Kumaon and Garhwal's unique festival where seedlings (harela — green shoots) are sown in pots 10 days before Karka Sankranti and worshipped as Shiva-Parvati. On the day, the grown green shoots are placed on heads by elders with blessings. Symbolizes fertility, renewal and prosperity. Marks the onset of the monsoon crop season. Uniquely Uttarakhand — not found elsewhere.
