The ancient Tai-Ahom ancestor propitiation ritual observed on January 31. Me means offer, Dam means departed ancestors, Phi means deities. Rice beer (laopani), meat and rice are offered to departed Ahom ancestors and deities. Celebrated especially by the Tai-Ahom community of Assam who ruled for 600 years (1228-1826) — the only dynasty in the world to defeat the Mughals 17 times in battle.
