavati paścād agner udagagreṣu darbheṣu prāṅ upaviśati atha mātā śucinā vasanena kumāram ācchādya dakṣiṇata udañcaṃ kartre prayacchaty udakśirasam anupṛṣṭham parikramyottarata upaviśaty udagagreṣv eva darbheṣu atha juhoti prajāpataye tithaye nakṣatrāya devatāyā iti tasya mukhyān prāṇān saṃmṛśan ko 'si katamo 'sīty etaṃ mantraṃ japati āhaspatyaṃ māsaṃ praviśāsāv ity ante ca mantrasya ghoṣavadādy antarantasthaṃ dīrghābhiniṣṭhānāntaṃ kṛtaṃ nāma dadhyāt etad ataddhitam ayug dāntaṃ strīṇām mātre caiva prathamaṃ nāmadheyam ākhyāya yathārtham gaur dakṣiṇā kumārasya māsi māsi saṃvatsare sāṃvatsarikeṣu vā parvasvagnīndrau dyāvāpṛthivī viśvān devāṃś ca yajeta daivatam iṣṭvā tithiṃ nakṣatraṃ ca yajeta viproṣya jyeṣṭhasya putrasyobhābhyāṃ pāṇibhyāṃ mūrdhānaṃ parigṛhya japed yadā vā pitā ma iti vidyād upetasya vāṅgād aṅgāt sambhavasīti paśūnāṃ tvā hiṅkāreṇābhijighrāmīty abhijighrya yathārtham evam evāvareṣām yathājyeṣṭhaṃ yathopalambhaṃ vā striyās tūṣṇīṃ mūrdhany abhijighraṇaṃ mūrdhanyabhijighraṇam athātas tṛtīye varṣe cūḍākaraṇam purastācchālāyā upalipte 'gnir upasamāhito bhavati tatraitāny upakᄆptāni bhavanti ekaviṃśatir darbhapiñjūlya uṣṇodakakaṃsa audumbaraḥ kṣura ādarśo vā kṣurapāṇir nāpita iti dakṣiṇataḥ ānaḍuho gomayaḥ kṛsaraḥ sthālīpāko vṛthāpakva ity uttarataḥ vrīhiyavais tilamāṣair iti pṛthak pātrāṇi pūrayitvā purastād upanidadhyuḥ kṛsaro nāpitāya sarvabījāni ceti atha mātā śucinā vasanena kumāram ācchādya paścād agner udagagreṣu darbheṣu prācy upaviśati atha yas tat kariṣyan bhavati paścāt prāṅ avatiṣṭhate atha japaty āyam agāt savitā kṣureṇeti savitāraṃ manasā dhyāyan nāpitaṃ prekṣamāṇaḥ uṣṇena vāya udakenaidhīti vāyuṃ manasā dhyāyann uṣṇodakakaṃsaṃ prekṣamāṇaḥ dakṣiṇena pāṇināpa ādāya dakṣiṇāṃ kapuṣṇikām undaty āpa undantu jīvasa iti viṣṇor daṃṣṭro 'sīty audumbaraṃ kṣuraṃ prekṣata ādarśaṃ vā oṣadhe trāyasvainam iti sapta darbhapiñjūlīr dakṣiṇāyāṃ kapuṣṇikāyām abhiśiro'grā nidadhāti tā vāmena pāṇinā nigṛhya dakṣiṇena pāṇinaudumbaraṃ kṣuraṃ gṛhītvādarśaṃ vābhinidadhāti svadhite mainaṃ hiṃsīr iti yena pūṣā bṛhaspater iti triḥ prāñcaṃ prohaty apracchindan sakṛd yajuṣā dvis tūṣṇīm athāyasena pracchidyānaḍuhe gomaye nidadhāti etayaivāvṛtā kapucchalam etayottarāṃ kapuṣṇikām undanaprabhṛti tvevābhinivartayet ubhābhyāṃ pāṇibhyāṃ mūrdhānaṃ parigṛhya japet tryāyuṣaṃ jamadagner iti etayaivāvṛtā striyāḥ tūṣṇīm mantreṇa tu homaḥ udaṅṅ agner utsṛpya kuśalīkārayanti yathāgotrakulakalpam ānaḍuhe gomaye keśān kṛtvāraṇyaṃ hṛtvā nikhananti stambe haike nidadhati yathārtham gaur dakṣiṇā garbhāṣṭameṣu brāhmaṇam upanayet garbhaikādaśeṣu kṣatriyaṃ garbhadvādaśeṣu vaiśyam ā ṣoḍaśād varṣād brāhmaṇasyānatītaḥ kālo bhavaty ā dvāviṃśāt kṣatriyasyā caturviṃśād vaiśyasya ata ūrdhvaṃ patitasāvitrīkā bhavanti nainān upanayeyur nādhyāpayeyur na yājayeyur naibhir vivaheyuḥ yad ahar upaiṣyan māṇavako bhavati praga evainaṃ tad ahar bhojayanti kuśalīkārayanty āplāvayanty alaṃkurvanty ahatena vāsasācchādayanti kṣaumaśāṇakārpāsaurṇāny eṣāṃ vasanāni aiṇeyarauravājāny ajināni muñjakāśatāmbalyo raśanāḥ pārṇabailvāśvatthā daṇḍāḥ kṣaumaṃ śāṇaṃ vā vasanaṃ brāhmaṇasya kārpāsaṃ kṣatriyasyāvikaṃ vaiśyasya etenaivetarāṇi dravyāṇi vyākhyātāni alābhe vā sarvāṇi sarveṣām purastācchālāyā upalipte 'gnir upasamāhito bhavati agne vratapata iti hutvā paścād agner udagagreṣu darbheṣu prāṅ ācāryo 'vatiṣṭhate antareṇāgnyācāryau māṇavako 'ñjalikṛto 'bhimukha ācāryam udagagreṣu darbheṣu tasya dakṣiṇato 'vasthāya mantravān brāhmaṇo 'pām añjaliṃ pūrayati upariṣṭāccācāryasya prekṣamāṇo japaty āgantrā sam aganmahīti brahmacaryam āgām iti vācayati ko nāmāsīti nāmadheyaṃ pṛcchati tasyācāryaḥ abhivādanīyaṃ nāmadheyaṃ kalpayitvā devatāśrayaṃ vā nakṣatrāśrayaṃ vā gotrāśrayam apy eke utsṛjyāpām añjalim ācāryo dakṣiṇena pāṇinā dakṣiṇaṃ pāṇiṃ sāṅguṣṭhaṃ gṛhṇāti devasya te savituḥ prasave 'śvinor bāhubhyāṃ pūṣṇo hastābhyāṃ hastaṃ gṛhṇāmy asāv iti athainaṃ pradakṣiṇam āvartayati sūryasyāvṛtam anvāvartasvāsāv iti dakṣiṇena pāṇinā dakṣiṇam aṃsam anvavamṛśyānantarhitāṃ nābhim abhimṛśet prāṇānāṃ granthir asīti utsṛpya nābhideśam ahura iti utsṛpya hṛdayadeśaṃ kṛśana iti dakṣiṇena pāṇinā dakṣiṇam aṃsam anvālabhya prajāpataye tvā paridadāmy asāv iti savyena savyaṃ devāya tvā savitre paridadāmy asāv iti athainaṃ saṃpreṣyati brahmacāry asy asāv iti samidham ādhehy apo 'śāna karma kuru mā divā svāpsīr iti udaṅṅ agner utsṛpya prāṅ ācārya upaviśaty udagagreṣu darbheṣu pratyaṅ māṇavako dakṣiṇajānvakto 'bhimukha ācāryam udagagreṣv eva darbheṣu athainaṃ triḥ pradakṣiṇaṃ muñjamekhalāṃ pariharan vācayatīyaṃ duruktāt paribādhamānety ṛtasya goptrīti ca athopasīdaty adhīhi bhoḥ sāvitrīṃ me bhavān anubravītv iti tasmā anvāha paccho 'rdharcaśa ṛkśa iti mahāvyāhṛtīś ca vihṛtā oṃkārāntāḥ vārkṣaṃ cāsmai daṇḍaṃ prayacchan vācayati suśravaḥ suśravasaṃ mā kurv iti atha bhaikṣaṃ carati mātaram evāgre dve cānye suhṛdau yāvatyo vā saṃnihitāḥ syuḥ ācāryāya bhaikṣaṃ nivedayate tiṣṭhaty ahaḥśeṣaṃ vāgyataḥ astamite samidham ādadhāty agnaye samidham ahārṣam iti trirātram akṣārālavaṇāśī bhavati tasyānte sāvitraś caruḥ yathārtham gaur dakṣiṇā atha atas ṣoḍaśe varṣe godānam cūḍākaraṇena keśānta karaṇam vyākhyātam brahmacārī keśāntān kārayate sarvāṇi aṅga lomāni saṃhārayate go mithunam dakṣiṇā brāhmaṇasya aśva mithunam kṣatriyasya avi mithunam vaiśyasya gauḥ vā eva sarveṣām ajaḥ keśa pratigrāhāya upanayanena eva upanayanam vyākhyātam na tu iha ahatam vāsaḥ niyuktam na alaṅkāraḥ na a cariṣyantam saṃvatsaram upanayet vārkṣam ca asmai daṇḍam prayacchan ādiśati ācārya adhīnaḥ bhava anyatra adharma caraṇāt krodha anṛte varjaya maithunam upariśayyām kauśīlava gandha añjanāni snānam snānam avalekhana danta prakṣālana pāda prakṣālanāni kṣurakṛtyam madhu māṃse go yukta ārohaṇam antar grāme upānahoḥ dhāraṇam svayamindriyamocanam iti mekhalā dhāraṇa bhaikṣa carya daṇḍa dhāraṇa samidh ādhāna udaka upasparśana prātarabhivādāḥ iti ete nitya dharmāḥ godānika vrātika āditya vrata aupaniṣada jyaiṣṭhasāmikāḥ saṃvatsarāḥ teṣu sāyam prātar udaka upasparśanam ādityavratam tu na caranti eke ye caranti eka vāsasaḥ bhavanti ādityam ca na antardadhate anyatra vṛkṣa śaraṇābhyām na apaḥ abhyavayanti ūrdhvam jānubhyām a guru prayuktāḥ dvādaśa mahānāmnikāḥ saṃvatsarāḥ nava ṣaṭ trayaḥ iti vikalpaḥ saṃvatsaram apy eke vrataṃ tu bhūyaḥ pūrvaiś cecchrutā mahānāmnyaḥ athāpi raurukibrāhmaṇaṃ bhavati kumārān ha sma vai mātaraḥ pāyayamānā āhuḥ śakvarīṇāṃ putrakā vrataṃ pārayiṣṇavo bhavateti tāsv anusavanam udakopasparśanam nānupaspṛśya bhojanaṃ prātaḥ sāyam upaspṛśyābhojanam ā samidādhānāt kṛṣṇavastraḥ kṛṣṇabhakṣaḥ ācāryādhīnaḥ apanthadāyī tapasvī tiṣṭhed divā āsīta naktam varṣati ca nopasarpecchannam varṣantaṃ brūyād āpaḥ śakvarya iti vidyotamānaṃ brūyād evaṃrūpāḥ khalu śakvaryo bhavantīti stanayantaṃ brūyān mahyā mahān ghoṣa iti na sravantīm atikrāmed anupaspṛśan na nāvam ārohet prāṇasaṃśaye tūpaspṛśyārohet tathā pratyavaruhya udakasādhavo hi mahānāmnya iti evaṃ khalu carataḥ kāmavarṣī parjanyo bhavati aniyamo vā kṛṣṇasthānāsanapanthabhakṣeṣu tṛtīye carite stotrīyām anugāpayet evam itare stotrīye sarvā vānte sarvasya upoṣitāya saṃmīlitāyānugāpayet kaṃsam apāṃ pūrayitvā sarvauṣadhīḥ kṛtvā hastāv avadhāya pradakṣiṇam ācāryo 'hatena vasanena pariṇahyet pariṇahanānte vānugāpayet pariṇaddho vāgyato na bhuñjīta trirātram ahorātrau vā api vāraṇye tiṣṭhed āstamayāt śvo bhūte 'raṇye 'gnim upasamādhāya vyāhṛtibhir hutvāthainam avekṣayet agnim ājyam ādityaṃ brahmāṇam anaḍvāham annam apo dadhīti svar abhivyakhyaṃ jyotir abhivyakhyam iti evaṃ triḥ sarvāṇi śāntiṃ kṛtvā gurum abhivādayate so 'sya vāgvisargaḥ anaḍvān kaṃso vāso vara iti dakṣiṇāḥ prathame vikalpaḥ ācchādayed gurum ity eke aindraḥ sthālīpākas tasya juhuyād ṛcaṃ sāma yajāmaha ityetayarcā sadasaspatim adbhutam iti vobhābhyāṃ vā anupravacanīyeṣv evam sarvatrācāriṣaṃ tad aśakaṃ tenārātsam upāgām iti mantraviśeṣaḥ āgneye 'ja aindre meṣo gauḥ pāvamāne parvadakṣiṇāḥ pratyetyācāryaṃ sapariṣatkaṃ bhojayet sabrahmacāriṇaś copasametān jyeṣṭhasāmno mahānāmnikenaivānugāpanakalpo vyākhyātaḥ tatraitāni nityavratāni bhavanti na śūdrām upeyāt na pakṣimāṃsaṃ bhuñjīta ekadhānyam ekadeśam ekavastraṃ ca varjayet uddhṛtābhir adbhir upaspṛśet ādeśanāt prabhṛti na mṛṇmaye 'śnīyāt na pibet śravaṇād ity eke prauṣṭhapadīm hastena upākaraṇam vyāhṛtibhiḥ hutvā śiṣyāṇām sāvitrī anuvacanam yathā upanayane sāmasāvitrīm ca somam rājānam varuṇam iti ca āditaḥ chandasaḥ adhītya yathārtham akṣata dhānāḥ bhakṣayanti dhānāvantam karambhiṇam iti dadhnaḥ prāśnanti dadhikrāvṇaḥ akāriṣam iti khāṇḍikebhyaḥ anuvākyāḥ anugeyāḥ kārayet sāvitram ahar kāṅkṣante udagayane ca pakṣiṇīm rātrim ubhayatas eke tri rātram ācāryāṇām ca udaka utsecanam ubhayatra śravaṇām eke upākṛtya etam ā sāvitrāt kālam kāṅkṣante taiṣīm utsṛjanti prāṅ vā udaṅ vā grāmāt niṣkramya yāḥ āpaḥ an avamehanīyāḥ tāḥ abhyetya upaspṛśya chandāṃsi ṛṣīn ācāryān ca tarpayeyuḥ tasmin pratyupākaraṇe abhrānadhyāyaḥ ā punarupākaraṇāt chandasaḥ vidyut stanayitnu pṛṣiteṣu ākālam ulkā pāta bhūmicala jyotiṣoḥ upasargeṣu nirghāte ca aṣṭakā amāvāsyāsu na adhīyīran paurṇamāsīṣu tisṛṣu kārttikyām phālgunyām āṣāḍhyām ca ahar rātram sabrahmacāriṇi ca prete sve ca bhūmipatau tri rātram ācārye upasanne tu ahar rātram gīta vādita rudita ativāteṣu tad kālam śiṣṭa ācāraḥ atas anyatra adbhute kula patyoḥ prāyaścittam vaṃśa madhyamayoḥ maṇike vā bhinne vyāhṛtibhiḥ juhuyāt duḥsvapneṣu adya naḥ deva savitar iti etām ṛcam japet atha aparam citya yūpa upasparśana karṇa krośa akṣi vepaneṣu sūrya abhyuditaḥ indriyaiḥ ca pāpa sparśaiḥ punar mām aitu indriyam iti etābhyām ājya āhutī juhuyāt ājya lipte vā samidhau japet vā laghuṣu brahmacārī vedam adhītya upanyāhṛtya gurave anujñāto dārān kurvīta asagotrān mātur asapiṇḍān nagnikā tu śreṣṭhā athāplavanam uttarataḥ purastād vācāryakulasya parivṛtaṃ bhavati tatra prāgagreṣu darbheṣūdaṅṅācārya upaviśati prāg brahmacāry udagagreṣu darbheṣu sarvauṣadhiviphāṇṭābhir adbhir gandhavatībhiḥ śītoṣṇābhir ācāryo 'bhiṣiñcet svayam iva tu mantravarṇo bhavati ye apsv antar agnayaḥ praviṣṭā ity apām añjalim avasiñcati yad apāṃ ghoraṃ yad apāṃ krūraṃ yad apām aśāntam iti ca yo rocanas tam iha gṛhṇāmīty ātmānam abhiṣiñcati yaśase tejasa iti ca yena striyam akṛṇutam iti ca tūṣṇīṃ caturtham upotthāyādityam upatiṣṭhetodyan bhrājabhṛṣṭibhir ity etatprabhṛtinā mantreṇa yathāliṅgaṃ vā viharan cakṣur asīty anubadhnīyāt mekhalām avamuñcata ud uttamaṃ varuṇa pāśam iti brāhmaṇān bhojayitvā svayaṃ bhuktvā keśaśmaśruromanakhāni vāpayīta śikhāvarjam snātvālaṃkṛtyāhate vāsasī paridhāya srajam ābadhnīta śrīr asi mayi ramasveti netryau stho nayataṃ mām ity upānahau gandharvo 'sīti vaiṇavaṃ daṇḍaṃ gṛhṇāti ācāryaṃ sapariṣatkam abhyetyācāryapariṣadam īkṣate yakṣam iva cakṣuṣaḥ priyo vo bhūyāsam iti upopaviśya mukhyān prāṇān saṃmṛśann oṣṭhāpidhānā nakulīti atrainam ācāryo 'rhayet goyuktaṃ ratham upasaṃkramya pakṣasī kūbarabāhū vābhimṛśed vanaspate vīḍvaṅgo hi bhūyā iti āsthātā te jayatu jetvānīty ātiṣṭhati prāṅ vodaṅ vābhiprayāya pradakṣiṇam āvṛtyopayāti upayātāyārghyam iti kauhalīyāḥ ata ūrdhvaṃ vṛddhaśīlī syād iti samastoddeśaḥ tatraitāny ācāryāḥ parisaṃcakṣate nājātalomnyopahāsam icchet nāyugvā na rajasvalayā na samānarṣyā nāparayā dvārā prapannam annaṃ bhuñjīta na dviḥpakvam na paryuṣitam anyatra śākamāṃsayavapiṣṭavikārebhyaḥ na varṣati dhāvet nopānahau svayaṃ haret nodapānam avekṣet na phalāni svayaṃ pracinvīta nāgandhāṃ srajaṃ dhārayet anyāṃ hiraṇyasrajaḥ na māloktām srag iti vācayet bhadram ity etāṃ vṛthāvācaṃ pariharet mandram iti brūyāt tatraite trayaḥ snātakā bhavanti vidyāsnātako vratasnātako vidyāvratasnātaka iti teṣām uttamaḥ śreṣṭhas tulyau pūrvau nārdraṃ paridadhīta naikaṃ paridadhīta na manuṣyasya stutiṃ prayuñjīta nādṛṣṭaṃ dṛṣṭato bruvīta nāśrutaṃ śrutataḥ svādhyāyavirodhino 'rthān utsṛjet tailapātram ivātmānaṃ didhārayiṣet na vṛkṣam ārohet na pratisāyaṃ grāmāntaraṃ vrajet naikaḥ na vṛṣalaiḥ saha na kāsṛtyā grāmaṃ praviśet na cānanucaraś caret etāni samāvṛttavratāni yāni ca śiṣṭā vidadhyuḥ gāḥ prakālyamānā anumantrayetemā me viśvatovīrya iti pratyāgatā imā madhumatīr mahyam iti puṣṭikāmaḥ prathamajātasya vatsasya prāṅ mātuḥ pralehanājjihvayā lalāṭam ullihya nigired gavāṃ śleṣmāsīti puṣṭikāma eva samprajātāsu niśāyāṃ goṣṭhe 'gnim upasamādhāya vilayanaṃ juhuyāt saṃgrahaṇa saṃgṛhāṇeti puṣṭikāma eva samprajātāsv audumbareṇāsinā vatsamithunayor lakṣaṇaṃ karoti puṃsa evāgre 'tha striyā bhuvanam asi sāhasram iti kṛtvā cānumantrayeta lohitena svadhitineti tantīṃ prasāryamāṇāṃ baddhavatsāṃ cānumantrayeteyaṃ tantī gavāṃ māteti tatraitāny aharahaḥ kṛtyāni bhavanti niṣkālanapraveśane tantīviharaṇam iti goyajñe pāyasaś caruḥ agniṃ yajeta pūṣaṇam indram īśvaram ṛṣabhapūjā goyajñenaivāśvayajño vyākhyātaḥ yamavaruṇau devatānām atrādhikau gandhair abhyukṣaṇaṃ gavāṃ gandhair abhyukṣaṇaṃ gavām athātaḥ śravaṇākarma paurṇamāsyāṃ kṛtyam purastācchālāyā upalipya śālāgner agniṃ praṇayanti abhitaścatvāryupalimpati pratidiśam sādhike prakrame agnau kapālam ādhāya sakṛtsaṃgṛhītam yavamuṣṭiṃ bhṛjjaty anupadahan paścād agner ulūkhalaṃ dṛṃhayitvāvahanty udvecam sukṛtān saktūn kṛtvā camasa opya śūrpenāpidhāya nidadhāti dakṣiṇapaścime antareṇa saṃcaraḥ astamite camasadarvyāv ādāya śūrpaṃ cātipraṇītasyārdhaṃ vrajati śūrpe saktūn āvapati camase codakam ādatte sakṛtsaṃgṛhītān darvyā saktūn kṛtvā pūrva upalipta udakaṃ ninīya baliṃ nivapati yaḥ prācyāṃ diśi sarparāja eṣa te balir iti upaninayaty apāṃ śeṣaṃ yathā baliṃ na pravakṣyatīti savyaṃ bāhum anvāvṛtya camasadarvyāv abhyukṣya pratāpyaivaṃ dakṣiṇaivaṃ pratīcy evam udīcī yathāliṅgam avyāvartamānaḥ śūrpeṇa śeṣam agnāv opyānatipraṇītasyārdhaṃ vrajati paścād agner bhūmau nyañcau pāṇī pratiṣṭhāpya namaḥ pṛthivyā ity etaṃ mantraṃ japati pradoṣe pāyasaścaruḥ tasya juhuyācchravaṇāya viṣṇave 'gnaye prajāpataye viśvebhyo devebhyaḥ svāheti sthālīpākāvṛtānyat uttarato 'gner darbhastambaṃ samūlaṃ pratiṣṭhāpya somo rājety etaṃ mantraṃ japati yāṃ saṃdhāṃ sam adhatteti ca śvas tato 'kṣatasaktūn kārayitvā nave pātre 'pidhāya nidadhāti aharahas tūṣṇīṃ balīn haret sāyaṃ prāgghomād āgrahāyaṇyāḥ āśvayujyāṃ paurṇamāsyāṃ pṛṣātake pāyasaś carū raudraḥ tasya juhuyād ā no mitrāvaruṇeti prathamāṃ mā nas toka iti dvitīyām gonāmabhiś ca pṛthak kāmyāsīty etatprabhṛtibhiḥ sthālīpākāvṛtānyat pṛṣātakaṃ pradakṣiṇam agniṃ paryāṇīya brāhmaṇān avekṣayitvā svayam avekṣeta tac cakṣur devahitaṃ purastācchukram uccarat paśyema śaradaḥ śataṃ jīvema śaradaḥ śatam iti brāhmaṇān bhojayitvā svayaṃ bhuktvā jātuṣān maṇīn sarvauṣadhimiśrān ābadhnīran svastyayanārtham sāyaṃ gāḥ pṛṣātakaṃ prāśayitvā sahavatsā vāsayeta svasti hāsāṃ bhavati navayajñe pāyasaś carur aindrāgnaḥ tasya mukhyāṃ havirāhutiṃ hutvā catasṛbhir ājyāhutibhir abhijuhoti śatāyudhāyetyetatprabhṛtibhiḥ sthālīpākāvṛtānyat havirucchiṣṭaśeṣaṃ prāśayed yāvanta upetāḥ syuḥ sakṛd apām upastīrya dviś caror avadyati trir bhṛgūṇām apāṃ caivopariṣṭāt asaṃsvādaṃ nigired bhadrān naḥ śreya iti evaṃ triḥ tūṣṇīṃ caturtham bhūya evāvadāya kāmaṃ tatra saṃsvādayeran ācāntodakāḥ pratyabhimṛśeran mukhaṃ śiro 'ṅgānīty anulomam amo 'sīti etayaivāvṛtā śyāmākayavānām agniḥ prāśnātu prathama iti śyāmākānām etam u tyaṃ madhunā saṃyutaṃ yavam iti yavānām āgrahāyaṇyāṃ baliharaṇam tat śrāvaṇenaiva vyākhyātam namaḥ pṛthivyā ity etaṃ mantraṃ na japati atha pūrvāhṇa eva prātarāhutiṃ hutvā darbhān śamīṃ vīraṇāṃ phalavatīm apāmārgaṃ śirīṣam ity etāny āhārayitvā tūṣṇīm akṣatasaktūnām agnau kṛtvā brāhmaṇān svastivācyaitaiḥ sambhāraiḥ pradakṣiṇam agnyāgārāt prabhṛti dhūmaṃ śātayan gṛhān anuparīyāt utsṛjet kṛtārthān sambhārān jātaśilāsu maṇikaṃ pratiṣṭhāpayati vāstoṣpata ity etena dvikena sarcena dvāv udakumbhau maṇika āsiñcet sam anyā yantīty etayarcā pradoṣe pāyasaś caruḥ tasya juhuyāt prathamā ha vy uvāsa seti sthālīpākāvṛtānyat paścād agner barhiṣi nyañcau pāṇī pratiṣṭhāpya prati kṣatra ity etā vyāhṛtīr japati paścād agneḥ svastaram āstārayet udagagrais tṛṇaiḥ udakpravaṇam tasminn ahatāny āstaraṇāny āstīrya dakṣiṇato gṛhapatir upaviśati anantarā avare yathājyeṣṭham anantarāś ca bhāryāḥ sajātāḥ samupaviṣṭeṣu gṛhapatiḥ svastare nyañcau pāṇī pratiṣṭhāpya syonā pṛthivi no bhavety etām ṛcaṃ japati samāptāyāṃ saṃviśanti dakṣiṇaiḥ pārśvaiḥ evaṃ trir abhyātmam āvṛtya svastyayanāni prayujya yathājñānam ariṣṭaṃ sāmasaṃyogam eke apa upaspṛśya yathārtham aṣṭakā rātri devatā puṣṭi karma āgneyī pitryā vā prājāpatyā ṛtu devatā vaiśvadevī iti devatā vicārāḥ catur aṣṭakaḥ hemantaḥ tāḥ sarvāḥ sa māṃsāḥ cikīrṣet iti kautsaḥ tri aṣṭakaḥ iti audgāhamāniḥ tathā gautama vārkakhaṇḍī yā ūrdhvam āgrahāyaṇyāḥ tāmisra aṣṭamī tām apūpāṣṭakā iti ācakṣate sthālīpāka āvṛtā taṇḍulān upaskṛtya carum śrapayati aṣṭau ca apūpān kapāle a parivartayan eka kapālān amantrān iti audgāhamāniḥ traiyambaka pramāṇān śṛtān abhighārya udak udvāsya pratyabhighārayet sthālīpāka āvṛtā avadāya caroḥ ca apūpānām ca aṣṭakāyai svāhā iti juhoti sthālīpāka āvṛtā anyat taiṣyāḥ ūrdhvam aṣṭamyām gauḥ tām sandhivelā samīpam purastāt agneḥ avasthāpya upasthitāyām juhuyāt yat paśavaḥ pra dhyāyata iti hutvā ca anumantrayeta anu tvā mātā manyatām iti yavamatībhiḥ adbhiḥ prokṣet aṣṭakāyai tvā juṣṭām prokṣāmi iti ulmukena pariharet pari vāja patiḥ kaviḥ iti apaḥ pānāya dadyāt pīta śeṣam adhastāt paśoḥ avasiñcet āttam devebhyaḥ haviḥ iti atha enām udak utsṛpya saṃjñapayanti prāc śirasam udakpadīm deva devatye dakṣiṇā śirasam pratyakpadīm pitṛ devatye saṃjñaptāyām juhuyāt yat paśuḥ māyum akṛta iti patnī ca udakam ādāya paśoḥ sarvāṇi srotāṃsi prakṣālayet agreṇa nābhim pavitre antardhāya anulomam ākṛtya vapām uddharanti tām śākhā viśākhayoḥ kāṣṭhayoḥ avasajya abhyukṣya śrapayet praścyutitāyām viśasata iti brūyāt yathā na prāk agneḥ bhūmim śoṇitam gacchet śṛtām abhighārya udak udvāsya pratyabhighārayet sthālīpāka āvṛtā vapām avadāya sviṣṭakṛt āvṛtā vā aṣṭakāyai svāhā iti juhoti sthālīpāka āvṛtā anyat sthālīpāka āvṛtā anyat anupraharati vapāśrapaṇyau prācīm eka śūlām pratīcīm itarām avadyanti avadānāni sarva aṅgebhyaḥ anyatra vāmāt ca sakthnaḥ klomnaḥ ca vāmam sakthi anvaṣṭakyāya nidadhyāt tasmin eva agnau śrapayati odana carum ca māṃsa carum ca pṛthak mekṣaṇābhyām pradakṣiṇam udāyuvan śṛtau abhighārya udak udvāsya pratyabhighārayet kaṃse rasam avāsicya plakṣa śākhāvati prastare avadānāni kṛtvā sthālīpāka āvṛtā avadānānām kaṃse avadyati sviṣṭakṛtaḥ ca pṛthak caroḥ uddhṛtya bilva mātram avadānaiḥ saha yūṣeṇa saṃnayet caturgṛhītam ājyam gṛhītvā aṣṭa ṛca prathamayā juhuyāt agnau agniḥ iti saṃnītāt tṛtīya mātram avadāya dvitīyā tṛtīyābhyām juhoti uttarasyām svāhākāram dadhāti evam eva avare caturthī pañcamībhyām ṣaṣṭhī saptamībhyām ca śeṣam avadāya sauviṣṭakṛtam aṣṭamyā juhuyāt yadi u vai alpa sambhāratamaḥ syāt api paśunā eva kurvīta api vā sthālīpākam kurvīta api vā goḥ grāsam āharet api vā araṇye kakṣam upadhāya brūyāt eṣā me aṣṭakā iti na tu eva na kurvīta na tu eva na kurvīta śvas tato 'nvaṣṭakyam aparaśvo vā dakṣiṇapūrve 'ṣṭamadeśe parivārayanti tathāyatam tathāmukhaiḥ kṛtyam caturavarārdhyān prakramān paścād upasaṃcāraḥ uttarārdhe parivṛtasya lakṣaṇaṃ kṛtvāgniṃ praṇayanti paścād agner ulūkhalaṃ dṛṃhayitvā sakṛtsaṃgṛhītaṃ vrīhimuṣṭim avahanti savyottarābhyāṃ pāṇibhyām yadā vituṣāḥ syuḥ sakṛd eva suphalīkṛtān kurvīta athāmuṣmāc ca sakthno māṃsapeśīm avakṛtya navāyāṃ sūnāyām aṇuśaś chedayet yathā māṃsābhighārāḥ piṇḍā bhaviṣyantīti tasminn evāgnau śrapayaty odanacaruṃ ca māṃsacaruṃ ca pṛthaṅ mekṣaṇābhyāṃ prasavyam udāyuvan śṛtāv abhighārya dakṣiṇodvāsya na pratyabhighārayet dakṣiṇārdhe parivṛtasya tisraḥ karṣūḥ khanayet pūrvopakramāḥ prādeśāyāmāś caturaṅgulapṛthvīs tathāvakhātāḥ pūrvasyāḥ karṣvāḥ purastāl lakṣaṇaṃ kṛtvāgniṃ praṇayanti apareṇa karṣūḥ paryāhṛtya lakṣaṇe nidadhyāt sakṛdācchinnaṃ darbhamuṣṭiṃ stṛṇoti karṣūś ca pūrvopakramāḥ paścāt karṣūṇāṃ svastaram āstārayet dakṣiṇāgraiḥ kuśaiḥ dakṣiṇāpravaṇam bṛsīṃ copadadhyāt tatrāsmā āharanty ekaikaśaḥ savyaṃ bāhum anu carusthālyau mekṣaṇe kaṃsaṃ darvīm udakam iti patnī barhiṣi śilāṃ nidhāya sthagaraṃ pinaṣṭi tasyāṃ caivāñjanaṃ nighṛṣya tisro darbhapiñjūlīr añjati savyantarāḥ tailaṃ copakalpayet kṣaumadaśāṃ ca śucau deśe brāhmaṇān anindyān ayugmān udaṅmukhān upaveśya darbhān pradāya udakapūrvaṃ tilodakaṃ dadāti pitur nāma gṛhītvāsāv etat te tilodakaṃ ye cātra tvānu yāṃś ca tvam anu tasmai te svadheti apa upaspṛśyaivam evetarayoḥ tathā gandhān agnau kariṣyāmīty āmantraṇaṃ hoṣyataḥ kurv ity ukte kaṃse carū samavadāya mekṣaṇenopaghātaṃ juhuyāt svāhā somāya pitṛmata iti pūrvāṃ svāhāgnaye kavyavāhanāyety uttarām ata ūrdhvaṃ prācīnāvītinā vāgyatena kṛtyam savyena pāṇinā darbhapiñjūlīṃ gṛhītvā dakṣiṇāgrāṃ lekhāṃ ullikhed apahatā asurā iti savyenaiva pāṇinolmukaṃ gṛhītvā dakṣiṇārdhe karṣūṇāṃ nidadhyād ye rūpāṇi pratimuñcamānā iti atha pitṝn āvāhayaty eta pitaraḥ somyāsa iti athodapātrān karṣūṣu nidadhyāt savyenaiva pāṇinodapātraṃ gṛhītvāvasalavi pūrvasyāṃ karṣvāṃ darbheṣu ninayet pitur nāma gṛhītvāsāv avanenikṣva ye cātra tvānu yāṃś ca tvam anu tasmai te svadheti apa upaspṛśyaivam evetarayoḥ savyenaiva pāṇinā darvīṃ gṛhītvā saṃnītāt tṛtīyamātram avadāyāvasalavi pūrvasyāṃ karṣvāṃ darbheṣu nidadhyāt pitur nāma gṛhītvāsāv eṣa te piṇḍo ye cātra tvānu yāṃś ca tvam anu tasmai te svadheti apa upaspṛśyaivam evetarayoḥ yadi nāmāni na vidyāt svadhā pitṛbhyaḥ pṛthivīṣadbhya iti prathamaṃ piṇḍaṃ nidadhyāt svadhā pitṛbhyo 'ntarīkṣasadbhya iti dvitīyaṃ svadhā pitṛbhyo diviṣadbhya iti tṛtīyam nidhāya japaty atra pitaro mādayadhvaṃ yathābhāgam āvṛṣāyadhvam iti apaparyāvṛtya purocchvāsād abhiparyāvartamāno japed amī madanta pitaro yathābhāgam āvṛṣāyiṣateti savyenaiva pāṇinā darbhapiñjūlīṃ gṛhītvāvasalavi pūrvasyāṃ karṣvāṃ piṇḍe nidadhyāt pitur nāma gṛhītvāsāvetat ta āñjanaṃ ye cātra tvānu yāṃś ca tvam anu tasmai te svadheti apa upaspṛśyaivam evetarayoḥ tathā tailam tathā surabhi atha nihnute pūrvasyāṃ karṣvāṃ dakṣiṇottānau pāṇī kṛtvā namo vaḥ pitaro jīvāya namo vaḥ pitaraḥ śūṣāyeti madhyamāyāṃ savyottānau namo vaḥ pitaro ghorāya namo vaḥ pitaro rasāyeti uttamāyāṃ dakṣiṇottānau namo vaḥ pitaraḥ svadhāyai namo vaḥ pitaro manyava iti athāñjalikṛto japati namo vaḥ pitaraḥ pitaro namo va iti gṛhān avekṣate gṛhān naḥ pitaro datteti piṇḍān avekṣate sado vaḥ pitaro deṣmeti savyenaiva pāṇinā sūtratantuṃ gṛhītvāvasalavi pūrvasyāṃ karṣvāṃ piṇḍe nidadhyāt pitur nāma gṛhītvāsāvetat te vāso ye cātra tvānu yāṃś ca tvam anu tasmai te svadheti apa upaspṛśyaivam evetarayoḥ savyenaiva pāṇinodapātraṃ gṛhītvāvasalavi piṇḍān pariṣiñced ūrjaṃ vahantīr iti madhyamaṃ piṇḍaṃ patnī putrakāmā prāśnīyād ādhatta pitaro garbham iti yo vā teṣāṃ brāhmaṇānām ucchiṣṭabhāk syāt abhūn no dūto haviṣo jātavedā ity ulmukam adbhir abhyukṣya dvandvaṃ pātrāṇi prakṣālya pratyatihārayet apsu piṇḍān sādayet praṇīte vāgnau brāhmaṇaṃ vā bhojayet gave vā dadyāt vṛddhipūrteṣu yugmān āśayet pradakṣiṇam upacāraḥ yavais tilārthaḥ anvaṣṭakya sthālīpākena piṇḍapitṛyajñaḥ vyākhyātaḥ amāvāsyāyām tat śrāddham itarat anvāhāryam māsīnam dakṣiṇāgnau haviṣaḥ saṃskaraṇam tatas ca eva atipraṇayaḥ śālāgnau anāhitāgneḥ ekā karṣūḥ tasyāḥ dakṣiṇatas agneḥ sthānam na atra ulmuka nidhānam na svastaraḥ na añjana abhyañjane na surabhi na nihnavanam uda pātra antaḥ vāsaḥ tu nidadhyāt māghyāḥ ūrdhvam aṣṭamyām sthālīpākaḥ tasya juhuyāt aṣṭakāyai svāhā iti juhoti sthālīpāka āvṛtā anyat śākam vyañjanam anvāhārye atha pitṛ devatyeṣu paśuṣu vaha vapām jātavedaḥ pitṛbhyaḥ iti vapām juhuyāt deva devatyeṣu jātavedaḥ vapayā gaccha devān iti an ājñāteṣu tathā ādeśam yathā aṣṭakāyai svāhā iti juhoti sthālīpāka āvṛtā anyat ṛṇe prajñāyamāne golakānām madhyama parṇena juhuyāt yat kusīdam iti atha atas hala abhiyogaḥ puṇye nakṣatre sthālīpākam śrapayitvā etābhyaḥ devatābhyaḥ juhuyāt indrāya marudbhyaḥ parjanyāya aśanyai bhagāya sītām āśām araḍām anaghām ca yajeta etāḥ eva devatāḥ sītāyajña khalayajña pravapaṇa pralavana paryayaṇeṣu ākhu rājam ca utkareṣu yajeta indrāṇyāḥ sthālīpākaḥ tasya juhuyāt ekāṣṭakā tapasā imaṃ stomam iti tṛcena parisamūhet vairūpākṣaḥ purastāddhomānām kāmyeṣu ca prapadaḥ tapaś ca tejaś ceti japitvā prāṇāyāmam āyamyārthamanā vairūpākṣam ārabhyocchvaset kāmyeṣu trirātrābhojanam trīṇi vā bhaktāni nityaprayuktānāṃ tu prathamaprayogeṣu upoṣya tu yajanīyaprayogeṣu upariṣṭāddaikṣaṃ sānnipātikam araṇye prapadaṃ prayuñjīta darbheṣv āsīnaḥ prāktūleṣu brahmavarcasakāmaḥ udaktūleṣu putrapaśukāmaḥ ubhayeṣūbhayakāmaḥ paśusvastyayanakāmo vrīhiyavahomaṃ prayuñjīta sahasrabāhur gaupatya iti kautomatena mahāvṛkṣaphalāni parijapya prayacchet yasyātmani prasādam icchet tasmai ekabhūyāṃsy ātmano yugmāni kuryāt vṛkṣa iveti pañcarcaḥ tasmin prathamaṃ pārthivaṃ karma ardhamāsam abhuktvā aśaktau vā peyām anyataraṃ kālam yatrātmānaṃ paripaśyet etad vratam ardhamāsavrateṣu paurṇamāsyāṃ rātrāv avidāsini hrade nābhimātram avagāhyākṣatataṇḍulān ṛganteṣv āsyena juhuyāt svāhety udake athāparam prathamayādityam upatiṣṭheta bhogakāmo 'rthapaticakṣurviṣaye sidhyaty arthaḥ dvitīyayāditye pariviṣyamāṇe 'kṣatataṇḍulān juhuyād bṛhatpattrasvastyayanakāmaḥ tṛtīyayā candramasi tilataṇḍulān kṣudrapaśusvastyayanakāmaḥ caturthyādityam upasthāyārthān pratipadyeta svasty arthavān āgacchati pañcamyādityam upasthāya gṛhān prapadyeta svasti gṛhān āgacchati svasti gṛhān āgacchati bhūḥ iti an a kāma māram nityam prayuñjīta na pāpa rogāt na abhicaraṇāt bhayam alakṣmī nirṇodaḥ yajanīya prayogaḥ mūrdhnaḥ adhi me iti ekaikayā yā tiraścī iti saptamī vāmadevya ṛcaḥ mahāvyāhṛtayaḥ prajāpate iti uttamā yaśaḥ aham bhavāmi iti yaśaskāmaḥ ādityam upatiṣṭheta pūrvāhṇa madhyandina aparāhṇeṣu prātarahṇasya iti saṃnāmayan sandhi velayoḥ upasthānam svastyayanam āditya nāvam iti udyantam tvā āditya anūdiyāsam iti pūrvāhṇe pratitiṣṭhantam tvā āditya anupratitiṣṭhāsam iti aparāhṇe ācita śata kāmaḥ ardha māsa vrataḥ tāmisra ādau vrīhi kāṃsa odanam brāhmaṇān bhojayitvā tasya kaṇān aparāsu sandhi velāsu pratyaṅ grāmāt niṣkramya catuṣpathe agnim upasamādhāya ādityam abhimukhaḥ juhuyāt bhalāya svāhā bhallāya svāhā iti etayā eva āvṛtā aparau tāmisrau tāmisra antareṣu brahmacārī syāt ā samāpanāt ā samāpanāt avasānaṃ joṣayeta samaṃ lomaśam avibhraṃśi prācya udīcyo vā yatrāpaḥ pravarteran akṣīriṇyo 'kaṇṭakā akaṭukā yatrauṣadhayaḥ syuḥ gaurapāṃsu brāhmaṇasya lohitapāṃsu kṣatriyasya kṛṣṇapāṃsu vaiśyasya sthirāghātam ekavarṇam aśuṣkam anūṣaram amaruparihitam akilinam darbhasaṃmitaṃ brahmavarcasakāmasya bṛhattṛṇair balakāmasya mṛdutṛṇaiḥ paśukāmasya śādāsaṃmitam maṇḍaladvīpasaṃmitaṃ vā yatra vā śvabhrāḥ svayaṃkhātāḥ sarvato 'bhimukhāḥ syuḥ tatrāvasānaṃ prāgdvāraṃ yaśaskāmo balakāmaḥ kurvīta udagdvāraṃ putrapaśukāmaḥ dakṣiṇādvāraṃ sarvakāmaḥ na pratyagdvāraṃ kurvīta anudvāraṃ ca gṛhadvāram yathā na saṃlokī syāt varjayet pūrvato 'śvatthaṃ plakṣaṃ dakṣiṇatas tathā nyagrodham aparād deśād uttarāccāpy udumbaram aśvatthād agnibhayaṃ ca plakṣād brūyāt pramāyukān nyagrodhācchastrasaṃpīḍām akṣyāmayam udumbarāt ādityadevato 'śvatthaḥ plakṣaś ca yamadevataḥ nyagrodho vāruṇo vṛkṣaḥ prājāpatya udumbaraḥ tān asvasthānasthān kurvīta etāś caiva devatā abhiyajet madhye 'gnim upasamādhāya kṛṣṇayā gavā yajeta ajena vā śvetena sapāyasābhyām pāyasena vā vasām ājyaṃ māṃsaṃ pāyasam iti saṃyūya aṣṭagṛhītaṃ gṛhītvā juhuyāt vāstoṣpata iti prathamā vāmadevyarcaḥ mahāvyāhṛtayaḥ prajāpataya ity uttamā hutvā daśa balīn haret pradakṣiṇaṃ pratidiśam avāntaradeśeṣu ānupūrvyeṇāvyatiharan indrāyeti purastād vāyava ity avāntaradeśe yamāyeti dakṣiṇataḥ pitṛbhya ity avāntaradeśe varuṇāyeti paścānmahārājāyety avāntaradeśe somāyety uttarato mahendrāyety avāntaradeśe vāsukaya ity adhastād ūrdhvaṃ namo brahmaṇa iti divi prācyūrdhvāvācībhyo 'harahar nityaprayogaḥ saṃvatsare saṃvatsare navayajñayor vā śravaṇāgrahāyaṇīkarmaṇor akṣatāñchiṣṭvā prāṅ vodaṅ vā grāmān niṣkramya catuṣpathe 'gnim upasamādhāya haye rāka ity ekaikayāñjalinā juhuyāt prāṅ utkramya vasuvana edhīty ūrdhvam udīkṣamāṇo devajanebhyaḥ tiryaṅṅ itarajanebhyo 'rvāṅ avekṣamāṇaḥ anapekṣamāṇaḥ juhuyād idam aham imaṃ viśvakarmāṇam iti vāsasas tantūn gor vālān evam itarebhyaḥ paṇyebhyaḥ pūrṇahomo yajanīyaprayogaḥ indrāmavadād iti ca yaśaskāmaḥ pūrvāṃ sahāyakāma uttarām puruṣādhipatyakāmo 'ṣṭarātram abhuktvā audumbarān sruvacamasedhmān upakalpayitvā prāṅ vodaṅ vā grāmān niṣkramya catuṣpathe 'gnim upasamādhāya ājyam ādityam abhimukho juhuyād annaṃ vā ekacchandasyaṃ śrīr vā eṣeti ca annasya ghṛtam eveti grāme tṛtīyām goṣṭhe paśukāmaḥ vidūyamāne cīvaram pratibhaye 'dhvani vastradaśānāṃ granthīn badhnīta upetya vasanavataḥ svāhākārāntābhiḥ sahāyānāṃ ca svastyayanam ācitasahasrakāmo 'kṣatasaktvāhutisahasraṃ juhuyāt paśukāmo vatsamithunayoḥ purīṣāhutisahasraṃ juhuyāt avimithunayoḥ kṣudrapaśukāmaḥ vṛttyavicchittikāmaḥ kambūkān sāyaṃ prātar juhuyāt kṣudhe svāhā kṣutpipāsābhyāṃ svāheti mā bhaiṣīr na mariṣyasīti viṣavatā daṣṭam adbhir abhyukṣan japet tura gopāyeti snātakaḥ saṃveśanavelāyāṃ vaiṇavaṃ daṇḍam upanidadhīta svastyayanārtham hatas te atriṇā kṛmir iti kṛmimantaṃ deśam adbhir abhyukṣan japet paśūnāṃ ceccikīrṣed aparāhṇe sītāloṣṭam āhṛtya vaihāyasaṃ nidadhyāt tasya pūrvāhṇe pāṃsubhiḥ parikiran japet uttaratas gām baddhvā upatiṣṭheran arhaṇā putraḥ uvāsa sā iti idam aham imām padyām virājam annādyāya adhitiṣṭhāmi iti pratitiṣṭhamānaḥ japet yatra enam arhayiṣyantaḥ syuḥ yadā vā arhayeyuḥ viṣṭara pādya arghya ācamanīya madhuparkān ekaikaśas tris tris vedayeran yāḥ oṣadhīḥ iti udañcam viṣṭaram āstīrya adhyupaviśet dvau ced pṛthak ṛgbhyām pādayoḥ anyam yatas devīḥ iti apaḥ prekṣeta savyam pādam avanenije iti savyam pādam prakṣālayet dakṣiṇam pādam avanenije iti dakṣiṇam pādam prakṣālayet pūrvam anyam aparam anyam iti ubhau śeṣeṇa annasya rāṣṭriḥ asi iti arghyam pratigṛhṇīyāt yaśaḥ asi iti ācamanīyam ācāmet yaśasaḥ yaśaḥ asi iti madhuparkam pratigṛhṇīyāt yaśasaḥ bhakṣaḥ asi mahasaḥ bhakṣaḥ asi śrī bhakṣaḥ asi śriyam mayi dhehi iti tris pibet tūṣṇīm caturtham bhūyaḥ eva abhipāya śeṣam brāhmaṇāya dadyāt ācānta udakāya gauḥ iti nāpitaḥ tris brūyāt muñca
