Punjab's beloved winter solstice fire festival, celebrated on the eve of Makar Sankranti. Bonfires are lit in the evening; families and communities gather around the fire throwing puffed rice, popcorn, sesame, jaggery and rewri into the flames with the call 'Aadar aye dilather jaye!' New brides, newborn babies and newly circumcised boys are specially celebrated. Bhangra and Giddha dances follow.
