सोनेपुर मेला (हरिहर क्षेत्र)

The largest cattle fair in Asia, held at Sonepur on Kartika Purnima — the auspicious day of Gajendra Moksha (Vishnu's rescue of the elephant from the crocodile at this very confluence). Pilgrims bathe at the Gandak-Ganga confluence at Sonepur. Elephants, horses, birds, and all manner of animals were traditionally traded here. Month-long fair with cultural programs.
