The most joyous of the three Bihus — Rongali means joyous in Assamese. Celebrated for 7 days at Mesha Sankranti (April 14-15) as the Assamese New Year. Cattle are bathed, given turmeric and gourd, and worshipped on Goru Bihu (Day 1). Manuh Bihu (Day 2) is for people — elders are gifted gamosas (towels). Bihu dance (fast-paced, with dhol and pepa horn) is performed in community gatherings called Bihu.
